VDM3BobVideoOut error with MC 2018.10 and 2018.8

Hey everyone,

Anybody run across this error recently?  VDM3BobVideoOut::Setup:Unexpected state

Shows up in the source window as I'm logging clips, usually when shuttling video.  Effectively freezes MC and sometimes causes it to crash.  It's annoying as all get-out, and the only way to avoid the error is to restart avid with my Blackmagic Device disabled.  Of course, that makes it sort of hard to work with any efficiency...  Seems to run normally without my BM hardware connected.

I've experienced this running MC2018.10 and 2018.8, but not prior to those versions.  I ran 2018.3 for months without this issue.  I have reason to believe that this has something to do with my Blackmagic Mini Monitor and newer versions of MC, but as far as I know I'm running the Avid recommended BM drivers (most current 10.11.4, and previously I ran 2018.8 with BM 10.11.2 and experienced the same problem).  Now running on a clean install of Windows 10 Pro with dual GTX1070 cards and a newer GeForce driver.

Got any ideas what this could be caused by?

EDIT:

I got one more error just now, one I hadn't seen yet:

"Exception: Fatal Open I/O Error - Callback consistency check failure"

Just wanted to add that.


Locked out of Media Composer, expired subscription.

Currently I'm unable to open my copy of Media Composer.  Had an annual subscription that expired in Feb of 2017.  The deal was that I could continue to use that version of MC forever, and I did in fact keep using it for a while afterwards.  However, tried to fire it up the other day and got the whole activation dialogue.  App manager hung up/wouldn't initialize or connect to my account so I uninstalled and reinstalled.  Now it connects, but that hasn't helped.  It still has all my details (system id and activation id, symphony option, etc) in the licensing tab, but when I try to activate it tells me my subscription must be renewed.

That wasn't the deal! I never upgraded MC after my subscription expired, so I should be able to access MC, right?  How can I use this software I paid for?

I gotta say, this system is a real hassle!

Need Help!!!to output to XDCAM HD50 interace in MOV wrapper not MXF

I have to output my project to a local broadcast in Bangkok and they require the delivery in XDCAM HD 50 422 interlace in MOV not MXF. I've searching all over the google and haven't find any real answer. I hope someone here would know the answer. Any help and guidance would be so appreciated.

exporting old meridian encoded SD clips

I have a client with a bunch of old interviews that were captured in SD, 486 29.97 meridian uncompressed.  He wants to save them for future use.  I would love to find a way of "same as sourceing" them so I don't need to reencode them.  SAS is a QT thing and that won't fly (newest Premiere cant see it).  Is there a way of making these avid media files, which are OP1 atom and make them into OP1a files or something with longer legs that QT.....and no I don't want to make them mp4's...

Hello everyone and Avid team, I've downloaded the Media Composer First, correctly installed but I've a problem. When I'm launching the MCF, error screen says "You do not have a Media Composer | First entitlement. Please register at my.avid.com/mcfirst for a free Media Composer | First entitlemen". And I'm trying to sign in into Application Manager, in "Account" tab, I'm seeing the "Getting subscription data..." message but nothing happens, and I can't open the MCF.

 

What can I do?

Loosing workspace settings

Hi

 

I´m working on several different Avid MC systems. All with different setups of monitors. Some 2 x 4k, others just one monitor.

I usually import my rather complex user settings, all handcrafterd to the Avid I´m using.

My problem is, if I open a wrong user setting set up to different resoultion monitors, I loose all af my Workspace settings.

I then have to do them all over again.

Any other having this problem and know who to solve it?

Another thing that bothers me is source/recorder windows on high resolution monitors can´t be scaled up to use the whole monitor. Is there a workaround?

FrameFlex in multicam mode

Good day, I have one qestion using FrameFlex option in multicam mode. I have two files with adjusted FrameFlex. I group this files by IN point and get group clip, but after inserting this clip on timeline I do not see FrameFlex icon on the clip and can't apply FrameFlex option to group clip - "Source settings" is inactive. Although FrameFlex settings is applied to clips and I see it in group clip, I can't adjust it and I need adjust FrameFlex individually for each clip on timeline, created during multicam editing. Can I do this?


deblocking/debanding filter (MC, BCC) ?

I would like to smooth some heavily pixelated/banded 720p MP4 videos.

Quickly browsing through my effects palette (MC, BCC 10, RED 5.6), I couldn't find something called deblocking or debanding...BCC's DV Fixer doesn't seem to fix that kind of problem...

What filter/tool would you use to accomplish this, without sacrificing too much of the clip sharpness ?

Avid Not Recognizing Activated License

I opened MC 8.3 today and got the "Welcome To Avid Media Composer" window where I choose the type of activation. I purchased my subscription online so I selected Electronic Activation and it took me to the Application Manager and the Licensing tab. My version of MC was there with nothing but the "Deactivate" option available (so I assumed that meant it was okay). I tried deactivating it and got this message: "Failed Deactivation: 0 Deactivation OK. No record of this device was found."

I thought maybe this was an update issue so I uninstalled MC and reinstalled it with 8.4. Still the same problem. So I went to my online account and to the "Activate Product Subscription" page. It was asking me for a Download Code. I don't have one anywhere. I checked all the information pages on my account and all I have is a System ID, Activation ID and Device ID, none of which work. I checked my receipt, nothing. Old support threads, nothing. I can't find any solution to this problem and I need to access Avid this weekend. Please help!

I recently cloned my HD and moved it to another computer. I'm thinking that could part of the reason why this is happening.

I'm running Mac OS 10.10.3

All drives filtered out in Media Creation

I'm running MC 8.9 on a Mac OS 10.12.6. Every time I try to add a dissolve I get a message that the source drive in unavailable. When I go into Media Creation settings, all drives have been filtered out and there's no way to change that. Nothing is checked off in the Drive filtering box. All the drives have Read and Write permissions. I tried creating a new project and new user and that didn't change anything either. Any other possible fixes out there?

MC 2018.8 Problems saving Bins from older Version: Assertion failed

Hi there,

we're having some huge problems with Media Composer 2018.8.

We have around 20 edit suites and are upgrading our whole facility from 8.4.5 to 2018.8. This takes quite a while. Unfortunately a lot of bins created in 8.4.5 raise an error in 2018.8 after you changed something inside the bin and then closing / saving it. The error is:

Assertion failed: iter != sWindowList.end ()

File s:\ppg\mediacomposer\media_composer\mcwindowsmenuutils.cpp, Line:141

The bins do not save and we cannot close them. Any suggestions here? We cannot migrate huge projects by creating a new project in 2018.8 and duplicate every content to a new bin. We need to work simultaneously on 2018.8 and 8.4.5.

timing differences between users while indexing and scanning

Hello,

I hope someone can help with this issue, we have 5 mac pros connected to isis 4.7.11 running composer 8.5.3. All worked perfectly until the other day when we had a power cut. The server and 4 editors had ups/battery back-ups and were all shutdown in time, including the server. The 5th station did not and obviously shutdown incorrectly. Since then ONLY this unit does not work correctly because every time we launch composer we get

exception: operation timed out, filename:/Volumes/Media_OMFI_SFX3/OMFI MediaFiles/avid2/msmFMID.pmr

If we disconnect this workstation from the isis and work locally everything is ok.

We tried deleting the pmr & mob files from this workstation and the indexing took 8 hours and estimated time for scanning is 13 hours. When we did the same operation on one of the other (working) Avids the indexing took 10 minutes and scanning about 5 minutes. I dont understand why ?

By the way this workspace only has the omfi media files folder, it does not have the mxf folder with the various subfolders.

Does anyone have any ideas please

Speed effecting mixed framerate clips causes error "Range specified for Dup is outside range of component."

I'm having an issue with slowing down mixed framerate media in a 23.98 project. My workflow has been to link and transcode 29.97 clips retaining the framerate to make the online simpler. When I want to slow one down I go to the motion effect, click promote (whatever that means) and then I can slow it down. What's weird is some clips will cause the sequence to become corrupt when I do this. I won't be able to do anything to that clip in the sequence, nor duplicate or move the sequence to another bin without the error "Range specified for Dup is outside range of component" though the bin will save.

It doesn't happen every time or to every 29.97 clip so it's a bit hard to diagnose. Based on some troubleshooting it may have to do with a clip that has an aspect ratio AND an fps frame flex effect but I'm not 100% sure.

Does anyone have experience with an issue like this? It seems like a bug to me so I'm happy to help get it fixed by providing any logs that may be helpful.

Segmentation error on trimming 2018.10.0

Hello:

Every time I grab video with the trim roller and try to manually roll the edit, I get a crash.  I'm on a MacPro5,1 tower, (mid 2010), on High Sierra 10.13.4.  This worked fine on 2018.9.0, which I was using earlier today, same project, DNxHD36 media.

I've included the splash screen I see on crash.  Is it me, or a bug?

Avid MC 8.9 changes clip length in sequence when relinking

Having a very strange issue that has been causing me grief during our uprez.

I take my editor's offline finished sequence, mix it down for a reference layer. Decompose all clips and overcut the video reference on the top layer. Then I relink to the online drive, which already has some high resolution media. Many different frame rates on this show, but lots of media relinks without issue.

Then I look at my timeline. After the relink, many clips have been slipped. My video reference is one frame off, then farther down it's two frames off. Nothing wrong with the video ref- my clips have physically moved.

Am I doing something wrong? Are the mixed rates messing with my timeline? I've never seen this before, and it seems like a huge problem. Yes, I can (and will) adjust the clip timing to match the original timeline, but a relink shouldn't be altering clip placement.

Loss of fx on change of Avid Version - help!!!

Hi everyone

I changed my licensing to Avid 2018.10 in July and didn't choose the symphony option, which I had on my previous version.

I felt as if one of my projects lost some of the image stabilization and resizing and potentially some of the grading - although I spoke to licensing today and they said that this shouldn't have happened.

Has anyone else come across this???

Then today - I needed to export a version of another project and this is coming up in timeline.  It wasn't there before - I've re-rendered ... any ideas?

SCRIPTED - Clip Naming - British Slate system

Hey Guys,

 

Hopefully someone has an idea on this (and I'm in the right forum) but I'm AEing a part scripted/doc series that's being Shot in South Africa and thus using the British Slate system instead of Shots. So normally on scene 50 shot A a clip might be named sc50A/1 for the first take. On these clapboards Scene 50 has "Slate 71" in lieu of Shot A. What's the best way to name these clips so American editors don't get confused by all the number? Do I name it 50_71/a for Scene 50, Slate 70, Take 1 or do I name it with the slate taking precedent? ie: 70_50/1 (Slate 70, Scene 50, take 1?)

I hope this makes sense.

XAVC-S Timecode - AMA link

I know that reading XAVC-S timecode has been a problem in the past - but I was under the impression that it was fixed in MC 2018.8. The problem Im having is only half of the files from a shoot are coming in with the proper TC. The two clips in the image attached were shot sequentially - same frame rate, same raster size, same codec - but only one of them has the proper TC. This seems to be happening only on the HD files. The UHD files are all coming in with correct TC. 

Bug?

Hi there. I can't seem to activate my Avid. It keeps saying, "Response is out of order with previous responses."

 

Any help would be appreciated.
