Hi. Problem with MXF files import

Hi. I hope you can help me.I am trying to import mfx files to my project (1080i/50). I think that I need a plugin, because the mxf files appears as 30i NTSC. 1:1 NTSC p. Completely crazy format. I can't see it.

The Mxf files I am importing is HD1080i.

What plugin do I need?

Or is it a setting?

Hope you can help me

Thanks. Sine

Switching from MC First to Ultimate Trial

Hi there,

I recently installed the MC First version and I would like to switch to the Ultimate Trial. It appears as activated in "My products" but I can't find the way to switch it. A quick scan of the forums didn't show any results on the topic, I appologize if it's a repetition!

I am working on Mojave 10.14.6.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Window arrangement in MC 2020.6

Hi everybody,
I'm working on MC for 20 years now but one thing I still don't get is where to determine the exact positioning the several windows. I like the 'floating bin'-option and working with tabs and I adjusted everything that it is convenient for my workflow. But it constantly happens that windows are not where they should be.

I know about saving workspaces, saving bin defaults and Timeline views but none of that really solves the problem.

I would be really glad if someone could enlighten me on this subject.

Thanks!

Lending Media Composer license to my editor

Just purchased a new Media Compiser account for my documentary film editor to use. Other than giving him my system ID and Activation code, what else does he have to do to be able to dowload the system?

How can I export 10-bit uncompressed files from MC2020.8?

That's the question.  How can I export 10-bit uncompressed  archival files from Avid MC2020.8? I'm on an iMac running OS Catalina 10.15.6. I used to do this quite readily in older versions of Media Composer, but in this version it is a problem. I have tried mov, which comes out too small. MXF files are large but I cannot open them in VLC, which gives me the error message,  "unidentified codec." The codec was, I believe some version of DNxHD.  This is important as we are archiving my large collection of video work for preservation purposes.

Thanks,

marluc

Media Composer Notes

  •  MCDEV-11537. If you intend to use full-frame stereoscopic with an Avid Artist DNxIQ, you may want to remain with Media Composer v2018.12.x until the issues with Stereoscopic support are resolved in a future version.
  • (MCCET- 2541) When working with Avid Artist DNxIO or Avid Artist DNxIQ, you should disable the Line In recording input (BlackMagic Audio in the Windows OS).
  • Avid recommends that you do not install Desktop Video software version 10.10.1 on Media Composer versions prior to v2018.5.1
  • Avid Artist DNxIO and Avid Artist DNxIQ: If you are using Avid Artist DNxIO, Avid Artist DNxIQ, or a BlackMagic Designs video device, please update to Desktop Video software version v11.0 or higher. Changed in Media Composer v2020.9

For details on new features, see the What’s New v2020.9 document.

In addition to the new features:

  • Avid has made improvements when displaying Russian in the Media Composer application.
  • Track solo and mute indicators (the S and M icons in the Timeline) are exchanged with AAF. Both the sending and receiving Media Composers must be v2020.9 or later for these track attributes to come across.

What’s Fixed in 2020.9:  The following has been fixed.

  • Bug Number: MCCET-3701. Partially restored media from Archive did not relink to high resolution if Dynamic Relink was set to Highest Quality.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-3661. You could not apply negative vertical offset in Grid Settings.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-3730. When pressing Enter a second time after logging into MediaCentral you were logged out instead of opening the selected project.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-3719. In some instances, the area for resizing a window was smaller than in previous releases making it more difficult to select the window for resizing.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-3680. Timecode Burn-in effect did not always show Clip Notes.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-3658. When working in a Japanese locale, Audio Format characters were corrupted in the OP1a-MXF Mixdown dialog,
  • Bug Number: MCCET-3739. Media Composer used “Take” name for a filename even if the option was disabled when linking wave groups.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-3713. In some instances, exporting XDCAM MXF HD using the Nablet plug-in, using Marks and filler mid sequence, resulted in bad MXF files.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-3715. It was difficult to see what was highlighted or selected when trying to rename a clip in a bin.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-3717. Transparency did not display properly in MOV ProRes 4444 media.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-3741. You might have received a “Target sample is entirely past EOF” error when scrubbing or trimming partially restored media.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-3462. You received Exception errors when closing a bin on a Read-only drive.Limitations7
  • Bug Number: MCCET-3799. With Direct Audio Channel selected, performing a Send to Playback with Dynamic Relink enabled created an audio mixdown.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-3789. Performing a batch export of h.264 XDCAM source media intermittently exported as audio only .mov clips.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-3758. Media Composer crashed after enabling “Live Link” option and overwriting Alpha TIFF files multiple times.
Limitation:  The following are known limitations.

  • Photoshop PSD files are not supported for AMA linking if QuickTime is not installed.
  • Some fonts, by their design, are available only in Bold. On the Mac system, it can happen that    selecting a font does not produce any visual changes. Try selecting “Bold.”
  • If you launch a project and receive an “Enable 3rd Party Emulation” warning, even if you select Enable in the warning dialog, you should also perform the following: Select File > Settings and click the Project tab. Click General Settings and select “Enable Bin Sharing on 3rd party storage emulating Avid NEXIS/ISIS.

  • Bug Number: MCDEV-12964. For a faster performance of export audio/video sequences to .mov in 2020.4, please render the sequence prior to export, or disable the GPU fx (in the Render Settings - Current menu)
  • Bug Number: MCDEV-12735. Maestro graphics do not appear correctly in the Timeline if your system uses the Radeon video card.
  • Bug Number: DEFI-1808. (Media Composer | Distributed Processing) Two clips or sequences will always be created when performing a consolidate or transcode with Media Composer | Distributed Processing.
  • Bug Number: MCDEV-11481. Promoting a title from the Title Tool application to Avid Titler+ cannot be performed if it includes a motion adapter.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-11796. Larger than 10 bit DPX files might fail to link correctly.Workaround: Go to File > Settings and click the User tab. In the Link Settings, click the Link Options tab and make sure Alpha Channel is set to Ignore.
  • Bug Number: MCDEV-11430. Media Tool ignores the “Current project” filtering option and lists media files that are not associated with the current project.
  • Bug Number: MCDEV-11197. In some instances, the Interleave option might not appear in the Export As dialog box. If you are performing an Export using the Avid Media Processor, the Interleave option should appear when you choose Stereo, 5:1, or 7.1 Audio.Workaround: If it does not appear, briefly toggle back to the Mono setting, then toggle to Stereo Mix once again. Doing so should reveal the Interleave option.
  • Bug Number: MCDEV-8641. (AMD Graphics). Systems with AMD graphics cards might display tearing when performing Full Screen playback.
  • Bug Number: MCDEV-9269. (Media Composer | Cloud) After performing a remote download operation on a sequence containing AVC-I 100 remote media, the downloaded media appears as XAVC-I 100. Workaround: Download the entire master clips.

ReadMe:   The new ReadMe has been uploaded to the Knowledge Base Media Composer 2020 Documentation page at launch.

Bug: Color picker on floating palate locks up application

Steps:

1. Create new Title+ title

2. Add a new text layer (layer 1)

3. Select single text item from the block of text

4. Try to change face color from effects window palate - double click on color swatch.

5. Color changes. Great! Let's try that again...

6. Select another text item and attempt to change color on its face.

7. Select (double click on color swatch) in the floating palate.

8. At this point, either the color does change or nothing happens. BUT NOW... trying to close any window or use any function becomes impossible. All functionality is greyed out.

9. Only way to move forward is to force quit.

Observed:

If I try changing the face color from the Effects control window, that seems to work. I was able to make several color changes before trying to use the color control in the floating palate. I notice that once the system locks up, the cursor appears as the color dropper icon when I hover it over the active effects control window or record side widow. It will display active color information in the small color info window as you move the cursor around, but double clicking doesn't affect any change. Nothing takes.

Expected:

Color controls should work from whichever control set is being used... the effects window or the floating palate.

Notes:

I've observed this problem with the Title+ tool since its introduction. I don't know if it's something specific to my operating system, or if it's related to the controls being split and/or duplicated across two windows. Nevertheless, it seems to have persisted across the most recent builds.

I gotta add that despite this issue, the tool does seem a little snappier. And many thanks to the team for adding a very clear and easy way of centering the text block horizontally and vertically. Slowly but surely, the tool is getting there.

Upgrade to 2020.8 with Symphony option won't play.

After uninstalling and upgrading to 2020.8 with Symphony option, Avid won't play.

I see audio waveforms on audio clips (source side timeline) are cut off...when in the timeline if I play in/out WITHOUT those clips within those marks, the avid plays fine.

Lifting segment also fixes but cutting back in does not help.

Here's the error in the Debugger window that pops up:

Assertion failed: m_pMediaDesc

File: /Builds/workspace/MC/Release_Installer_Git/Mac_Build/coresw/ame/src/msm/AMAMapperAudio.cpp, Line: 35

Here's a screengrab:

Another thread with a different error suggested manually deleting this file:

Applications/Avid\ Media\ Composer/SupportingFiles/CodecToolkit_Config/dfm/dnxpacked.lua

Should I try the same move?

Thanks in advance for a quick reply if you can.

file import error

We have 2 editing systems that are almost exactly alike. The newest one however wont import  any mov or mp4 files or anythign like that. It just dispalys an error. The other editor however can import them.  Also quicktime can play them on both systems. The newest is a clean install. The errror is the file format "***"is not supported for import. The new system can import mxf files ok so its just the other standard formats. What am I missing. I dont see anythign extra on the other editors.

The newest one is runiung the latest updates.

Also the avid support file a case no longer has media compsoer. This needs to be fixed to. Also still no chat support.

Invalid download link when updating AMC using Avid Link

It's the second time this happens to my installation.

At PC boot, Avid Link 2020.6 Win reports for a AMC update, 2020.9 in this case, but if I click on Upgrade an error message appear, somethink like (free translation from italian): "Invalid download link".

The only way I have to upgrade is to download updated release from My Products area.

Lower thirds

I'm a remote asst editor. When I get a new cut from the editor all MC generated title cards and lower thirds are offline.

What's the trick for restoring or should he send a bin with the text layouts?

Thanks

Media Composer no longer offers ProRes export option

Hello,

I'm running Avid Media Composer 2018.12.8 on Mac OS X 10.14.6 on a late-2013 Mac Pro.

I've been running this configuration for a year and a half, intentionally not updating either Media Composer or the OS to ensure stablity.

Recently, however, Media Composer suddenly stopped offering any ProRes formats for export.  I can still export Same as Source (takes much longer!) or h.264 or various other compression schemes.

Media Creation settings still offer ProRes encoding.

I'm not sure what caused this, possibilty allowing FCP X and Compressor to update on the same machine.  How do I fix this issue?

Important |MC 2020.4 | how DNxHD codec MOV files are created!!!!!

Media Composer 2020.4 contains changes to how DNxHD codec MOV files are created.

Per the What’s New Document, to make these files compatible with 3rd party applications as well as previous Media Composer versions a new Avid Codecs package needs to be installed on machines not running Media Composer 2020.4.

These new Avid Codecs are available on the Download Center.

From the What’s New document:

It also means that DNxHD MOV files created using UME will require an updated QuickTime PE/LE codec

package in order to be supported by previous versions of Media Composer and 3rd Party products.

This is something that everyone needs to be very aware of, so they can handle questions about backward compatibility.

Thanks JC Bond for pointing this important note out.

Tape Column

is there no Tape Column in Avid anymore?

i use Avid to check deliverables are correct before sending onto an Edit Assistant, so while i don't need the fully unlocked version i do need to check basics like correct tape column format. would i need to upgrade in order to see this?

Export issues with 20.8-"configure failed"

Yesterday I tried to export a mixdown sequence from 2020.8 as mov 10, Pro Res 4444 and got this error message:Exception: configure failed.  It happened repeatedly everytime I tried to export as mov.  I did not want to export mxf because I cannot open those files ourside of Media Composer. Can someone tell me either what I might be doing wrong, or what I should do that is right for this kind of export? And what "configure failed" means?

Thanks,

marluc

AMA link error CM_LABEL_NOT_UNIQUE

I'm having issues AMA linking some Sony XDCAM footage. Essentially when I AMA link the root folder for a date, I get the error Exception: CM_LABEL_NOT_UNIQUE, tt:2, Inum:1

The avid will then AMA all clips, but skipping clips that are spanned from two cards.

Any ideas?

inserting keyframes on effects track MC 101 Lesson 10

Hi all-

I'm working on a PC, and can't insert a keyframe to save my life.  I've tried other machines, restarting the app and computer, but nothing.  Just trying to complete exercise 10 where we fade a title in and out using keyframes on the Global->Foreground parameter.
