Media Composer 8.4.0 - MXF import/link troubles

I'm not able to link MXF files, I get the following errors when selecting the '.aaf'-file:

 

Either:

"Unable to link to file or volume. You may need to download & install the AMA plug-in from the Avid AMA website. See Console for more instructions." 

Or if i force the system to use the .mxf plugin via a link profile:

"Operation failed. Check the DMF status window for more information. "

Since I don't know where the DMF status window is, I go to the background queue and find the following errors:

"One or more sub-jobs have failed"

And in the sub-job:

"AMA Link operation failed for file '/Volumes/Media/AAF/a012_c001_0731pc.AAF' : unable to find file handler (in "submitted" phase)."

Lost Avid Symphony, need help re-activating

I’m having problems installing (re-installing) Media Composer 7 with Symphony. I had previously Symphony 6.5 installed but the hard drive was wiped before deactivation. I sent an e-mail to Marianna Montague (a reply to a previous related conversation) but then realized that she might not be in charge of that department anymore. Can someone tell me who should I contact for issues with my “perpetual licenses” installations?. I also have an annual support contract.

ISIS 1000 - MC crash/freez

Dear Community!

We have 3+1 workstations, a 17TB NAS, and an AVID ISIS 1000.
Since we had the ISIS our workstations crashes randomly when working on a project on ISIS. 
We have projects that created before ISIS on an AVID Unity (5.1.3), and media files had been created on that, then consolidated to an HDD then the ISIS, then the projects copied too.
Media files are online, everything should work well, except the workstations which using the ISIS crashes randomly during editing, or playing the file in AVID, and very often (stimes after 15 minutes.)
During these crashes, the Windows freezes too, and have to reset the PC.

We created new projects on ISIS and ingest files from 0, but during working on these projects too, still crashing at least not very often, just once in an hour.  

If we only trascode, group, or export files it doesn't freezes so often, but during editing it gets much worse.

Now then:
Projects consolidated from unity to ISIS: crashes very often

Projects created on ISIS, with freshly ingested media files: crashes 

database has been rebuilt, nothing changed. 

ISIS log file shows nothing wrong. If we work on an external drive on USB 3.0 there are no crashes. 

HP workstation Z420 + Nitris DX + AVID supported LAN card + nVidia quadro + AVID MC 8.4 (latest)

DELL N2024 switch connected to ISIS with 3 m twinax cable.

If we copy mediafiles and project to local from ISIS everything ok, no freezes, no crashes anymore...

We tried:

- without Nitrix Dx

- clean PC, MC install

- change eth cable

- network diagnostics - with zero error

- reinstall driver / client

- clear user / project settings

- rebuild database

- check system permissions

but nothing changed...

Would you give any idea, what should be the problem OR the solution?

Mixed camera formats

 I could use some help with mixed camera formats, multi cam setup and flex frame.

 My final project in MC is 1920x 1080 at 23.97 frames. I am importing footage from two 4k cameras and one HD camera.

 First camera is a JVC GY-HM 170

format H.264 in mov wrapper resolutions 3840x2160 24 fps

 Second cameras is a Sony AX100

format used AVCHD & Mp4 both have resolutions of 3840x 2160  23.97 FPS

 Third camera is

Canon t3i at 1920x1080 23.97 FPS

I was able to "link to media" the JVC H.264 QT and then transcode to DNxHR at 3840x2160. I then linked in a bin and transcoded, Inside the bin the image size was 1920x1080 but the format was 3840x2160. 

I was not able to bring in the Sony AX100 Mpeg 4 it needed to be transcoded to QT DNxHR at 3840x2160. I then linked in a bin and transcoded, Inside the bin the image size was 1920x1080 but the format was 3840x2160. 

I imported the Canon T3i fine.

I then made sub clips of the three cameras in bin, set the in points and grouped them together for multicam view.

Question 1

When I bring the grouped clips to the timeline and use Effect Editor I do not see Frame Flex. Workaround is to add another video track and bring in the transcoded footage from the bin.

Question 2

The sony camera is at a different aspect ratio in the source and composer window then the JVC camera in the composer window. Both these aspect ratios should be the same because both cameras have the same resolution.

no output in uhd 50P via hdmi on my Artist DNxIO

Hello,

Working with my brand new (finally arrived) Artist DNxIO. Working in the above resolution and have a sony 4k monitor attached via BNC connectors and everything works perfectly. I connected a consumer 4k monitor via hdmi and do not get any output. Is this a setting or is it supposed to be like this.

Any answer greatfully appreciated.

stop effects from affecting lower layers

So any idea of how not to have my bcc dissolve affect my lower tracks. Also have a flop effect I need to not affect any bottom layers. Also have a BCC film glow that is affecting again my bottom filter that is a stage light effect. So yes I have a lot going on and I don't need them all enteracting.

Hey, I am working on 72 min documentary project. I came to 5 min. and I have this alert Alert Message: "Segmentation Fault" in thread "Main Thread", at address 0x0.  media composer crashes. I can't open the project anymore...what can I do? I had no problem till now with crashes or errors. Using OS El capitan on Macbook pro mid 2015 max. config. and MC7.

I need to get in to the project there was a lot of work preparing the footage and bins.

Re-formatting: What Do I Need to Take With Me?

Hi all,

A simple question (I think.)

I need to re-format my computer, re-install the OS, etc.

What do I need to take with me to ensure that the projects that are currently on the computer will open and operate properly when I finish with the re-format?

I have my system set on "Private", so I assume that I will need to copy all the folders in my Avid Projects main folder in My Documents.

But is there anything else? Like, I don't know, the auto back-ups in Avid Attic?

I just want to ensure that I don't go through the process before knowing what I need to save, as, well, I need to access these projects immediately after the re-fresh.

Any advice would be fantastic!

Edit: I should mention that all of my media files are on external hard drives.

Avid DNXiO dropping Audio whilst playing

System Information

HP z840 qualified Avid system with windows 7 64 bit SP1 with all latest Avid Hotfixes

Avid software is version 7.05 media composer

System seems to be working fine but it seems the Audio deops out every now and again. You can play it fine but when using JKL edits, it sometimes loses the Audio, Simple timeline with 1 video and 4 layers of Audio. The Audio still registers on the meters but is not coming through the speakers.

The speakers are connected Phono to the 3rd monitor whilst the feed to this monitor from the DNXiO box is HD -SDI

This is a relatively new Install

Not sure whats different to 3.41 as it says the same updates in the readme as before!!
Prob worth installing for safety.

Colour Space and Pro Res Video Mixdown Question

Hi 

 

Working in 8.4.0

I am in the process of taking a legacy project which was created 7 years ago for TV and delivering it for a web paltform.

The original material was cut and created in 1080i/50fps in the YCbCr 709 Colourspace.

I created a new project at 1080p and imported all the required bins then refreshed all sequences and converted them to 1080p 25fps as per delivery requirement.

However delivery specs require Apple Pro Res HQ and when my project is in RGB 709 colourspace the only only video mixdown options are 1:1 RGB, DnxHD 4444 or Apple Pro Res 4444 ? Apart from the fact that is not the format required the files sizes are obvioulsy huge and impossible for me to handle currently.

Is there a solution here or do I just continue to mixdown video in YCbCr 709 and then on export "scale from legal to full"? My thoughts are this will have an impact on the image?

Should I get a 4K camera to do 1080p?

I make commercials for local broadcast.  All spots are delivered in 1080p.  I currently shoot 1080p with a broadcast camera and record from the camera's SDI out to an Atomos Samurai Blade as DNxHD 220x files.   In Symphony, I can easily AMA link and consolidate the DNxHD footage before editing.  The workflow is fast and reliable.

I've been reading good reviews on the new Sony PXW-FS7 Digital Cinema camera which is due out at the end of the year.   I love the filmic look of the camera, which has a full 35mm sensor and shoots 4K.   I don't need 4K...and none of my broadcasters will accept 4K.   But I would think a 4K camera with a 35mm sensor should look really great in 1080p mode, especially if I record DNxHD 220x from the SDI out.  

Is this a valid assumption?

I'm about to purchase an Airspeed system but the person selling won't include the hard drives.  Will this be an issue in locating the software from Avid or will it cost a bunch of money to get that software?

"RENDER NOT FOUND" when audio source has been mixed down

Hi

 

We encounter "RENDER NOT FOUND" error, when we execute Web API call, "checkSequenceIsReadyForXfer" to a scequence which has audio source pre-processed "audio mix down".

We don't get such error if the same audio source has not been processed "audio mix down".

This happens regardless the source format is XDCAM or DNxHD.

 

The WebService version is, v.3.0.9.

 

The detail of the error message is, "RENDER_NOT_FOUND:There were unrendered effects:There are unrendered effects in this sequence."

 

Could you please advise if this is a software bug, or the operational error ?

Avid MC 8 jittery playback issues with MacPro OS 10.10.3

In editing a short form project in Avid MC 8.4, we are getting a jittery and skippy video playback consistently even though we're watching at half res (green/yellow), rendering often, with a powerful MacPro, and have only one editor working off this media partition on our Facilis server. For client viewing, we are connected to a Panasonic TV through an AJA ioXT. It seems to get bad enough for a need to restart the whole computer, which helps for a short while. Any tips on how to optimize our set up and avoid so many restarts?

More details on the setup:

  1. MacPro cylinder (Late 2013)
  • Processor: 3.5 GHz 6-core
  • 32 GB ram
  • Graphics: AMC FirePro D700
  • OS: 10.10.3 Yosemite
  1. Avid MC 8.4. Project is 1080p 23.98, RGB 107.

  2. Media: We ingested DNxHD encoded QTs and some ProRes4444 to a 1920x1080 23.98 project DNxHD 36 mxf. Avid media is on it's own a separate partition from the project, all only being used by one editor at a time with plenty of space.

  3. Server: Facilis version 6.2, restarted 1-2 times/week, connected out via ethernet.

  4. Monitor out to Panasonic LCD TV through AJA IoXT HDMI out.
    AJA with latest software and driver (install 12.2.1).
    AJA Format matches Avid sequence: 1920x1080 23.98, color space YUV 8 bit
    *It helps to disconnect the AJA for monitoring, but doesn't completely solve.

  5. Edit: It's short! 30 second commercials, some simple masking and scale/position keyframes.

Uknown error on SOME footage, not all

Good afternoon. I have a project I am working on that is HD 1080. The studio footage plays fine after I have brought it in through AMA.

The field footage does NOT play unless I change the COLOR SPACE from YcBr to RGB. Then all the footage will play.

I put the clips in one bin together and checked all the columns to see if there were any differences in the clips and I have found none so far.

Once I add clips to my sequence I can do a mixdown and swtich back to YcBr amnd it plays fine.

Any ideas? Attached is the error image. Thanks!

P2 cam not talking to Avid any more

Ok - strictly not talking to a PC rather than Avid - but just a quick post to see if anyone had the experience and has a fix?

Used cam for 4 years via USB2 to offload P2 cards.  Wobbly yesterday and no talkie any more - had a couple of connections and unsuccesful slow transfers but that is worse than no transfer at all!  

So, uninstalled all P2 software (P2 Viewer etc) and then just reloaded the base P2 drivers.  30 re-boots.  No dice - cam still wont connect as a device to my Avid PC.  No changes to BIOS have happened as its untouched.

It works fine on the laptop though so am temporarily going via an USB3 SSD from laptop offload to Avid PC .  

What can I do to the PC to get it to work again?  USB2&3 works fine for all other devices on it on all ports.
