Please fix Frameflex

Since David Colantuoni has announced that Avid are holding off releasing the shiny new MC version, here’s something that needs to be fixed. Frameflex is good a dealing with horizontal images (video or graphics) but often fails with vertical images. I have vertical pictures from at least four digital still cameras that are always interpreted as horizontal. I suspect that it is a metadata issue as opening these images in pretty much any graphics program (even Apple Preview or Windows Paint) and simply resaving with no changes, creates files that are interpreted correctly. The position is the same with vertical mobile phone videos (I know, hold the thing the other way round but many folk don’t). There is no combination of rotation and size that will fix this in Frameflex. All I want is a vertical image, pillarboxed, that I could zoom into if needed. A 3D Warp can help but why do we need this? Semi-rant over. Images available for testing on request.

Disembedded audio from BM SDI-to-HDMI converter extremely loud?

Is anyone familiar with the Blackmagic Mini Converter SDI-to-HDMI and using disembedded analog audio from it? I am currently in an editing suite where the signal path is...

 

MacPro (2013) -> BM UltraStudio Express ->

via SDI (embedded audio) -> BM SDI-to-HDMI converter ->

via HDMI (embedded audio) to TV ->

via unbalanced audio out from TV -> Mixer

 

Instead of the unbalanced audio (from TV to mixer) I would like to utilize the balanced audio outputs of the SDI-to-HDMI converter. So I connected the converter to the mixer, using TRS-jack <-> XLR cables. The audio now finds its way to the mixer but with an apparently very high volume. Mixer faders are just a little bit above nothing and the signal already starts clipping. Input gain on the mixer is set to minimum and my avid mix is far from being too loud. Am I overseeing an option to reduce the volume of the SDI-embedded audio before it arrives at the mixer?

XT3 files don t show video

Hello, i am testing Avim First to see how it handles XT3 files. It can only transcode, and that s fine, but the problem is that i onloy get audio. The video track is not shown. IIt is the same for both h264 and h265 clips

Do you know what to do?

Limitations of payloads' size for POST requests via upstream

Hi All,

we are having problems invoking our custom service connected to the cloud ux bus (v2019.6) with bigger payloads. We are using standard http.post calls from the cloudux ui with an application/json content. If we post a request with payload containing around 30 000+ chars, then the request recevies timeout from upstrem. 

 

Is there really a limitation on the payload size or the problem is elsewhere?

How do people use MC2019 with dual monitors / seeing desktop at same time?

Hi all,

im a long time user and have just spent some time with the new version (2019.7). I use dual monitors and need to see the desktop while using avid (like 2018). If the new way forces us to completely cover the desktop, how do people switch back and forth between avid and desktop, and other applications?

Drag-and-Drop Delay in MC 2018.12.7 on Windows

I am experiencing a delay dragging between interface windows in Media Composer 2018.12.7 on Windows 7 and 10.

The "pointing finger" drag cursor doesn't turn into the "arrow with a plus sign" drop cursor for several seconds, and only after one wiggles the mouse. Otherwise, you cannot drop the item while the cursor is still the "pointing finger."

This happens when dragging items between bins, when dragging bins into folders in the project window, and when dragging clips to/from the composer window.

Creating a new user setting initially solved this. I had created new users on multiple machines, and the bad behavior eventually creeped-back to multiple machines.

I figured out that this would start happening after Exporting. I had recently started using the Avid Media Processor regularly.

I just discovered that in a brand new user setting, I can cause this behavior by changing the untitled default Export setting use the Avid Media Processor, and performing an Export.

When the Avid Media Processor is the selected Export method, I get the cursor-change delay when dragging between windows. When I switch the active Export setting to QuickTime, there is no delay dragging-and-dropping items between bins or the composer monitor.

I have not yet determined if I can keep Avid Media Processor export settings stored in user settings, and just keep them inactive when I do not need them.

Dongle Not Working (Retina 5k, 27inch, 2017)

I was given a dongle by my producer. Its a version 8.0 and works well in his 2018 MacBook pro runing mc 8.9.1, it also runs in 2 of my laptops runing mc 2019.8, one of my macbook pros is 2015 15inch the other one is mid 2012 13inch.

The problem is with the iMac Retina 5k, 27 inch, 2017(iMac18,3), where i work the most, it doesnt recognize the dongle, has if it wasn´t plugged.

I have tried installing multiple versions of MC, always making sure everything has been removed throught the manual uninstall procedure given here in the avid community. The last version installed is 2019.8, installing the Sentinel System Driver pkg manually from the Avid Utilities folder...and still not working.

The only diferent thing I can think of is that this iMac was runing an MC Ultimate 30 day trial version, it was also removed from the computer has mentioned before.

I hope some one can guide me to solve this problem.

UI font problems, mixed and unpredictable

Running Avid MC 19.7 on a PC. The UI pops up random fonts upon launch and mixed fonts depending on the UI window. You never know what font you're going to get when you open MC. Sometimes it's completely unreadable font and the software needs to be restarted. I've spoken with support about that matter. They were not helpful, quite rude for a paid support service and did not resolve the matter. Anyone having this issue and work arounds to fix this issue?

I imported some images that were shot in portrait mode but comes into the project landscape. How can I correct this or how do I rotate them back to portriat.?

Using the Broadcast Notification API in a CloudUX Plug-in

I'm looking for some advice on using the Broadcast Notification API in a plug-in to receive status updates posted from my platform service; thus avoiding the need to poll the service for the updates. I have added the functionality described in http://developer.avid.com/mcux_ui_plugin/clux-api/notifications/avid-broadcast-notification.html to my code and added the dependency in package.json.

If I try subscribing to my platform services channel (e.g. tv2.media.status.service) then it fails with an error saying "Client not allowed to subscribe. Invalid channel name". Can you suggest how to resolve this? Posting and receiving within the platform service works fine as does posting and receiving between my different platform services.

What is perhaps strange is that if I use the code from the API Doc verbatim and retain the example channel name "some.bridge" then the subscription succeeds, however if I try posting to that channel I don't receive any messages.

A secondary issue concerns compiling the plug-in. The docs tell you to define avid-broadcast-notification as an external dependency, however this doesn't appear to work with the VSCode App Creator Tool as it comes up with Module Not Found errors which I can't find a way to suppress. I have resolved the issue temporarily by including a downloaded copy of avid-broadcast-notification.js and turning off the rules checking as that does not like the file.

Video disappears in composer window

Hi, I'm quite new to 2019 version so I haven't figured everything out and need some help that I can't find anywhere.

When I drag a clip down to the timeline from composer, the  video disapears and I can only hear the sound. Why? The only way tp get it back is to switch from EDIT to COLOR mode adn then return to EDIT again.

It's probably the easisest thing but just as frustrating.

DNxHD 90 files linked as Avid DNx Codec rather than DNxHD 90

I have a number of 1080p/59.94 files recorded during one session on a Blackmagic Mini as DNxHD 90.  Some link as "DVxHD 90 (HD1080p)" and others as "Avid DNx Codec", both using the QuickTime plug-in.  The DNxHD 90 linked files play back smoothly while the Avid DNx identified files stutter. 

Why are they not all seen as one or the other.  Can I change the designation of the link?

I'm using a Windows 7 PC running MC2018.10.

Early AAF creation in AMT3

Hello,

As for now, we retrieve the AAF file created by AMT3 at the end of the generation of our MXF targets. Two questions:

1) Can we configure the AMT3 to create this AAF file sooner (i.e. at the beginning of target creation)? The goal here is to manage EWC (edit while capture) workflows.

2) How to retrieve the AAF content? Previously in AMT2, there was a handy function GetUpdatedAaf, which could be called anytime. Is there any equivalent in AMT3?

Background Service Failing

Hi All,

Just trying Ingesting and Transcoding using BG Service works direct but in the queue it is failing with this error.

Exception:BG_UniSink instance is not compatible with BG_CompositeSink instance.

Any ideas....Harry

Same as source export looks darker and has more contrast

MC 8.4

When I export the seqence I rendered in DNxHD120 .mov same as source it looks darker and has more contrast than in the MC timeline, when I open the exported sequence in Sorensen Squeeze - although I chose scale from legal to full.

Can this be fixed or do I need to brighten everything?

Unfortuantely Sorensen doesn´t find QT Ref.

AMT3: Specifying filenames for MXF video/audio files

Is there any way from the SDK to control the names of the individual MXF files created?  By default naming is something like AudioFileA0180E5FA48.mxf, AudioFileA0280E5FA49.mxf, etc
