In our software we provide a way how to export/transcode media to MXF/AAF files.
So far we have been using AMT 2.x, but we want to move to AMT 3.x.
However the API has completely changed and it seems that some of the lower level functions disappeared.
Our workflow looks like this:
- read media samples from MOV files (using AVFoundation)
- transcode video samples to DNxHD/DNxHR codec (using libDNxHR)
- write video samples and audio samples to AMT clip (AAF + OP-Atom MXF files for each track + XML) (using AMT)
I was going through the AMT 3.x and I could not find lower-level functions like in AMT 2.x (CreateAmtFile, CreateAmtTrack, …) that would provide this functionality.
The closest thing I could find was SampleBasedToFileBasedConversion, but it seems to work only on samples stored in files with media asset description XML provided.
I could not find a way how to create these file samples and MAD XML from non-Avid files and raw sample data. All examples are for AAFs, MXFs, etc., MediaProcessor throws exceptions when provided with MOV container, so it is hard to find a correct way.
The question is: How can we implement our workflow with AMT 3.x? What do you suggest for transition from AMT 2.x to AMT 3.x?

NEW SYSTEM QUESTION
I am looking to possibly purchase a new computer for running AVID. The one I have has been great, but it's starting to show its age (especially with 4K projects). Here's what I currently have:
Mac Pro (Late 2013)
3 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon E5
64 GB 1866 MHz DDR3
AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB
I use AJA IO4K to monitor video and audio (and sometimes go to tape)
and Promise Pegasus Thunderbolt 2 drives.
I want to stay with MAC. Would I notice an improvement is I purchase a imac pro like this:

Fusion Connect is broken in 2018.7 - Heads up for those upgrading from 2018.5
Apparently the issue is with the Fusion Connect plugin and not, strictly speaking, Media Composer.
I have been told that the folks over at BMD have been notified. I have also escalated this to the BMD support team.
I'm posting this here in the hopes that a heads-up may be helpful to those who are using Fusion Connect with 2018.5 or earlier and are thinking about upgrading to 2018.7 (you might want to hold off until we see an update to the Fusion Connect plugin from BMD).

IPWS GetSegmentsFromComposition (version 3.8) - segment file mob ids and asset system attributes not in sync in some situations

I have recently implemented a workflow that makes use of the GetSegmentsFromComposition method to obtain source asset information for sequences and sub clips checked in to Interplay.
The returned list in the response for this method provides a list of source (clip) asset segments for a composition with associated marks and file mobs that were checked in with the sequence (or sub-clip).
The method allows for a request for a list of system attributes to be returned for each segments clip asset information. What I found is that the video format and current video resolution returned are for the latest version of the asset checked into the DB and NOT what the sequence was created and check in with originally.
For example - check in a sequence that is built from XDCAM video clips. Retrieve the segment information and the file mob for video are for the xdcam media files. The system attribute for video format shows XDCAM. Now... Add a new format to the clips - eg. DNxHD and check-in. When the segments are then retrieved again, the system attributes returned with GetSegmentsFromComposition show DNxHD for the asset format but the file mobs are still XDCAM. (so of mismatched).
I am assuming that this is because the attributes are really for the "latest" asset and that no history is maintained so that the view of the clip asset with GetSegmentsFromComposition matches what the sequence was checked in with. I suspect that if the sequence is rechecked in with DNxHD the new file mobs will be used.
The reason I ask is that I am adding functionality with AMT3 where the MXF and AAF files are needed to work with source clips and media (original and new video format files will exist). In this case the file mobs for the asset used for the sequence don't match the current version of the asset if I use GetLatest to work with the XDCAM media files). I just want to make sure that I am not overlooking something... This may be just the way it is due to information in the DB.
Please let me know if this is not clear or if more information is needed.

Error Message
Just installed latest version of avid. I got this error on launch:
arpt is in use by another application and cannot be used by deck control
Avid crashed. When I launched it again, the error message went away.
Anything to worry about?

Avid Background Services on 2018.8
While it's relatively slow this month, I'm trying to refresh the OS and software on my 3 Mac Avid network, connected to Nexis Pro storage. All Macs (trash can, iMac and laptop) are on approved Mac hardware list.
After a fresh install of MacOS 10.13.6 and Media Composer 2018.8, Avid Background Services is not running consistently between different user profiles. I create Administrator (with admin rights) and Editor (standard, no admin rights) profiles on all machines, and make my freelancers use the Editor account. I am able to successfully start Avid Background Services on the Administrator account (green icon), it will not start on the Editor acocunt (red icon). I've installed this configuration on 2 of my 3 machines now (laptop and iMac) and this issue presents itself on both machines.
I've tried creating a new editor profile with admin rights, and this newly created profile still does not start Background Services. Only logging into the original Administrator profile allows for successful background transcodes, renders, etc.
I'm upgrading from v8.5, where Background Services was also unreliable. I was hoping Background Services would be more stable with this release. When it works, I find it very useful for our workflows, especially transcoding media to our Nexis in the background, allowing us to organize our bins and even work on other projects while it transcodes media in the background. I don't see that many posts about it in the forums, does it generally work well for everyone else? Anyone have any tricks up their sleeves to get Background Services turn green when it goes red? Or does no one bother because it doesn't work for them? Asking for a friend... :)

Background services not working
I’m not able to use background services
the dialogue in my browser explains “local host not found”.
The console in the mediacomposer has the same error “local host not found” and my app manager can’t phone home, (if I use the hotspot on my mobile it can phone home).
I’ve done a separate install of the OS (10.13.3) on a different partition of the system, drive and a fresh install of mediacomposer, and background services work fine.
So back on the main partition of the system drive, I have tried the following;
Complete uninstall and reinstall of mediacomposer
Completely reinstalled the OS
Still have the same probulem with background services!
I think I have inherited a problem from migrating from my previous Mac.
So what is my next step?
Your thoughts much appreciated.

EQ3-7 Band not responsive
Hi,
I am trying to make fine changes to audio tracks by adding the EQ3-7 Band plug-in. However, while I have used this in the past and all has been well, for some reason this time, while it has been added, no difference is being made at all to anything audible. I appreciate that this is a blue-dot effect, but have no idea why I cannot hear any differences to the audio. The intention is to 'roll off' things like wind noise, and, as said, in the past, using this plug-in, it has been quite successful.
Further, I would like to add an attachment here to show a screenshot, but for some reason the Avid Forum is "denying" me access to upload.

RED AMA Plugin v 1.19.0.1000 fails to load on MC 7.0.5 – 7.0.7
I'm stumped on an issue involving the RED AMA plugin. After weeks of searching and coresponding with Avid Support, i'm left puzzled on why some of our Z400's load the plugin and others do not.
Our Z400's are all spec'd identical both in Hardware and Software. We have footage that was shot with a newer RED Cam that requried us to upgrade our RED AMA plugin from v 1.11 to v 1.19.0.1000 on Media Composer 7.0.5 in order for it to AMA properly.
Several of our Z400's have no trouble loading the plugin during the startup of MC. While others fail to load the plugin at all. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well as incrementally stepping through each version of the RED Plugin linked in the version matrix on the RED AMA Plugin support page. I've also tested versions of MC 7.0.5 - 7.0.7. As a last hope effort, I recently reformated one of the Z400's, installing MC 7.0.7 from the ground up and only installing the RED plugin.
I'm unable to determine why the plugin will not load on MC startup. I test to see if the plugin loads by running the "ama_listplugins" command in the console.
Does anyone have experience with this issue or know how to get a verbose log of MC during its startup to see why it is skipping over loading the plugin. No errors are presented when it fails to load the plugin.
System Specs:
Avid Qualified HP Z400, Xeon W3540, 12 GB RAM, Quadro FX
3800, Win 7 SP1
Note:I've also loaded the plugin on non avid qualified laptops and qualified Z800's and it successfully works on MC 7.0.5 - MC 7.0.7 with RED AMA plugin v 1.19.0.1000 on both Windows 7 and Windows 10 even though the Support page annotates that the version requires MC 8.6.

When will MC finally get blending modes like other NLE's . . ?
I've been working in Premier Pro and Resolve for a little while and came back to Avid for a project. The finishing part required adding some 4k Lens Distortions effects. Super easy to do in PP and Resolve. Can't do it in MC. Why? After searching the web, there don't seem to be any viable ways of doing it right in MC - except to buy Boris - but have you seen their prices!?
Blend modes are SO basic. Why after 28 years are they still not included? MC gets lots of dopey little upgrades but often seems to miss out on many of the important basics. It's tiresome . . .

Cloudux20186 own cert install is not working
Hi,
I've faced problem during installation of our new certificate. The problem is: the cert is not populated into the ingress container.
It contains another cert and _not_ the new one. Can someone describe what I need to do to make this work ?
1. I went through the process according to Installation Guide.
2. Searched for the nginx container and checked its content.
Result is on the attached screenshot. (only one is allowed (: )
It is the self siged cert I don't know where it comes from ..

Nasty screen glitch on 2018.8 and AJA Kona 3g

My system is windows 10 / HP Z840 / NVidia Quadro P4000 .
I am using 3rd party i/o = AJA Kona 3g. All the latest drivers and software. I just installed the latest AVID MC 2018.8.
i get an unpleasant screen glitch on the player window, when (and only when) i use the mouse to shuttle through a multicam clip. In normal play mode things are fine. SDI out is fine. when play stops i get the ugly glitch ( see thumbnail) on the player window.
when i resinstall MC 2018.4 this behaviour goes away.
could be like a buuuuug! maybe ...

Locked out of Media Composer, expired subscription.
Currently I'm unable to open my copy of Media Composer. Had an annual subscription that expired in Feb of 2017. The deal was that I could continue to use that version of MC forever, and I did in fact keep using it for a while afterwards. However, tried to fire it up the other day and got the whole activation dialogue. App manager hung up/wouldn't initialize or connect to my account so I uninstalled and reinstalled. Now it connects, but that hasn't helped. It still has all my details (system id and activation id, symphony option, etc) in the licensing tab, but when I try to activate it tells me my subscription must be renewed.
That wasn't the deal! I never upgraded MC after my subscription expired, so I should be able to access MC, right? How can I use this software I paid for?
I gotta say, this system is a real hassle!
(Contrary to my username, I've been using Avid for about 10 years now)

MC to premiere / After Effects
we need to transfer edits from Media Composer 8.2 / 8.6 to Premiere and finally After Effects CC17/14for Compositing,
Right now we export AMA Files XAVC Mxf.
we've tested a lot with aaf files as embedded, or media files folders, or transcoded, or consolidated - every possible opportunity - without solid success.
simple sequences - without any effects showed up as missing files, cant be linked to the media, often audio clips maybe 8seconds log showed up in premiere 6seconds, rest 2sec missing from the clip,
Anyone success in transfering -simple- Avid Sequences to Premiere? Someone using programs like Automatic Duck?

Live Timeline – two requests
Forgetting about my waveform woes with live timeline, I have two ideas that I think would make it much more functional.
1) Allow the marker window to pop up while still playing. I remember in the days of yore when we had to digitize from tape, I was able to make makers and type notes as I watched the video loading. I would love a return to this functionality. I know I can actually make a marker and type in the marker panel while playing the live time-line, but I want to be able to just hit the marker button and start typing – logging footage essentially.
2) Script-Sync should interrupt live-timeline. When I double click on a script, Avid goes to that point in the clip so I can then play it. Now with live-timeline it does nothing if I'm playing. This is a loss of functionality, not a gain. Obviously if I'm clicking over and over again on the script, I want the Avid to respond and not to keep playing and making me hit extra buttons to do something that used to work with one double-click.

Constant crashing due to "No running thread"
I've been getting the following error message about 3-4 times a day for the past couple of weeks.
Exception: std::exception, what:[MainThread] Threads::SendMessageAndWait: No running thread to receive message PlayLoopThread kStopCommand
I can't quit when it happens -- have to force quit -- and lose everything after whatever the previous save was. Needless to mention, I'm saving a lot these days.
Any ideas on what causes this and how to fix it?
Media Composer: 2018.7.1 (latest version)
iMac 5K Retina - late 2015.
4 Ghz i7
32 GB RAM
AMD Radeon R9
Same error with two drives. First I used an older G-Raid 4 TB drive running over USB.
Now using new 8TB G-Raid running over Thunderbolt.
Would love some ideas on how to fix, this is not fun to deal with every day.

Sys_Error status:87 on attempt to decompose or transcode
I am trying to send my AMA project to Audio for finish and this requires a Transcode and consolidation. When iI attmpt to do so I get the SYS_Error status:87 The parameter is incorrect 18.4.48530.
I don't seem to get any hits searching this.
