Media Composer 2019.8 and Windows Remote Desktop

Is Media Composer 2019.8 incompatible with Windows Remote Desktop? I just tried over the weekend and every time Media Composer was launched while using Remote Desktop a Media Composer crash report pops up and a number of functions don't function. Can't AMA Link, can't Import - literally the Source Browser won't open. Video plays back - sometimes other times it doesn't. Media Composer 2018.x worked just fine with Remote Desktop. Opening Media Composer without Remote Desktop and everything is back to normal; no crash reports, can Link, can import, etc.

I don't need to access Media Composer via Remote Desktop every day but there are times, like this past weekend, when I absolutely need it.

XT3 files don t show video

Hello, i am testing Avim First to see how it handles XT3 files. It can only transcode, and that s fine, but the problem is that i onloy get audio. The video track is not shown. IIt is the same for both h264 and h265 clips

Do you know what to do?

UHD footage Quality in 1080 project

Im in a 1920 x 1080 project.  Avid is rasterizing the UHD to Hd, so when you use the 3d tool, and make 200% (which should match raster since source is 3840 x 2160), it looses its definition (Zooms into rasterized 1920 x 1080).  If you use framflex, the resolution is there, but you loose the edges when you zoom as well as you can only frameflex within the uhd boundaries.  I need to track this and move the backround matching the track, so frameflex wont work.  

AVID should make the 3d tool operation physycally do what frameflex does, keep the UHD source resolution, but enable you to move the image around, track etc wothout the limitations of frameflex.

Also, Frameflex does not work if you have color correction unless you click the match to raster setting.

The new September release of Media Composer is launching today, September 30, 2019 @ 12:00 Noon ET.

 

Status of Support Plan: The ability to launch Media Composer 2019.9 software is dependent on the status of your Upgrade and Support Plan on the date this software version is released 9/30/19. 

 

Location at Launch: Updates to Media Composer will be made available starting at 12:00 noon from Avid Link, MyAvid and the Avid Download Center (login and password required).  Might take a bit for all the components to update so please be patient.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3142. Using Transition Corner Display with ripple trim didn’t update the lower 3 frames correctly.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3158. Locked tracks became deselected when you changed export settings.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3122. If you exported an AAF for a second time, changing the name resulted in a crash.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3058. After performing an Insert Edit, returning to the Insert Edit Export option, the selected check boxes were not saved.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3168. The editing application would crash when opening a bin from Media Composer v8.4.5.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3144. OMFI did not rescan or relink properly.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3175. If Windows scaling was set to 150%, 3D Warp effects displayed as a negative image.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-2951. (Nitris DX) You might have received an “Assertion failed” error. when adjusting audio using the Audio Monitor Control button in the Timeline.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3021. You might have received an “Exception: CC Relationship Failed” error and the editor crashed when removing Color Correction.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3153. In some instances, video mixdowns did not display the correct timecode.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3189. When performing a Digital Cut with the Digital Cut Safe Mode enabled, effects were rendered, but the render progress windows stayed on the screen when the playback starts. This blocked access to any controls in the Digital Cut window.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-2819. Saving an Export Setting that included the Avid Media Processor option did not always retain the correct settings..

-  Bug Number: MCCET-2972. In some instances, bins did not save after placing resize effects on clips.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3178. The YCbCR 2020 HLG Color Space did not carry over into the project.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3194. In some instances, K did not stop playback when working with JKL playback.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3187. Selecting File > Open Bin did not always make the bin visible.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3109. You could not always save a Color Correction (current/previous/next) setting as a custom setting.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3221. Performing a Quick Find using the Bin filter field with enable/disable reference clips did not work properly.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-2676. Audio Meters in the Audio Mixer tool responded later than the audio meters in the Timeline.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3215. In some instances, if the Tool Palette was opened across two monitors, the editing application would crash.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-2759. (Interplay) The wrong file might have been transferred when performing a drag and drop from a bin to an FTP Browser.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3140. In some instances, the video might have looked skewed after applying a tracker effect.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-2854. Dragging and dropping a clip from AirSpeed Remote Console to a bin resulted in Media Composer closing.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3219. You might have received a “Current hardware is not compatible with this project's settings, and is being switched to inactive” error when connected to a Nitris DX or Mojo DX. The IO device should not have been disabled for supported resolutions. This has been fixed.

-  Bug Number: MCCET-3007. MXFOP1a exports from Avid Media Processor may have had a “Timecode of first frame” value of -1 if the start of sequence had an odd timecode.

custom project settings

Hello i am trying to use different project settings but just cannot change it

I create a new project and it automatically make it 1920x1080 29,97 fps

I can't find where to change it or to make a new default setting

..also can t change the raster settings

how do i do that?

 

p.s. i am using the latest versions..i was able to do that with previous..but now the project windows has changed ..don t know if this is the problem

HandBrake Settings for Avid Import

I can't seem to find or modify a preset that Avid likes. Nothing will link or import. I'm trying to convert 4K footage from an iPhone and I'm using the Apple 2160p60 4K HEVC Surround preset as a starting point. Anyone have any ideas? If you know of settings in the past that have worked could you please share them?

MC 2018.12 - Commit Multicam Edits crashes Avid

Hello,

if I choose Commit Multicam Edits with even simple short sequences, my Avid crashes immediately.

Problem seems to be audio group clips.

I can reproduce this on two machines with 10.13.6, a MacPro 5.1 and an iMacPro.

Even short audio only sequences are crashing. No EQs, Plugins, Transitions, plain audio, some of them are group clips.

 

Can somebody confirm this?

groupclip audio select

i have a question about selection of audio tracks in group clips.  in old versions of media composer, once loading a group clip into the source monitor, there was an option to select witch audio tracks you want to have in the time line by pressing the little group icon in the upper left corner in the source monitor.  however in the new MC 2019 this button do nothing.  the reason i need this is for example when i have a group clip of two sources (cameras) and the audio recorded in an external recorder (zoom), now i want the audio from the zoom to be in track 1 & 2 and the audio from camera 1 to be in track 3&4 and the audio from camera 2 in tracks 5&6.

Media Composer 2019.9 Install Problem

I've downloaded the new version of Media Composer.  Whenever I double click the .dmg file, a new finder window pops up with icons such as: "Additional Files, Documentation, Install Media Composer, Uninstall Media Composer." However Finder freezes and does not let you double click "Install Media Composer."  If I relaunch Finder and select the mounted dmg volume "Media Composer 19.9.0.53409" in the finder side bar I am able to double click "Install Media Composer," however the Installer freezes and doesn't launch.  I have the Installer icon in the dock popping up, but no window appears.

I've rebooted and tried this several times.  Same problem.  I'm on OS X 10.14.6 and a trashcan mac.

 

Any ideas?

Audio playback issue (MC 2018.12.1)

Hi all.

I often run into this serious audio playback problem within my MC setup, and although I do remember a time when I didnt experience this issue on my machine, its been persistent going back several MC versions, possible all of the 2018.x point releases.

You can hear it clearly on the recording below, a wildtrack of the line 'Right, I'm off to bed'.

It sounds as if my audio playback gets caught in a feedback loop of some kind - the length of which correlates to the playback buffer, as demonstrated.

Now, generally it doesn't happen on a simple source side clip as per the demo - I tend to run into this issue when I'm playing back sequences with several layers of audio, video and effects... the more processor-heavy the sequence, the more stubborn that glitch becomes. I believe the feedback in this demo is only triggered as Im running screen capture software which is taking up CPU, thus leaving less for MC to use, but at least its useful to show you all what I'm often dealing with... obviously this can be a really frustrating when Im working in large sequences and trying to audition my audio edits!

I believe Im running a qualified setup - HP ZBook Studio G3, currently running 2018.12.1.

I also have a TB3 audio interface in the chain as my output, but it makes no difference whether Im using periphals or just the internal soundcard.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Insert edit export - a great feature

Currently there is no send to playback at 59.94P, so we have to file export to scan folder to get files to EVS for playout.

Advantage to this workflow was that we could use, for the first time in anger, ‘insert edit export’. This was great.

We had to fix our highlights show - 3 little paints in a 12 minute segment. Drop ins take seconds, rather than an 8 minute export. 

Caveats:

Insert edit export always defaults to export all tracks - you can modify in options to 'selected tracks' but beware:

a. clicking OK in this option menu goes straight to exporting

b. the 'selected' video tracks are exported as-is (i.e. select one video track and that is effectively soloed, tracks below are not output)

c. Exported audio appears to *only* be direct out (limited to number of tracks in file being inserted to). So my accidental audio insert to stereo master was just fx (timeline tracks 1&2) without the commentary (timeline track 3). This would be ok in 5.1/5.1.4 workflow as we’d have had to do a multiple mixdown->direct out export for original file.

d. You have to choose ‘selected tracks’ every time, it always defaults to all tracks

 

Feature requests:

More visual indication on what is going on with export (what tracks are going to be inserted, what audio configuration is being used).

Remove ‘use marks’ from options menu as it is redundant 

OK in options menu should   labelled ‘export’

Cancel in options menu shouldn’t cancel whole export

Setting to always export using selected tracks

Selected video shouldn’t solo, should be all tracks below

Should be an option to insert edit export as mono/stereo/direct etc

Should be an export option (also for straight file export) for audio to be exported ‘as monitored’

is there a way to mute a dissolve but keep media duration

I did a few searches, but couldn't find anything that described how to do what I'm working on, so hopefully, it's possible.

A different editor is working on a piece and is cutting low rez jpeg files onto a timeline with dissolves in and out of them to other video clips. Is there a way to mute the dissolves on the in and out of a segment, so I can apply a Pan & Zoom and see the beginning and end of the clip in place? I know I can set keyframes inside the dissolve, then alt drag them back to the head and tail of the clip, but it's been more trial and error than I'm hoping is required. I read someone saying they do all the P&Z on a separate timeline and do a video mixdown, but while that's viable, it's harder to keep everything tracked as the project is fairly fluid and evolving

Is it not possible to map buttons to the right of sound monitor?

MC 8.44

 

On older versions I used to map buttons to the right of the sound monitor in the source-record and other workspaces.

Now, when I try to map buttons to the right of the sound monitor with command-palette, I cant.

That means a lot of unused space, very inconvenient.

Am I doing something wrong or is it really not possible to put buttons there? Why?

Cannot delete master clips in bin

I am having issues deleting master clips in bins. The clips and bins are not locked. I am able to delete bins and folders in the bin container so it isn't the keyboard.

This doesn't seem to be a known issue as it is not in the known issues 2019.8.pdf

Any suggestions?

Old Slow machine - Open GL emulation libraries

Hi,

I have an old laptop with a graphics card that only supports OGL 1.2.  It's a system that will only be used by an intern to pull clips from stock footage libraries, so I don't need anything robust.  When I launch MC First, I get an error, ".... make sure the angle open gl es 2.0 emulation libraries ... are available in the application executable's directory or in a location listed in PATH" Are these libraries that I have to download separately and install?

Linking media from Premiere Pro to Avid without creating new media

I was so lucky to convince a producer, that Avid is better than...the other.

AAF import of sequence, fine. Media is mostly MOVS, AMA-linked (or equivalent in PP), plus a little PP native media.

Batch re-import i MC creates MXF-media, a tedious process in this project with many hours of material.

 

Is there any way to relink / batch import or other route to link to original MOVS instead?

Mapping to number pad

Does anyone know if there is any reason why we can't map to the number pad or F14-19?

Could Avid do it if they wanted? Or is there something in the OS the makes it impossible?

No playback in source and record monitors

A couple hours into every edit session, my source and record monitors turn black.  The audio plays fine, but the video disappears.  I then have to exit and re-launch Avid.  If I were on a PC, I would suspect an issue with QuickTime or the video driver, but my system is a fairly powerful iMac running the latest OS.

MC 2019 Interface Issues

Ive been looking around many of the posts regarding workspaces/bins and project settings but I cant find anything specific to the new interface.

I really want to make this new software work, but its proving to be a real problem.

Weve just completed the Burghley Horse Trials for the BBC and we ran with 2 x MC 2018 and 2 x MC 2019.

None of the editors could work with 2019 - its to do with the way the bins are managed and where some of the menus are. For instance wheres the little pop out menu that you used to be able to access from the main viewer menu?

Also several times with 2019 the editor 'lost' the project menu so did not know which project he was working in (we run multiple projects - around 8 to make our workflow easier). It seems the only way was to exit Avid and restart - however this then reset all the bin workspaces again.

Weve just gone back to 2018.12.7 which works just the way it is supposed to.

I am very sorry Avid, but the new interface does not seem to have been designed with professional editors in mind.

We were very excited to think there would be a new version a few months ago but it does not feel as though its been properly thought through or tested.

I'd really like to be proved wrong on this - anyone else havng problems?
