I wonder if someone could confirm this bug for me, so I know I don't have a hardware issue.
One of the places I work recently upgraded to Media Composer 2018.12.7
I usually map the "Zoom into Region" command to the Mouse Button 3 (pushing down the scrollwheel). It seems in this version of MC, that no longer works. I can map it there okay in the Mouse Settings, but it does not function. Other commands work fine on the same button.

I am suddenly unable to open Media Composer First. I am logged into Avid Link but everytime I try to open Media Composer it says I am not logged in and will not open.
Any help would be much appreciated half way through a project and panicing slightly!

Windows 7 is going EOL mid January 2010. PC experts recommend to install the latest update before this happens.
Marianna once wrote "Rule of thumb.... always have the automatic updates turned off so you dont get hit with something you dont want. I am of the belief that if it "works" why change it". That's what I did for about the last 2 years.
Should I still stick to it? (For working with MC I want to stay with Windows 7.)

Media Composer | Distributed Processing

Eligiendo Segment Modes
Se han realizado cambios en el Timeline que cambian la forma en que seleccionas Segment Modes y Trim.
En lugar de elegir los diferentes modos desde el Smart Tool, estas opciones ahora se han movido a botones seleccionables en la barra de herramientas de la línea de tiempo.

• Si seleccionas solo la flecha roja, el botón de modo de segmento está configurado en Lift/Overwrite, que reemplazará una porción de la secuencia con el material de origen seleccionado.
• Si seleccionas solo la flecha amarilla, el botón de modo de segmento se establece en Extract/Splice-in, en el que se inserta el material de origen marcado en la secuencia sin reemplazar el material que ya se encuentra en la misma.
• Si seleccionas ambas flechas, la edición en modo segmento variará según el la región en el Timeline que actives. Por ejemplo, si colocas el cursor en la parte superior del segmento en la Línea de tiempo, estarás en modo Lift/Overwrite y si colocas el cursor en la parte inferior estará en modo Lift/Overwrite.
• También puede hacer ALT + Clic en los botones del modo Segmento para recorrer las distintas opciones ciclicamente.
Seleccionando tipos de Trim
Puedes seleccionar el modo Trim haciendo clic en el botón Tipo de Trim.

• Si seleccionas solo el rodillo rojo, el modo de Trim se establece en Overwrite trim, que realiza un Trim de un solo lado de la edición y agrega negro para completar la duración de los frames recortados.
• Si seleccionas solo el rodillo amarillo, el modo de Trim se establece en Ripple trim, que realiza un Trim de un solo lado de la edición sin bloqueo de sincronización y mantiene la duración de todos los demás clips.
• Si seleccionas ambos rodillos, el tipo de Trim va a depender de la posición del cursor dentro del segmento en el timeline que actives. Por ejemplo, si colocas el cursor en la parte superior del segmento, entrarás en el modo Overwrite trim y si coloca el cursor en la parte inferior del segmento, estará en el modo Ripple trim.

Cambios en Digital Audio Scrub
Hay un nuevo ícono/botón en la pestaña Play del Command Palette que reemplaza a la tecla CAPS lock (bloqueo de MAYÚSCULAS) para la habilitar el digital audio scrub.
Usa el nuevo botón Digital Audio Scrub en lugar de CAPS lock. Asigna este botón a una tecla de tu teclado o un botón en en el Timeline o Composer.

Workspace Toolbar
Media Composer proporciona una barra de herramientas de Espacios de trabajo de fácil acceso en el lado derecho de la interfaz de usuario. I face a very annoying issue, both on PC and Mac... First blamed my personnal computer but it's not guilty.
Today, I'm unable to start MC First as I get a Log in error every time... On several computers, with several Avid Master Accounts (all having a MCF System ID enabled).
Tried to un/reinstall the whole Avid suite, but obviously it's not the issue.
I can see that MCF no longer appears in Avid Link in the Products section... So is there something going wrong with your servers?
PS : MOST annoying fact: regular MC (Ultimate) runs fine... But I can't work with my personal project because it was created with MCF.
Before I believe Avid's version as to why some systems crashed I would like to here Google's response. So far all I can find are posts from Avid saying "...not our fault..." . Can anyone point me to a staement put out by Google ? It seems the story is not complete for me yet. Google must do some sort of investigation into stuff like this. Still very happy using MC 7 on my iMac.

I used to own a Contour Shuttle over a decade ago but I found the wheel did NOT scrub the picture and audio smoothly like I wanted/expected. (I want the fluidity of a Steenbeck) So I gave it away.
But I've noticed it has become popular again.
So I'm wondering if the interface with the MC has improved.
How does it handle for others?

I have an old laptop with a graphics card that only supports OGL 1.2. It's a system that will only be used by an intern to pull clips from stock footage libraries, so I don't need anything robust. When I launch MC First, I get an error, ".... make sure the angle open gl es 2.0 emulation libraries ... are available in the application executable's directory or in a location listed in PATH" Are these libraries that I have to download separately and install?

Using insert edit feature extensively (http://community.avid.com/forums/t/197987.aspx)
Having linked to the file to check the insert, I want avid to release it to allow the file to be moved to a scan folder for air.
*sometimes* deleting the master clip and/or clearing source monitor is enough; but often I have to quit avid altogether.
Anyone know any other voodoo to force Avid to release its grip on a linked file?
Bit of a odd one Avid has started trying to load the file info and creates a duplicate clip whenever i put a edit in.
I think this is a known bug but was wondering if any of you had manged to solve it. Fyi its really anoying
I'm using some of the iZotope plugins on my audio tracks and finding that the response of the timeline slows down to the point that I can't use them while editing. So I edit without them and then apply them for playback or output or mixdown.
I have alot of memory and a new i9 processor in my iMac. I know that there's a lot of instant processing happening, so it's not especially surprising, but I wonder if there are settings in Avid or with my computer that might help improve this performance?

So I went to use the new 2019 release, and can't find my edit buttons in the center between the source and record monitors.
Do I need to reconfigure my composer buttons and add them (splice, replace, overwrite) if I wish to use them now? Obviously there are the keyboard shortcuts, but I find that I do use the mouse about 50% of the time....

Upgraded my workstation, almost all new parts. Had to reinstall Avid, which went fine after -deactivating licesne and then reactivating it. Changed Computer name on Avid.com product profile to new one.
But Sympony keeps telling me "INVALID SYSTEM ID" on Avid link and won't show up when avid is launched.
I do have a lot of color work to get done, it owuld be great to get this figured out ina timeley manner.

Dongle Info (Mac Only): If you have a dongle, the dongle Sentinel driver installer is no longer automatically installed when you install the editing application. The driver is now located in the Avid_Utilities folder. If you have a dongle, manually install the driver from this location (/Applications/Utilities/Avid_Utilities/Sentinel_Driver).
Status of Support Plan: The ability to launch Media Composer software is dependent on the status of your Upgrade and Support Plan on the date this software version is released. Media Composer 2019.8 released on August 30, 2019.
Location at Launch: Updates to Media Composer will be released at the same time and will be made available from Avid Link, MyAvid and the Avid Download Center (login and password required).

Windows - If you are installing the editing application and you have a previous version of the editor on your system, go to the Control Panel and manually uninstall the editing application before you try and install v2019.7. Limitations Media Composer 2019.8: Listed below are the known limitations in v2019.8.
1. Bug Number: MCCET-11796. Larger than 10 bit DPX files might fail to link correctly.
o Workaround: Go to File > Settings and click the User tab. In the Link Settings, click the Link
Options tab and make sure Alpha Channel is set to Ignore.
2. Bug Number: MCCET-3110. When in Text View, you no longer have the option in the Bin
Window to columns during scrolling left and right.
3. Bug Number: MCDEV-11430. Media Tool ignores the “Current project” filtering option and
lists media files that are not associated with the current project.
4. Bug Number: . If you launch a project and receive an “Enable 3rd Party Emulation” warning,
even if you select Enable in the warning dialog, you should also perform the following: Select
File > Settings and click the Project tab. Click General Settings and select “Enable Bin Sharing
on 3rd party storage emulating Avid NEXIS/ISIS.”
5. Bug Number: MCDEV-11197. In some instances, the Interleave option might not appear in the
Export As dialog box. If you are performing an Export using the Avid Media Processor, the
Interleave option should appear when you choose Stereo, 5:1, or 7.1 Audio.
Workaround: If it does not appear, briefly toggle back to the Mono setting, then toggle to
Stereo Mix once again. Doing so should reveal the Interleave option.
6. Bug Number: MCDEV-8641. (AMD Graphics). Systems with AMD graphics cards might
display tearing when performing Full Screen playback.
7. Bug Number: MCDEV-9460. Windows 7 systems with Nvidia Maxwell or Nvidia Pascal cards
might experience playback issues that could result in “Play Consumer timeout” errors.
Workaround: Select “Disable GPU Effects” in the Render Settings dialog box.
8. Bug Number: MCDEV-9269. (Media Composer | Cloud) After performing a remote download
operation on a sequence containing AVC-I 100 remote media, the downloaded media appears as
XAVC-I 100.
Workaround: Download the entire master clips.

How to obtain the Media Composer 2019.8 Update:
1. Customers who have an active support and upgrade plan will be notified of the availability of the 2019.6 via Avid Link and it will be available via Link, MyAvid and the Download Center.
2. New perpetual and subscription Licenses purchased on or after Friday, August 30th, 2019 will also receive 2019.8.
One of my students notified me that it is not possible to activate Media Composer | First.
Launching Media Composer prompts you Login to Avid Link, in Avid link there is however no option to insert Serial Number for MC | First.
Login in to Avid link does not solve the issue, although a Avid First serial is present in the Avid Account.
I have checked this for myself, and indeed... It is impossible to activate First in the Avid Link version 2019.8.
While Media Composer keeps saying 'login to Avid Link and relaunch Media Composer | First', there is no option to add the First serial-number in Avid link.
Can anyone help us?

Whenever i try to use an alt command like Fillsorted in a bin...it just sits there. Nothing happens.
I can get it move with the dropdown command...that shows that Alt and S should do the same thing.
I set up my keyboard in Windows 10 to use the alt keys when it can but no change.
any advice? it sure helps to be able to use shortcuts from the keyboard
In my university, we have in our first year, 90 students each with their own network login. We have folders full of teaching materials (Quicktimes, camera card copies, graphics etc etc). If we have linked media management enabled in the Link settings, once one logged in computer user has accessed a folder full of files, edited, quit and logged out, then another user who logs in cannot access those files. I think it is a folder permissions issue, even though the AMA metadata lives in the Shared Users folder (we are on Macs). None of us have admin rights (the IT dept saw to that).
A few years ago we could turn off management with a console command, then the option appeared in the Link settings. That has been good for a few years and students could use the same media for editing practice, group after group.
Now, this academic year, nothing works. Management on, Management off … once one user has accessed a folder of files, no other user can get them into a bin via the Source Browser. This is killing us. What sometimes works is Option+dragging to a bin but I need to teach the use of the Source Browser. Has something changed in Avid (MC 2018.12.6) or in our network accounts (suppose I'll need to ask the IT department)
There was a time when any user with or without admin rights could delete )I think) the AMA Metadata subfolder, clearing up the issue but now we can’t. Could the root of this problem be a failure to make the first launch of Media Composer be by an administrate? Would this have set folder permissions?
In the screenshot (can't add, will do so later), the user rshufflebottom (me) has R/W access to the AMA Metadata folder but others read-only - is this why no other user can access files via the Source Browser? I was the person who ran the tests on this Mac so I got in first, so to speak. Help needed.
