Quicktime Reference error using network

$

I seem to be running into an error when creating a QT reference on my 'work station' and then trying to render it on my server/render station. The error is created by OSx but since the QT ref is created by Avid I'm hoping someone has an answer here.

So here's the setup: I'm running Media Composer 8.7.2 on my 'work station' This is an iMac 3,2 i5 with 16 GB RAM running OSx 10.11.6. My media is on my server: an older MacPro running 10.11.6 as well.

Now what I'm trying to do is create a QT Ref on my work station, save this to the server and start rendering the Ref on the server (using Compressor, Squeeze, MPEG Streamclip, whatever..). Now when I'm on my server and try to import the Ref into a program that will let me render the file I get an error saying "There was a problem connecting to the server - This file server is availiable on your computer. Acces the volumes and files locally." (OSx error). This error keeps coming back until I've quit the application I want to use to render the file.

When I try to import the Ref into a render app on my work station everything works fine. I've tried saving the Ref to both the work station (and acces it through the network on my server) and the server itself. So, to me, it seems that the Ref has some communication error with the Media Files. As if the server is trying to re-create the path to the files from my work station and thus creates an error because it's trying to acces itself via the network.

Anyone have any solutions or suggestions?

We are in need of an archive/backup cloud based storage for about 5 TB of files. We would like to be able to access them from PC and Mac and also have a sharing ability. We want no upload/download caps or limits. Also no file size limits. Client based and web based to. Any suggestions. We are considering dropbox business.  Is there anything better or more cost affective?

MC 8.8 Now Available!

We are pleased to announce that Media Composer v8.8 is ready for download. The Media Composer v8.8 software is located on the Download Center (login and password required). Please consult the attached readme file before downloading. Additional guides are available on the Knowledge Base.

Changed in v8.8:  The following items have been added to Media Composer v8.8. For details on each new item, see the “Whats New Guide for Media Composer v8.8”.

-  Timeline Clip Notes -  You can add notes to clips in the Timeline and view all the notes in the Timeline Clip Notes Window. (Used to be Adding Comments.)

- Frame Cache for Effects – Editing Enabling Frame Cache when performing Color Correction

ScriptSync - ScriptSync uses phonetic-indexing technology to analyze the audio portion of a clip and match it to lines of the script text.

-  Bin Sharing on Non Avid Storage - The editing application will notify you if your third party storage is emulating Avid NEXIS or Avid ISIS storage.

-  Change to Find Window - A few changes have been made to the Find Window.

-  Change to the Script Window -  A few changes have been made to the Script Window.

Fixed in v8.8: The following issues have been resolved in Media Composer v8.8:

- You could not open a project if the project was named Clip.

- In some instances you could not successfully drag and drop audio clips above or below the TC track.

- Custom Colors did not stay in the Color Palette when using Clip Color.

- Disabling the “Auto-create new tracks” setting was ignored when using Edit While Capture clips.

- The Cutlist EndHdl timecode was short one frame.

- (List Tool) The marker values were empty in an Optical List.

- (List Tool) Markers did not display on Opticals in an Assemble List.

- When performing an Export to Device with an XDCAM device attached, you might have received a “Please connect XDCAM device or insert disk” message.

- In some instances, exporting a graphic from linked XAVC Long GOP media failed with an assertion error.

- In some instances, rendering a sequence with muted clips resulted in clips being partially rendered.

- The Project Window summary might have been empty on a Mac system, or contained garbled text on a Windows system.

- When importing some .wav files, the name of the files include a“/” which is an illegal character that is not supported in Interplay. This is because Media Composer uses the values of“Scene/Take” for the file name when importing Broadcast Wave files. An additional Import Setting has been added to the Import Settings dialog. The “Use Broadcast Wave Scene and Take for Clip Names” is defaulted on. If you are importing Broadcast Wave files and you do not want them named using Scene/Take, you must deselect this option in the Import Settings:Audio dialog box.

Limitations: There are 5 limitations and workarounds outlined in the ReadMe for Media Composer v8.8.

New Nvidia Driver: Nvidia Driver v375.86 is supported with this release.

I have an Avid RTR320x dual raid drive with all my media on. ( 5 drives in each) One of the drives failed, so I have repalced it with another and waited for it to rebuild, as per instructions. Afer the auto  rebuild all my numbered MXF folders have gone. I get this message on trying to layunch a project: Exception: FILE_OTHER, filename G:\ OMFI\MediaFiles\msnFMID.pmr

Execption. SYS+ERROR, status 1392,msg:The files or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

When I try to look in the root MXF folder I get: MXF is not accessable. This file is corrupted or unreadable.

The drive properites indicates that is has data on still.

Am I screwed?

Nexis 7.2 Chassis ID's not working

Dear Avid, Hi Bob,

I hope you are doing good. If you want I can open a case with support for this minor issue.

I have just setup a Nexis System director with 2 E4 chassis. The whole setup went fine except that all 3 chassis after install of the 7.2 version do not keep their chassis ID. Regardless if I select the number with the arrows or manually enter a 00, 01, 02 or 03 the system confirms the update is applied succesfully but the web page returns the ID to 0 and the display on each chassis does not display anything.

It does not seem to impact the system in any other way. Any idea what might be going on?

More GPUs Supported Now?

I have an Nvidia Titan X in a Z820 and noticed that when our newly installed Avid 8.6.4 launched, the splash screen said "GPU support enabled". I then looked in the text file that enables/disables cards and noticed that it ONLY has exculsions now eg cards that are NOT supported.

We are due to build a new system and I wondered if there was any official word on this or if anyone else could chime in? The Avid system requirments page still has the very small number of supported GPU listed...

Thanks

Media Creation Setting

There used to be a setting in the "Settings" tab titled "Media Creation". Avid editors used to be able to go to this setting and pre-select the drive they wanted Titles, Renders, and Efx to go to.

Sadly, the Media Creation setting is no longer there.

But! I have good news! The exact same task can be accomplished by clicking on a blank setting at the top of the "Settings" tab. Why did avid chose to remove the name from this setting and have all these options live under a mysterious un-named blank setting tab? Was it an act of intentional disobediance to make life harder for Avid Editors? Or was it simply a mistake? Perhaps we will never know.

Avid Media Composer to DaVinci re-link imported proxies to original source footage

I have an offline sequence within AMC using imported Canon DLSR footage at DNxHD36 resolution. When I output an AAF, the clips are referencing the MXF files on my drive, rather than the source footage files (which will be required by the colourist using DaVinci).

So, the colourist (who is in a different country) has the hard drive with the original footage, but on receipt of my AAF, cannot re-link to the source footage (the sequence clips reference the MXF files).

I did not use AMA linking from the outset (maybe I should have), but does anyone have a solution so that the colourist can import the AAF sequence and grade using the full-res source clips?

Help Dealine soon!! How to select Clips on tracks and ripple delete like premiere?

$

So i just started with avid, because i´m sick of the lack of stability on Premiere, and i need some help ☺

In premiere i used to put all clips on a timeline and make add edits and put the ones e like on V2, just pull them up (nudge up), then i select all clips with the arrow from select track. And premiere selects all clips on V1 and their audio, and doesn't select nothing on V2 or its audio even if the audio is in the same track as V1. I then do a ripple delete have all the "good" clips i selected, without any gaps fillers, between them.

But on avid i just can´t select the clips on V1 this way, i always get the V1 its audio, and also the audio of V2. Even if i select the red arrow an shift click all clips on V1 to ripple delete them, i just can´t because the extract and lift dont work. I can only do a standart delete, and then i get all those black filler spaces ☹

So is there any way i can achieve the same result as premiere? Because this is always been my workflow ☹ thanks

i Just realize im in the wrong part of the forum, im sorry can you guys move this :(

Help with Auto Sync and Linked clips

I am linking to video clips that are in Apple ProRes and those clips are playing fine.  I now need to create an auto sync clip with the sound files.  When I do I get an "Insufficient Media" error.  I understand that while linking to a clip the computer is only pointing to the media, but is there any way to use auto sync without having to import the clip thereby reprocessing the entire thing again????

Autosync- sound disappears?

Autosync question- I have media on an external drive.  I am using autosync to sync the video and audio at in points and create a sync clip.  I have everything (at least I thought) in my Media Creation settings targeted to that external drive.  Yet, when I move that drive to a different computer everything works except the sync clips I had created no longer have sound on them.  What have I not done correctly???????????

Will a project in 8.4 or 8.5 open in 8.8 win 10?

Reason why I am asking this is I just read a thread on some issues - about crashes and perhaps video cards problems in refernce to projects that were opened earlier than in 8.6    Being that I needed a new Mothrboard and Cpu  I decided to go with Win 10.   Still waiting for some parrts.  I will have to open up a project and do some work on it, that was originally started in Aug 2015 not sure what version -  I just worked on it recently in 8.7.2 on Win 7 no problem- so I am wondering will I have any problems with it in 8.8 with windows 10?

thank you

We have got Problems when exporting Clips on XDCAM. Somitimes it works, somtimes not.

AVID knows the XDCAM drive, but won´t export. AVID says, it doesn´t see the XDCAM Drive"Please connct XDCAM device or insert disk".

Linking and consolidate via ama and XDCAM drive works fine.

We have actual AMA Plug Ins, also tested this with old versions

Any Ideas?

Tape-like drop outs in timeline

$

After over 10 years using Avid, first time I've encountered this. Drop outs in the timeline, every few clips. Clips are clean in the source monitor. Only started happening this week. Nothing has changed in my workflow, no hardware changes. The only change has been up grade to MC 8.8.

Re-inserting affected clip usually fixes the problem but that's becoming tedious particularly if affected clip was corrected or had an effect on it. Have to do all that work again!

Sample frame below at an edit but also happens mid way through clips.

Has anyone encountered this? Suggestions to fix?

Thanks,

Mark.

Have I missed something? It used to be that you could see thumbnail previews of titles by highlighting in a bin and hitting the 'home' key. It's no longer working for me. Has something changed?
