Terrible Multicam performance (MC 2019)

I don't work with multicam in Media Composer very often, but the last few times it has always worked pretty well performance-wise. With my current project however I'm having huge performance problems when working with multicams. I'm using 1080 DNxHR LB proxies. The last time I could playback a nine-split without any problems.
This time I cannot even playback a quad-split. Has anyone else performance problems with multicam in MC 2019? Any idea why this is happening?
With Premiere and Resolve I can playback a nine-split without a single dropped frame (using the same media as Media Composer). Perfectly smooth playback.

To be honest, Media Composer has become a real pain to work with. I'm spending more time dealing with weird bugs, unintuitive workflows and bad performance than actual editing.

Background Service Failing

Hi All,

Just trying Ingesting and Transcoding using BG Service works direct but in the queue it is failing with this error.

Exception:BG_UniSink instance is not compatible with BG_CompositeSink instance.

Any ideas....Harry

How easy is it to switch to other computer and activate MC there?

MC 8.44

Do I just deactivate on active computer in MC special menue and activate on new system? 

Do I only have to enter the activation code in the application Manager under licensing on the other computer (online of course)?

I didnt update Avids app-manager for some time and dont want any trouble switching to another computer, because I am in the middle of a project.

Is it as easy and without any risks as discribed above?

EDL for Music Cue Sheets

We're on 2018.12.7 and have found that using the List Tool to generate an EDL is not exporting all the music cues that are in the sequence. I've attached a screenshot of an example - a music cue that was used, back to back, five different times but with add edits and fades. The exported EDL (using CMX3600) did not include everything after the first cue. It's like the fade caused it to stop recognizing the rest of the cues. In addition, we're finding that all EDLs that Avid is creating is leaving out music and are not complete.

To test, I copied my sequence and removed all the fades. This version Music Cue Sheet included those other cues. 

My question is, is this a bug in Avid? What settings do you all use to spit out EDL to submit Music Cue Sheets to the networks?

Avid not seeing BRAW TC from source

I am trying to send my BRAW avid sequence via aff to Resolve and noticed that every single clip I used has a starting time code of 00:00:00:00 and not the TC imbedded on the original clips. Obviously this does not allow me to do this roundtrip since no clips match the original TC so the sequence clips come up as offline on Resolve.  Any insights?

License not working with dongle in iMac 5k,27,2017

I was given a dongle by my producer. Its a version 8.0 and works well in his 2018 MacBook pro runing mc 8.9.1, it also runs in 2 of my laptops runing mc 2019.8, one of my macbook pros is 2015 15inch the other one is mid 2012 13inch.

The problem is with the iMac Retina 5k, 27 inch, 2017(iMac18,3), where i work the most, it doesnt recognize the dongle, has if it wasn´t plugged.

 

I have tried installing multiple versions of MC, always making sure everything has been removed throught the manual uninstall procedure given here in the avid community. The last version installed is 2019.8, installing the Sentinel System Driver pkg manually from the Avid Utilities folder...and still not working.

The only diferent thing I can think of is that this iMac was runing an MC Ultimate 30 day trial version, it was also removed from the computer has mentioned before.

I hope some one can guide me to solve this problem.

Timecode Burn-In tool not reading source time

I've used the timecode burn-in tool for many years as I often take productions to audio post after cutting the video.  I am using version 2018.12.3 and now when I create a burn-in to read source timecode on just about any track, it displays the string "No Such Track."  In particular, I am trying to read the source timecode on A1 (which is most definitely present)  

This appears to be a bug created in this version.  If I open the same sequence in an older version (8.2.2), it reads the source timecode just fine.  Anyone else experiencing this or able to re-create it?  How does one report a bug to Avid?

effect question

Anyone know a easy way to do in MC with the paint effect? Ive tried to use the paint effect but it is a bit frustatiing as each line doesn't stay on for the one frame. You have to set the path and with this many strokes on every frame that is a bit tedious. I may be missing something so thats why I decided to ask.

Please Help: Avid Adrenaline HD Output Confusion

Hi Editors:

                I have run into a head scratcher of a problem with my Adrenaline, which I can't locate any information on. Perhaps someone who is more familiar with the Adrenaline than I can explain what's going wrong. The pluggin HD DNxCell board has one HD-SDI input and 2 HD-SDI outputs, along with a DVI output for display on a standard flat screen computer monitor, as well as a component output for analogue HD signal. I want to use my 26 inch DVI computer monitor as a client monitor in my setup.

                However, when I boot up my system and open up my Media Composer interface, the DVI flat screen monitor goes blank and only my small 9 inch HD-SDI Sony broadcast monitor shows the timeline output. (??) I opened my Video Output tool, but only see a setting for video output via the HD-SDI output. (??) Shouldn't there be other video output choices showing ? When I first turn on my Adrenaline I can see the Adrenaline splash screen very clearly on both the the DVI output to flat screen monitor, as well as to my HD-SDI output on my 9 inch monitor. This status quickly changes once I open my MC interface to output only on my 9 inch HD-SDI monitor.

                What am I missing here ? I really can't figure this out.

Windows Updates

Hi 

How do we know which windows update we should be on - I am on version 1803 - should we run all the updates or not 

MC 2019.8 constantly crashes - I have 32Gb memory, run a memory test all clear 

My Nvidia P1000 card is at version431.02 as recommended

I have the latest BM desktop video version for intensity pro card

Yet I get constant freezes in MC - really annoying - so should I update windows to latest updates or not?

Any other suggestios would be greatly appreciated

Sequence Fails to Open

iMac late 2014
32GB RAM
High Sierra
MC 8.5.3

I am suddenly unable to open a sequence created on Monday,on my work PC system.

I brought media and project home.
Today, opening it on my home system causes Avid to crash.
Re-indexed media, duplicated sequence, deleted MC State, then created new project
to import and open it. No go, each time.

I am out of the typical approaches, any suggestions?

Can't delete Precomputes

This is quite a long post so bear with me.

I have 2 sequences, in the same project. I do a small edit in the "Sync" sequence and then export it with DNxHD and call it "Verge". Then I went to the "Cut" sequence and AMA-Link the "Verge" file I just exported and put it inside the sequnce.

Then I realise my export wasn't as I wanted, so I went back to the "Sync" sequence and did some changes and then went again to export it by replacing the previous "Verge" file. The duration is a bit different so the other "Cut" sequence starts to freak out because it understands that file has changed.

I deleted the clip from inside the "Cut" sequence. I also deleted the previous AMA-Link to the "Verge" file and did again the AMA-Link with the new file (same filename). Tried to put it again inside the "Cut" sequence.

Then I started getting the error "Exception: Failed to get the sample size from the AMA Plug-in".

I realised that I shouldn't replace the previous "Verge" file and should instead give it a new name so it MC doesn't freak out. So I just removed the "Verge" file from the Bin and then re-exported that file as "Verge v2". But still the "Cut" sequence is looking for the old file that I deleted.

So I finally opened the Media Tool and searched for all types and there it was. I could see the "Verge" filename inside precomputes. So I tried to delete the "Verge" precompute so it stopped searching for it. Although it allows me to click and delete it, it just doesn't! I still can see the "Verge" precompute in the media tool.

 

Any ideas what I can do? I get the "Exception: Failed to get the sample size from the AMA Plug-in" and can't work in the "Cut" sequence at all.

How to release AMA linked file from Avid?

Using insert edit feature extensively (http://community.avid.com/forums/t/197987.aspx)

Having linked to the file to check the insert, I want avid to release it to allow the file to be moved to a scan folder for air.

*sometimes* deleting the master clip and/or clearing source monitor is enough; but often I have to quit avid altogether.

Anyone know any other voodoo to force Avid to release its grip on a linked file?

Avid Link 2019.8 Inoperative

ORIGINAL SYMPTOM:

As seems customary with Application Manager / Avid Link, I have to enter credentials in "Profile" pane every day or two.  (Would be nic if there was a "keep me logged in" or "remember my credentials" option, but that is another issue.)  After the update to 2019.8, I would enter credentials, and it would "think" for about 30 mins before posting "Unexplained Error" alert.

After getting this several days running I gave up and tried a "repair" install (WIndows CP Programs and Features).  After a reboot I go to the "Profile" pane and I get the "Initializing" wheeley thing which I left running for almost 10 hours before I gave up and terminated it.

Then I uninstalled AVID Link (Programs and features), rebooted, re-installed from a fresh Avid Link download.  Same problem.  It is stuck at "Initializing".

I seem to remember this was a problem once before and there was some file that could be deleted that allowed it to run correctly?  Or is that one of those "Senior Reveries"?

Alt underline not working in Bins

Whenever i try to use an alt command like Fillsorted in a bin...it just sits there.  Nothing happens.

 

I can get it move with the dropdown command...that shows that Alt and S should do the same thing.

 

I set up my keyboard in Windows 10 to use the alt keys when it can but no change.

 

any advice?  it sure helps to be able to use shortcuts from the keyboard

[BUG] FrameFlex Quality Issues with MC 2018.12.7 - 2019.8

Has anyone else experienced FrameFlex quality issues with the lastest MC 2019 releases?
FrameFlex has never produced stellar results downscaling UHD to HD, but with the recent versions it looks even worse than ever before. In addition to the downscaled image looking soft and mushy there's also a lot of horizontal line flickering going on. We now have to move our project over to Resolve to finish it.

Avid really needs to work on FrameFlex. A high-end video editing software shouldn't have problems with the most basic image manipulation like scale, translation and rotation.

A little update on this issue:

Avid Customer Care was able to reproduce this bug and has confirmed that all Media Composer versions from 2018.12.7 to 2019.8 on Windows 10 are affected. It seems to work fine on Mac, though.
The latest confirmed version without the bug is 2018.12.3. 

So if you are running a Media Composer version from 2018.12.7 to 2019.8 on Windows 10 and plan to finish a project that uses a lot of frameflexed shots anytime soon you should consider rolling back to 2018.12.3.
Or just export an AAF and finish the project in Resolve (much better downscaling quality than frame flex!).

Avid Customer Care also told me that having a better frameflex was one of the top 10 feature requests voted for in Avid ACA and added "Improvements will happen in future versions."
Let's hope that this will happen sooner than later. The quality of frame flex even without the bug leaves very much to be desired to say the least.

Update Starting Timecode from Audio Timecode

I tried reading the Audio timecode from a video file to sync with my wave file.

but Avid only updates the Auxiliary TC1 in the metadata, not the starting timecode.

So I cannnot sync the starting timecode from my wave files to the Auxiliary TC1 of the video.

I first have to copy everything from one field to the other.

Is there any way to make things easier??

seamless switching between 1:1 copies on two discs not possible?

macbook pro late 2012, MC 8.9.4

Up to a couple of years ago, I was easily able to Finder-drag-and-drop-copy my media folders from original disc at work to a portable and work from home, but suddenly this doesn't work.

Material is both original camera files in original folders, and transcoded MXF in Avid Media Files folder, all at the top level folder on portable.

Info in bins still refers drive as the original disc, but that weren't a problem before.

Anyone of you great guys out there have an idea?
