continued issues

I finally installed the correct version of Avid onto my laptop, only to encounter more issues.

I'm trying to import files from my harddrive onto the version of Avid I have. Whenever I do anything, this message appears:

"File couldn't be loaded into source monitor."

The files I have should be compatible with the version of Avid I downloaded. What issue is Avid encountering that it can't let me open my files? Is there any way I can fix this?

XAVC Intra codec in quicktime (.mov) wrapper AMA trouble

So we've been working on a project recently for which we have a lot of footage in the XAVC Intra codec 3840x2160 in a quicktime wrapper (.mov) Our workflow usually involves AMA'ing footage into MC and transcoding to dnx36 for offline edit. For finish we re-link to AMA original clips and transcode to 1920X1080 ProRes422HQ. For some reason with these XAVC clips, I can't transcode to any 10 bit codecs within Media Composer (DNX 175x, ProRes422HQ, etc). It will allow me to transcode to DNX175 or any flavor of DNX below. I've also found that when I toggle the video quality menu on the AMA'd clips I can view them in yellow / green and green, but when I toggle to green 10bit the image becomes a distorted green and pink mess. This is also what clips look like when I try to transcode to 10 bit. I initially thought that I simply had outdated ama plugins installed. I unistalled legacy sony plugins and installed all the most current nablet plugins. This had no effect. I later discovered that in the source browser it's actually the quicktime ama plugin that is being used, not the nablet and I confirmed that I have, AFAIK, the current quicktime AMA plugin that installed w/ media composer as well as the Apple ProVideo Formats. I've seen other threads on this topic, but none that seems to answer my particular question. I've worked around this limitation by sending an AAF of the linked ama clips out to resolve and transcoding this way, but it's quite the PITA. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Motion effect not working

Hi,

Trying to place a motion effect onto a clip that is AMA linked to an AVCHD .mts file, but getting "effect does not apply" or something like that. Why can't I use a motion effect on one of my clips?

Media Composer First, Publishing Error - HELP

Hi anyone, I need help please!

I've been using Media Composer First for about 6 months and it's been going fine. However recently I tried to publish a video to my computer, but whenever I click on any of the publish options I get these two error messages.

It is so frustrating because I have tried other projects and none of them will let me publish either. I don't even get to the publishing settings screen.

I have tried uninstalling all avid and media composer applications and deleting the associated files multiple times, but nothing has worked.

I am using Media Composer First verision 8.9.3 on a MacBook Air

Please does anyone know what I should do? The program is pretty much useless if I can't export anything.

Marquee gone New Blue Titler in?

Hi guys!

I'm finishing up a project and I have a deadline of tomorrow morning, so any help would be much appreciated. I have been using Marquee this whole time, but now when I go to title tool it tells me to get new blue titler. I have no idea how to do that, and I prefer Marquee. So i guess my questions are: how do I get marquee back or if I cant how do I get New blue titler?

Thanks!

MediaCentral Capture 2017.2.x

Dear Avid, After over a year trying to get you to fix a number of bugs in Interplay, and now Mediacentral, Capture I'm ready to throw the towel in the ring. Multiple cases further, bugs being logged, fixes being released that do not fix the problems, new features only being half ready in some beta stage. The new version numbering just being ignored. Anyway...

I have recently setup 6 Glookast servers with Capture 2017.2.4 and the system is basically unusable. Since the introduction of the new API device service that replaces the framework device service Interplay/Mediacentral Capture has lost the ability of correctly determining the status of airspeed and glookast servers. If, for example, a Glookast channel looses a valid SDI signal the system goes into a warning state it never comes out of when signal returns and that channel can't be used to record anymore. You restart the API device service and it all off a sudden become aware it can. If you dare to restart the API device service while some channels are recording you have lost those until you stop all recordings and restart all services again.

L2 support has been providing the help they could but the problem is 100% a development issue. My question is simple Avid: Are you going to put the development resources in to make Capture a product that can actually be used in a broadcast environment again or should we just buy Glookast, MOG or Telestream ingest servers and schedulers and not bother anymore?

A single channel failing requiring an API service restart, which requires you to stop all recordings on all channels is simply not viable.

AMPI Subsystem Error - Permission Denied (13)

Hi all,

Spent a day gradually upgrading from 7.0.4 and hit a wall at 8.4.0 (8.3.1 works fine). Get the above error on start MC, have tried permissions repair and restart, ilok extension manager is the latest version.

I'm on a Macbook Pro late 2013, OS 10.10.5.

Any suggestions, as ever, welcome.

Nick

best preview

I really need an opinion on the folowing topic.

What is the difference between previewing through an AJA io 4k or Blackmagic ultrastudio and preview directly through my minidisplay or HDMI?

Is it the color space, the definition the motion?

I'm using a macbook pro connected to an apple display and a LG ultrawide monitor.

I'll appreciate your thoughts

So far I don't have any dropouts since I'm using DNxHD no greater than 115

mouse drag and drop delay v2018.4

I've used a simple Logitech M100 mouse for years but since moving to AMC version 2018.4 this week, I've noticed a lag in dragging and dropping clips from bin to bin or bin to source monitor.  In AMC 6.5 and below, I could click on a clip and drag it to another bin or to the source monitor without issue.  Now with AMC 2018.4, if I do the same drag and drop action, nothing happens: the clip does not move from bin 1 to bin 2, despite my click and drag and release action that has worked thousands of times prior to this week.  The workaround for me in v2018.4 is to click, wait until I see the ghost icon image of the clip, then commence dragging.  Then it works.   But why?   In Finder, moving files with the similar drag and drop method does not require a wait for ghost icon image before dragging -- I can just click and drag.   This wait for a ghost/outline clip icon to appear before dragging goes against decades of hand/eye/muscle memory Avid usage.   I'm very comfortable with the Logitech M100, but I'm very uncomfortable with how it works in v2018.4.

How do I debug my plug-ins?

Hi, I have the deveper copy of protools 12 (PT_12p4p0x56_3), but it doesn't let be run in a debugger (Windows)

Why is that and how do I get around it please?

Thanks

Dave.

OK....AVID...you done good.

Gotta say, at $20 a month, matching premiere pro....I find the AVID editing interface easier to use, more intuitive and certainly more conducive to long term editing.

It just works after a while.  Once its tweaked with the keyboard, etc....it really becomes second nature easily.

So...Titler Pro and Sorenason are gone at $20 a month, leaving only the regular exports and Marquee....

Have you looked at Marquee lately?...3D extruded text with any font...lights, animation...very nice indeed with only the limitation is, it can't go above HD!

Oh sure, Boris and Titler Pro allow video on the faces of fonts, etc...that's another level...but, at $20 a month and add the Media Composer First product out there to become familiar with trimming, slide and slide, alpha files, etc. at no cost at all...very nice and should be easy to get adopted at schools.

In all, I think AVID has a very nice, mature video editor, that has improved, and is impressive.

Thank you.

Recreate title media

just curious

can anybody tell me the real genious behind the fact that you have to recreate the title media, when getting a sequense from let's say your assistant, who's working on another computer. Same project, same version AVID, same everything, just different computer.

I know when creating a title media you create an MFX on yor local HD that the other guy doesn have on his, but why doesn't AVID not just create those MFX on its own, when you load the timeline and make the already created title medias online?

over time you're getting this stack or recretaed title medias. So tedious to have to clean those up.

Or am I missing some workflow...??

Could not open file because "DISK_LOCKED"

Hello,

Trying to export a long sequence trying different things and now I'm getting above message.  I also have an icon in a clip that looks like a  lock.  Have no idea how it got there.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Live Timeline inconsistency

A couple inconsisntancies when using the Live Timeline and KB shortcuts.

Mainly, you can click on track patch buttons on the interface and the live timeline wont stop playing. BUT, if you hit a KB shortcut for a track patch (like "7" for V1) and the timeline will stop. Seems to me if it works when you press the UI, but not with the KB shortcut thats a bug?

Also happens with markers.

Colors invert when adding to sequence

Hi guys just wanting to fix this, I import images into the Bin and they are displayed correctly there but when I look at them in either source monitor or in sequence the colours are kind of inverted like the hue or something. I checked other projects and they seem to run well with no inversion, and I also uploaded the same file into two different projects and on an earlier project the file is fine but on my new project, the colour is inverted. In the project where the colour is inverted I exported the file and when I play it back on VLC or any other playbacks the colour is back to normal. It is an odd one and I can not seem to find a fix for this anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have attached a screengrab of the problem.

Another drive-archiving question

Hi,

If I have an external hard drive on my computer (call it J) and I transcode material onto it, then later I purchase another external hard drive (call it M) and I transfer the recent transcoding on J over to it, does MC instantly detect the changes with all references in my timeline bins changed, now pointing to the new destination in M?  Do I need to consider anything else?

Thank you,

DC

Custom column quick menu sorting

But it gets more perplexing.

If I want to sort that order I have to close the project entirely and reopen it.

Not the bin. The whole project.

And it gets better.

It still sorts it in the order it was entered but now in reverse.

It gets even better.

If I want to sort that menu alphabetically I have to sort the column (command-E) and close the project and re-open.

But…now they are sorted in reverse-alphabetical (!).

So…

to sort it alphabetically I have to reverse sort the column, close the project and re-open. Voila!

Completely nuts.

I would expect there should be

A) a simple way to refresh the registry.

B) a simple way to sort the registry

C) a simple way to modify the registry

D) a default of alphabetical sorting

None of this involving closing and opening the bin or the project.

When I tried looking this up on Google I got dozens of examples on how to do this in Excel..

So my thinking is, if you can do it in a basic spreadsheet…

Or maybe there is a way to do it!

Maybe it’s just eluded me all these years.

Is there?
