Bug: caps lock causes problems/crashes
It's been this way for a while, but I seem to get repeatable issues that are related to having caps lock on.
If, with caps lock off, you use automation gain to rubber band a section of audio all will be fine. If you repeat with caps lock on then it will often fail to record the keyframes, or will hang or crash. I think I've had similar crashes using punch-in tool or capture tool with caps lock on.
I've seen it this week on v8.5, but previous versions have done the same.
Apparently there's a large use of Ram for audio scrubbing (which is enabled by the caps lock key). So it probably affects more complicated sequences.
If a few people can repeat the bug then we might get it escalated.

Bug: background services prevent naming sequences
Running 8.5 on PC on ISIS.
When I have background renders running there's some kind of polling going on that stops me from renaming a subsequence (or probably renaming any Bin element). I start typing and it's as if I'm hitting the escape key every few seconds - cancels out to original name.
If anyone can repeat we may be able to escalate.
(if you haven't tried background renders you absolutely should, I think it is a bit more crashy though)

After Effects CC 2017 Avid DNxHR/DNxHD Codec Problem
Does anybody have a workaround for the DNxHR/DNxHD codec subsitution in Adobe After Effects 2017? Not only did they severely limit the options in the new substituted codec they also removed the ability to select 709/RGB and the ability to have Trillions of colors (now limited to Millions of colors). Its caused me to keep my entire studio on CC 2015 as well as my clients offices as well. I wish Adobe would just enable the old codec so that you could use that as an alternative because their new feature is broken.. I hope somebody feels the tears of Avid editors everywhere [:'(]

Re-create Title Media does nothing
This is a fresh install of MC 8.6.1 on my Mac (specs below). I've brought a project over from my client's Windows-based MC 8.6.1. I've got the media, but not the precomputes. So I selected a title in the timeline, marked in to out, chose Re-create Title Media and I get the bar that indicates something happens, but when it's done, the title still shows Media Offline. If I choose to render it, the render bar runs and the timeline indicates it's rendered, but I still get Media Offline.
Oddly, once rendered, the precompute appears in the Media Tool and does not indicate as offline in the Offline column, but if I load it into the source monitor (using subsys monpane debug ) it still displays Media Offline.
I can create, cut in and match frame a new title from Title Tool without trouble.

Anyone have problems with a Quadro M1000M and the latest recommended drivers for MC 8.8?
MC crashes as soon as I scrub the timeline with an effect on it such as Baselight or anything else that uses GPU from what I can tell. I reverted back to the previous GPU drivers (recommended for 8.7) and all seems fine.
Anyone?
BTW - The driver that works is 362.56 while the one that does not is 375.86 (and even tried the latest - same issue).

Changed in v8.8: The following items have been added to Media Composer v8.8. For details on each new item, see the “Whats New Guide for Media Composer v8.8”.
- Timeline Clip Notes - You can add notes to clips in the Timeline and view all the notes in the Timeline Clip Notes Window. (Used to be Adding Comments.)
- Frame Cache for Effects – Editing Enabling Frame Cache when performing Color Correction
- ScriptSync - ScriptSync uses phonetic-indexing technology to analyze the audio portion of a clip and match it to lines of the script text.
- Bin Sharing on Non Avid Storage - The editing application will notify you if your third party storage is emulating Avid NEXIS or Avid ISIS storage.
- Change to Find Window - A few changes have been made to the Find Window.
- Change to the Script Window - A few changes have been made to the Script Window.
Fixed in v8.8: The following issues have been resolved in Media Composer v8.8:
- You could not open a project if the project was named Clip.
- In some instances you could not successfully drag and drop audio clips above or below the TC track.
- Custom Colors did not stay in the Color Palette when using Clip Color.
- Disabling the “Auto-create new tracks” setting was ignored when using Edit While Capture clips.
- The Cutlist EndHdl timecode was short one frame.
- (List Tool) The marker values were empty in an Optical List.
- (List Tool) Markers did not display on Opticals in an Assemble List.
- When performing an Export to Device with an XDCAM device attached, you might have received a “Please connect XDCAM device or insert disk” message.
- In some instances, exporting a graphic from linked XAVC Long GOP media failed with an assertion error.
- In some instances, rendering a sequence with muted clips resulted in clips being partially rendered.
- The Project Window summary might have been empty on a Mac system, or contained garbled text on a Windows system.
- When importing some .wav files, the name of the files include a“/” which is an illegal character that is not supported in Interplay. This is because Media Composer uses the values of“Scene/Take” for the file name when importing Broadcast Wave files. An additional Import Setting has been added to the Import Settings dialog. The “Use Broadcast Wave Scene and Take for Clip Names” is defaulted on. If you are importing Broadcast Wave files and you do not want them named using Scene/Take, you must deselect this option in the Import Settings:Audio dialog box.
Limitations: There are 5 limitations and workarounds outlined in the ReadMe for Media Composer v8.8.
New Nvidia Driver: Nvidia Driver v375.86 is supported with this release.
How to obtain Media Composer v8.8:
If you have already installed the latest version of Media Composer, you will be notified of the availability of the v8.8 upgrade via the Application Manager v17.2. The Apps tab will also provide a link to download and install the update when desired.
If you are a new customer who purchase Media Composer on or after February 16th, 2017 you will receive this v8.8 update in your Avid Master Account.
If you are on a current Upgrade & Support plan you can download the Media Composer v8.8 update either from your Avid Master Account or the Avid Download Center (login and password required.)
If you are not on a current Upgrade & Support contract, you must purchase either a new Media Composer Subscription or Perpetual license to receive this update.

Mac will not shut down after update to 8.8 & OSX 10.12.3
Not sure if it's a Avid problem, but since I have upgraded to Mac OSX 10.12.3 and at the same time, upgraded to MC v8.8 on my two Macs, an iMac5k and a MacPro2013, both machines now have a persistent problems where they will not shut down. At the shut down command, everything seems to close, but the monitors and machines stay powered on, so I have to a hard stop them with the power button.

Unistalling AMC 5.0.3
Hi! I haven't used for a while my Media Composer 5.0.3 on an old Windows XP system and I found that I cannot open it anymore (the procedure entry point GetProcessImageFile... could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL). Anyway, I just wanted to uninstall AMC but I remembered that before unisnstalling the app, I must log out from the license. License type is NODE LOCKED. If I provide the system ID and computer name could someone log me out so I can unistall, please??!

Target Mask Video Output and Include in Export/Render Options
Hi,
I cant seem to find a way to get the Target Mask present on my video output (with 3rd party open i/o devices), seems this is a limited currentyly to 1st party devices.
Is there a chance this can be enabled in the future?
It would also be greate across the board of devices to include the Target Mask when rendering, making a video mixdown or exporting files.
I know some letterboxing can be acheived thorugh the quicktime export dialogue but that limits us to using Quicktimes and when we engage with custom QT's we all know they become 8bit too.
Perhaps another idea would be to engage the Target mask as a track effect rather than a source or record setting, which would then stream to the video out buffer and become export inclusive as well as hardware video out inclusive too.
The target mask is a great way to letterbox without adding processing overhead so it would be really useful to have the feature set expanded.

Renaming tracks in MC 8.8 slows interface reaction way down
does anybody else also experience that?
I have a timeline with 20 audio tracks - when I start renaming even only a few of the audio tracks, the timeline starts to react very slow to mouse commands, for example activating or the redirection of tracks becomes almost impossible. Maneuvering in the timeline is also very slow and sluggish...
Once I remove the last custom name the performance is back to normal.
Any idea anyone?

Help with Auto Sync and Linked clips
I am linking to video clips that are in Apple ProRes and those clips are playing fine. I now need to create an auto sync clip with the sound files. When I do I get an "Insufficient Media" error. I understand that while linking to a clip the computer is only pointing to the media, but is there any way to use auto sync without having to import the clip thereby reprocessing the entire thing again????

Video Compression Not Recognized Bug
Hi all... super frustrating issue with a feature I'm trying to output. The clips are 4K RED sources with a couple other basic resolutions mixed in like H264 from DJI Phantom, and some basic alpha titles. Right now, the sequence is glitching out with the error message, "Video compression not recognized. File..\..\src\msm\DIDReader.c, Line 4744"
I'm attempting to transcode the sequence to 2K so tried the sequence itself and I get the two errors. Then, I broke up the sequence into five parts, tried them all... same thing.
Next, I deleted the databases, to no avail.
Then, this is what really shows me there is an issue. I tried transcoding clip by clip. In a four clip section, there's a V1 layer with four clips, V2 with four clips, V3 with four clips. I did each clip separately and no problem, transcoded like how it's supposed to. All 12 clips work on their own (but not together). Then, I sub-sequenced the four clips in V1 on its own, then V2, then V3... transcoded those, all worked, no error. However, when I did the 'stack' of three, the errors popped up. When I did just two layers... errors again.
I wasted a night upgradinging, downgrading, to no avail. Right now I'm on 8.6.3. Do I have to go down to 8.5 or something, at this point? I don't know what else to do but I'm afraid of losing the colorwork I've done, which links to the RMD looks.
All I know is that the producers are floored at how buggy this process as been and they keep asking why I'm not on Premiere :/ Definitely not a good look for Avid, if it's supposed to be 'industry standard'.
Anyway, I would love any insight into how to fix this programming bug. Thanks all.

particle array 3d
Im using a picture with alpha matte and have applied the boris particle array 3D to it. When setting the color to layer xy the particles are present in the alpha channel. Anyone knows how to have only the particles appear where the image is in the picture and not be seen where the alpha channel is at?

Problema al controlar plugins Logic Pro X
Hola amigos, Tengo el siguiente problema, al controlar cualquier plugin bajo logic pro X mediante los Knobs de la Mc Control, estos van a saltos tengo que moverlos muy muy lento para que funcionen bien, pero si me paso este pega un salto y es imposible de manejar.
Existe alguna solucion al respecto.
Uso OSX el capitan en su ultima version actualizada.

Me esta pasando desde hace ya mucho tiempo pero hasta ahora no me he decidido a comentarlo en esta canal.
¿Existe alguna incompatibildiad con Logic Pro X y Euphonix?.

DNxIO 3D LUT on HDMI?
On the Avid page for the DNXIO it mentions '(HDMI) color precision with 3D LUT support'

Trying to understand trade in options of older software
I've been out of touch with AVID for a few years but since my computer went bye-bye I've been forced to purchase a brand new computer and upgrade all my software. I am interested in perpetual MC license option but I have older software (6.0.1) and will take advantage of the trade in that is offered. I am assuming that since the AVID website says it's a 70% savings that it's the equivalent to buying the perpetual license for only $399. Hopefully I'm interpreting this correctly.
The annual upgrade option--is it only for getting upgrades and AVID support? In other words--do I have to have an upgrade plan in order to continue to use my perpetual license? My interpretation is that I could pay for the perpetual license and not have to worry about monthly or annual renewal fees and have the OPTION to upgrade if I choose/have tech support.
Is the production add-on (titler, Izotope, etc) worth it? Is it subscription based or can I add that to my perpetual license? God I miss the days of buying this software on a disc!
