Yikes. Just saw this in the 8.0 Read Me:

Both PhraseFind and ScriptSync are dependent on underlying technology from a partner company that provides phonetic indexing and searching. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer these options for sale. If you own ScriptSync and/or PhraseFind, your license will continue to work with your current version of Media Composer (v5.5 - 7.0.x). Upgrading to Media Composer | Software v8 will cause ScriptSync and PhraseFind to no longer function.

This is seriously a deal breaker. Both of these tools are invaluable to my editing. Can someone please confirm that a solution to get these working in v8.x is forthcoming? I simply cannot upgrade without them.

So we currently are having a few issue with PhraseFind 2

1. Can't figuare out how to get an upgrade to work. Purchased a PhraseFind 2.0 upgrade, and have my PhraseFind 1.0 activation box/code. But that's as far as it goes. Can't activate 1.0 on 8.8 and 2.0 gives me a "Prior product is not correct for this Upgrade Licenese" error. Also can't add 1.0 to my.avid account.

2. I have PhraseFind 2.0 activated on 2 other system. On both system PhraseFind finds nothing, reutrning zero results. Indexing lights are green but no results in 2 different projects. Both are Macs running 8.8, one is OS 11.12 the other is OS 11.11, connected to ISIS.

This is more theoretical than anything else but I want to throw it out there. 

Alright, so while our Unity is getting a little long in the tooth, we have also not had a single issue with it and I would love to continue to use it. Has anyone considered restripping the drives and just using the hardware with a different software layer? Its probably more trouble than its worth but I would hate to toss out an old system because developement of the software has cessed. I imgaine I would run into issues with the proprietary FIRMWARE on the drives and other detatils, but at the end of the day, its just a bunch of disks. 

I woud like to know what you all think.

As the title says, there's still an issue with wacom behaviour - what I'd describe as false clicks, activating windows as the pointer moves past them. I've tried rolling back several drivers with no improvement.  The wacom behaves as expected outside of MC.

Running OSX 10.11.6

MC 8.6.4 didn't exhibit these problems.

Odd thing, every so often I'll try to apply color correction to a clip, in this case by source clip name, and I get the error: "Only CC Effect Correction can be applied to filler." It was working fine a minute ago and now I'm getting the error. Has anyone else encountered this? Any ide on how to fix it?

I definately have the track with video selected and not a filler track, but still get the message. This is really annoying.

So i just started with avid, because i´m sick of the lack of stability on Premiere, and i need some help ☺

In premiere i used to put all clips on a timeline and make add edits and put the ones e like on V2, just pull them up (nudge up), then i select all clips with the arrow from select track. And premiere selects all clips on V1 and their audio, and doesn't select nothing on V2 or its audio even if the audio is in the same track as V1. I then do a ripple delete have all the "good" clips i selected, without any gaps fillers, between them.

But on avid i just can´t select the clips on V1 this way, i always get the V1 its audio, and also the audio of V2. Even if i select the red arrow an shift click all clips on V1 to ripple delete them, i just can´t because the extract and lift dont work. I can only do a standart delete, and then i get all those black filler spaces ☹

So is there any way i can achieve the same result as premiere? Because this is always been my workflow ☹ thanks

I have read elswhere here that to get 30fps to play smoothly in a 25 project you create the  project in the delivery frame rate, create another project in 29.97fps import into that, then open this bin in the delivery project to insert the rushes. Avid then automatically applies a timewarp effect to the non-standard clip. I did all this but no effect has been applied. I tried applying timeward manually but I get "effect does not apply'.

What am I doing wrong?

in these days I noticed by accident that network flow generated by plugin is doubled. I map a network drive with some clips and AMA linked a clip from it. Then I start to play the clip with full quality ( requested image scale is 1.0). My material has a flow rate of 100Mbit while playing a clip with MC the measured flow on the network is 200Mbit. That is  doubled !!

I insert an outputdebugstring in order to display read operation in ProvideSampleRange:

The cpu is an Intel i5 with 4 cores, so we have 3  instances of SampleMapping  (Threads with ID 5516, 9256 and 11096) like if the number of instances is NumcoresCPU-1 and the sample reading is one for each instance.  Playing the same clip with another player (QuickTime) I see a network flow of 100Mbit as it should be, whilst playing with Media Composer the TaskManager reports 200Mbit. Observing the tick time at every read, I note that each read are spaced of about 30ms in time (correct, rate is 25Hz) but I didn't see double reads (that is different instances that read same frame).  Any suggestions ?  How can I detect who generate this doubled flow ?

We've just finished picture editing our latest feature documentary on MC 8.5.2.  We shot on Canon C100, some Canon 5D B-roll material and a few iPhone 6 shots and imported the media (rather than using AMA) into a PC workstation at DNXHD 115.  Now it's time to export the show to send out for color timing & finishing.  Exhibition is theatrical/festival then broadcast.  I'm wondering if someone might be able to describe the latest workflow that will get our project output at the best possible quality.  Many thanks.

I have created a large Avid DS caption file for import via the subcap tool. The file was created by taking a transcript that a producer made in excel and then converting it to make the subcap file.

What's become clear is that the producer has made many, many mistakes when entering timecode values including entering timecode values which have start times before the previous entry. Often this is simply entering one wrong character but obviously when this is the case subcap just refuses to import anything.

Now I've been through the document a number of times and have corrected many of the mistakes I can find but I'm clearly still missing a lot of these mistakes and for a document this long it's a painfully slow process so what I'm wondering is, is there an application or "trick" anyone knows of that will allow me to check the validity of an Avid DS Caption file and highlight the problematic timecodes.

I have been having a lot of problems with MC trying to edit mixed HD and SD footage.  I've tried using an SD project and down converting the HD and vice versa. I keep getting SFPlayConsumer: Execute Timeout error and various others which refer to video coder.  Double clicking various actions has enabled me to carry on, albeit slowly, but now, when I open the project, suddenly the workspace opens up with one large composer window filling three-quarters of the screen; this cannot be resized or closed and the option to change workspace layout has a tick against single view editing which also cannot be altered.  I have sometimes used restore default layout with success but the next time I open a project (any project) it reverts to one large composer view.  

I have tried reinstalling MC and also manaually reinstalled nVidia driver 353.82 (is this correct?) but to no avail.  

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Just installed 8.6.3 and crashes every time before I even get to the load project window. Uninstalling and going back to 8.6.1.

First time I ever had this problem on this system. MC has always run flawlessly.

Anyone else had this problem?

Hi,

we have bugs after rendering clips with color corretion on it. Result aft render is for one frame the color effect does not work, rest of the clip works fine.

We got this bug with XDCAM and GoPro materiel.

Rendersetting DNxHD 120, Windows 7, HP Z820, 32GB RAM, AVID MediaComposer 8.7

I tried changing the format to HD and doing a mixdown and I got a zoomed in and cropped image.

How do you preserve the Frame Size and Aspect Ratio when changing formats from some 4k flavor to

1080 HD?

Everything works fine under 8.6.4, but after installing 8.7.2 or 8.8, trying to load my media into source or record monitor crashes media composer. My media is AMA linked XF-AVC INTRA  RBG 4:4:4 from C300mkII, mostly 2k, but some 1080p, all 23.976fps. The rest of my media plays fine, but unfortunately this is the bulk of my media.

Trying to get to 8.8 for Scriptsync... Downgraded back to 8.6.4 and all is fine again.

Anyone else seen this?
