Love the new live timeline feature.
(Can I say ‘About time!’?)
But I am stunned this doesn’t apply to audio mixer adjustment.
I mean you could, for quite a while, click on the mixer and hit play and adjust a track.
But why can’t you, in the middle of playback,
realizing an audio track needs a little nudge,
just click on the mixer and adjust a fader without it stopping?
What was this simple thing not added to the new feature?

Does anyone know of a good tutorial on outputting using sourve browser. I'm so confused as to the process I don't want to I don't know where to begin. So far I have messages ranging from cannot export GOP messages to my drive is locked and now I'm getting strange adapter icons and just now when I tried to export it my media is offline. I 'm showing an active read and write drive which has 48 gigs of memory on it so I don't see how it can be offline. I think I need a basic tutorial in using source browser correctly.

When I apply the Timewarp effect to a video track, I am able to speed it up, but the clip apears to be the same length in the Timeline, so editing in conjunction with other tracks is difficult. Is there a way to make the Timeline reflect the actual playback length?
I created a new seqence and loaded a clip into the preview window. I then added IN/OUT markers and spliced the selected footage into the timeline. I then promoted the motion effect to Timewarp. When increasing the speed, the frame that is now shown is actually the last one in the preview window, well past the end of the out marker I used to splice. Why is it that the Timewarp effect is pulling from the preview window? I unhighlighted the preview window channel in the timeline when adding the effect. It would seem that what I see in the timeline isn't necessarily what I'm editing. What am I doing wrong here? I just want to speed up the selection in the timeline.

How can I make it to be a dongle Version?
And where can I get a new blank one?
It is suppost to run on my desktop (Win7) and my laptop (WinVista).
Had it happen a couple of times last week, but a restart of MC fixed it, but today across both suites that 2018.7 is installed, we cannot save a title at all. Have rebooted too.
Open Title tool, create title, goto save, pop up dialog shows, type name, click save, it goes back to title tool and nothing is saved in the bin.
Same for save and save as.
Is there a title tool config to reset anywhere?
I've just renewd my avid subscription for a year, but when I look at my account I have an activation code but no dongle updater link. What do I do?

Hello all-
One of the 2.5" system drives in an Isis 5000 chassis has failed, and according to the documentation, the failed drive can be swapped without shutting down the server.
The problem is, I'm not sure how to positively identify the failed drive on the back of the chassis.
The two slots are labeled 'HD0' and 'HD1'.
The 'Intel Rapid Storage Technology' software that manages the RAID identifies the two drives as 'Port 0' and 'Port 1'. Unfortunately, the 'Activate port LED' feature doesn't seem to work, so there's no way to correlate the port number in the software with the physical drive in the chassis.
I'd prefer not to shut down the server and pull both drives. Can anyone confirm the location of 'Port 0' and 'Port 1' in the server chassis?

Media Composer First will load plug-ins that are and are NOT entitled through Application Manager, in order to identify them all, and find out if they are usable.
It is possible that a system could crash on launch - on a plug-in that Media Composer | First is NOT entitled to use. Those plug-ins would still need to be updated to prevent the crash - so the user woud need to identify the offending plug-in(s) and contact the vendor for an update.
We have only identified Air plug-ins as the ones triggering the crash at startup, but we don’t know for sure if there are others.
Plug-ins on the Avid Marketplace should all be safe.

While the ability to link XAVC-S is good, there are still some issues in the area of metadata support. Particularly timecode. All clips linked using the Avid Generic plug-in are coming in with a start time of 00:00:00:00, and the durations are all 1 frame off (low). This makes it impossible to relink existing wrapped clips (which use the Quicktime library) for the XAVC-S clips. I haven't had a chance to check for other MP4 based clips, but I suspect it will be the same.

I have been reading threads from 11 years ago about trying to get the video quality button at the botom left of the timeline to default to full greeen as opposed to half green half yellow. The thread from 2009 spoke of trying to do it using toolsets but also said how it was irregular and changed from project to project. I want it always to default to full green for offline editing for use with our DNX 36 HD footage. Please note I understand there are certain instances with multicam clips where you cannot show grouped clips in the play monitor in full green without special harware.
Has Avid created a way to do it since 2009 ?

I recently updated to 8.9.4. There seems to be a new way that segment mode operates in the timeline by dynamically showing what will happen with your clip as you move it. I sort of see how this might be useful, but I often place my blue indicator (or a mark in or mark out) where I want to move a clip to and use that as a guide. It's impossible to do that now. I'm moving lots of clips that look fairly similar so even with showing head and tail frames of the new location it's more confusing than if I could just drag to a fixed spot that I've marked as the correct place. Is there a timeline or segment drag setting to fix this? I can't find anything about it anywhere. Thanks!

The new 2018 Macbook Pro's are out with 10.13.6 and will NOT work with Media Composer 2018.7.1.
Usually the user will get the following error " 'Exception: std::exception, what: Failed to change priority"
We are aware and hardware engineering is testing these machine's and once completed, they will be added to the qualified list.
Until that time, everyone be advised that we don’t support these machines yet.

In case anyone is having this problem - or for those people doing a frantic Google search:
If your TitleTool objects, buttons and text boxes all "stick" to your mouse pointer. If you cannot make changes or add elements to TitleTool, there is a conflict with RightZoom and TitleTool. RightZoom is a wonderous utility*, but has an awkward exclude function. To get your TitleTool to behave properly with Avid's TitleTool, open RightZoom, Click on the Applications tab and then launch:
Avid Media Composer > AvidMediaComposer.app > Contents > Plugins > AvidTitleTool
In RightZoom, click on the + button on the lower "Exclude" area (confusing labeled: "Enable RightZoom in all applications, but not in Exclusions:") and you will see TitleTool as an option. You cannot add apps to the "Exclude" list unless they're running.
Hope this spares someone a few hours of frustration.
*Mac changed how the green window button on Mac's windows behaves in El Capitan. Instead of just zooming out to fill the available space - it now goes to fullscreen mode and hides the menu bar, which can be incredibly disruptive. To make it behave the "old" way (zoom out, don't hide the menu) you have to hold the <alt> key down when clicking on the green button. RightZoom just makes it behave the normal way again so you don't have to hold a key to maximize the window.
So we've been working on a project recently for which we have a lot of footage in the XAVC Intra codec 3840x2160 in a quicktime wrapper (.mov) Our workflow usually involves AMA'ing footage into MC and transcoding to dnx36 for offline edit. For finish we re-link to AMA original clips and transcode to 1920X1080 ProRes422HQ. For some reason with these XAVC clips, I can't transcode to any 10 bit codecs within Media Composer (DNX 175x, ProRes422HQ, etc). It will allow me to transcode to DNX175 or any flavor of DNX below. I've also found that when I toggle the video quality menu on the AMA'd clips I can view them in yellow / green and green, but when I toggle to green 10bit the image becomes a distorted green and pink mess. This is also what clips look like when I try to transcode to 10 bit. I initially thought that I simply had outdated ama plugins installed. I unistalled legacy sony plugins and installed all the most current nablet plugins. This had no effect. I later discovered that in the source browser it's actually the quicktime ama plugin that is being used, not the nablet and I confirmed that I have, AFAIK, the current quicktime AMA plugin that installed w/ media composer as well as the Apple ProVideo Formats. I've seen other threads on this topic, but none that seems to answer my particular question. I've worked around this limitation by sending an AAF of the linked ama clips out to resolve and transcoding this way, but it's quite the PITA. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
It make NO SENSE to have to step in to a clip with multiple effects to do symphony color correction with the symphony interface! ALLOW US TO OPEN THE SYMPHONY COLOR CORRECTION TO ADJUST THE COLORS!
I am very glad that a lot of folks are happy that the live timeline is now available. I know it's a work in progress but it definetly is clear that a lot of folks are happy that Avid is finally breaking ground on this front.
That being said, I never really wanted it and it's kind of interfearing with my flow of how I am used to working. I know, I know, 'Adapt or Die' right?! Sure, but it would be really nice if there were some options to customize how many "live-timeline" options you want turned ON. Is this possible to be able to toggle these options in future versions cause right now it's just manditory ALL ON, right? I would take an all or nothing ON/OFF switch but breaking it down to a few different flavors of live would be extra awesome because maybe, just maybe, I see SOME advantages ;)

Hi, running MC 2018.3 with symphony. I have a sequence that has been working fine when matchframing multigroups...they open the multigroup. Now that I applied color corrections they are matchframing back to the groups that make up the multigroup instead of the multigroup. This machine was running 8.8.5 when I noticed this happening so thought maybe 2018.3 might have fixed it but the problem persists. Is this a known bug?
Two other pieces of info:
Matchframing via the audio tracks opens the multigroups, btw. So it's something that's happening to the video. Also, if i remove the color correction, the problem persists. So the color correction definitely does something to the multigroup in the sequence.
I've installed and updated everything. When I try to launch the app I get an error message: "this program not supported under VM instances" However, I have no VM running. It's regular Windows 10 on my SurfaceBook2.
Hyper V is not running either. Any ideas?
Doesn't make me want to buy the full app if this is how it runs. Thanks!
But it gets more perplexing.
If I want to sort that order I have to close the project entirely and reopen it.
Not the bin. The whole project.
And it gets better.
It still sorts it in the order it was entered but now in reverse.
It gets even better.
If I want to sort that menu alphabetically I have to sort the column (command-E) and close the project and re-open.
But…now they are sorted in reverse-alphabetical (!).
So…

Completely nuts.
I would expect there should be
A) a simple way to refresh the registry.
B) a simple way to sort the registry
C) a simple way to modify the registry
D) a default of alphabetical sorting
None of this involving closing and opening the bin or the project.
When I tried looking this up on Google I got dozens of examples on how to do this in Excel..
So my thinking is, if you can do it in a basic spreadsheet…
Or maybe there is a way to do it!
Maybe it’s just eluded me all these years.
