Nitris DX + Media composer often can't see each other

Hi,

I have one Z800 work station out of our suites running MC 5 with a Nitris DX. We often get reports from the editors that when they start the workstation and run Media Composer that at the Initializing hardware part of the Splash screen they receive an error "A required hardware download was not performed".

This is usually resolved by powering down the workstation and bringing it back up again (a cold boot). Just rebooting windows isn't enough. Naturally, the DX is left in standby and is NOT touched, it's bought to life by the PC starting up.

In the past, before I inherited these suites, the DX has been exchanged by Avid and we've received a new one. We have recently upgraded the Z800 from v4 to V5 and still get the problem. We have also started using Interplay after being stand-alone previously.

All that I can put it down to now is that it must be the HIB card or PCI-E Cable (although I've been told that the card has been replaced too in the past). The Z800 has recently been re-imaged with a clean Windows 7 install and a fresh version of Media composer installed. We still get the problem.

This problem doesn’t happen in the other suites...

Any ideas?

I m trying to solve this issue since three days and haven't found a solution yet...please help!!!!

I'm editing on a Mc Book Pro Retina, 2.7 GHZ Core i7 using Avid version 8.9.4 

My footage is Sony : XAVC Intra 100 (HD1080p) 25fps 1920x1080p. I'm using Nablet XAVC_XDCAM_AMA_plugIn_Mac_4.5.2

I can transcode some clips but for others I got the message: Cannot create AMA sample mapper to play this clip...

I really can't figure it out!

 

I hope someone knows what to do!

Media Composer|First, Getting "this program is not supported on VM instances" on my Surface Book laptop

I just downloaded and installed Media Composer|First on my Surface Book laptop running Windows 10, and when I clicked to start the program, I got a popup saying, "This program is not supported on VM instances".  I'm currently not running on a virtual machine, but I do have Hyper-V installed, along with Windows 10 Credential Guard enabled.

Why is MC|F telling me I'm running on a VM when I'm not?  How do I fix this?  Are there any logs I can look at?

Canon C200 raw light workflow question

Hi everybody, maybe anyone here is using a new Canon C200 recording to Canons new RAW light format.

I just recorded a few scenes as a test to a CFast card, installed Canons Raw ligth AMA plugin for Avid..

and wow! i could edit the CRL files natively.

What i dont understand is: while editing the files and color correcting them - do i really chahnge the same values like i could with Canons external RAW light development kit, where i can change white balance and a few more values like for example editing RAW stills in Lightroom.

Does Avid Color correction really work with the raw files? Or would it be better for me the go through the C-Raw Light development kit?

What is the best way and how are you guys working with CRL files?

Best way to handle this interlacing issue?

Apparently I did this wrong from the start and need to know how to fix it for now (and next time).

720p project with lots of AMA'd SD interlaced footage, edited already.

When the project is switched to 720x480 30i, to deinterlace, there are bad interlacing artifacts when exporting tests, with and without a mixdown.  (Yes the timeline was refreshed and the source is registering correctly as interlaced).  Same problems in QT export (DNXHD) with deinterlacing checked.

The mixdown doesn't deinterlace.

When TImewarp is put on the clip (setting is both fields, interlaced to progressive), I get stepping and a somewhat soft clip.With hundreds of clips in a two hour project, 3/4 of them interlaced, I'm also wondering if it's practical to apply an effect like that.

What's the best way to approach this?  I have searched this extensively online and am still lost as to a solution for fixing this in a long, already edited, AMA'd project. 

The project is going to DVD, so my next step is to see if the interlacing shows up on a burned DVD.  But I will have to output digital files as well.

This project is almost done.  So close.

Nitris DX driver problem

This is weird.

Just totally reinstalled my computer, clean Win10pro an Avid version 8.10 with Nitris DX driver 5.9.0

When I startup Avid for the first time, it says

"This build of the app requires a different Avid DX driver than you have installed" 

then thereis a Button with a "update" option.

Great... of course I click on the "Update" button.

and then it says "The system cannot find the file specified."

Now I can click on a "Proceed" button

And Yes I do that.

Then this pops up "The AvidDX version you have loaded is 5.9.0.0, This version of the application works with driver versions in the range of 5.9.2.0->5.9.x.x"

And now I can only "QUIT"

Then i was checking for a new driver at Avid's driver download site, But the latest driver is 5.9.0 ????????

 

It is NOT making any sense for me.

 

Am I mising somthing or

is Avid refusing to use Nitris DX before it has installed a driver that doesn't exist yet.

(Maybe I was at the wrong Driver download site, if there is other)

 

Please help if you see a solotion for this problem :-)

issues with relinking older files

I'm working in a newer project set up in HD 1080 but need to access older files that were set up as dailies in an older project.  this older project was set up on a different version of media composer from a different computer, and the files are probably not in the same format.  When I try to re-link the files, which are offline, I check all the boxes so that it might accept a wide range of material and options, but once I submit, the computer doesn't even seem to think about it, it directly tells me that it can't do it.

In other versions of media composer (i'm working off the newest one, rented month to month), it would ask where to find the media if it couldn't automatically connect.  I don't see that option here beyond what drive to select.

Can anyone help?

Sony XAVC pixelation when AMA linking

Hi all,

An issue that's been plaguing me all year. When AMA linking Sony XAVC media from an FS7 or FS5, the highlights and shadows on the image have obvious pixelation and banding. If I open the media in Premiere, Da Vinci or even Catalyst Browse, these areas are crystal clear. But in Avid it looks horrible.

I've tried multiple versions of Avid, now working with the latest version. Latest version of Nablet plug-in. Same thing. Some times it's more obvious than others, but it is there without fail.

At first I thought it was an S-log issue (Avid interpreting it wrong), but I've tried standard picture profile media and it's the same problem.

The only way round it is to open the media in Browse, rough grade it then render to a ProRes, and then AMA link that in Avid. ProRes always comes in clean.

It's a real issue as I'm not able to grade any of the original media in Avid.

Please advise if any of you are having the same issue. Cheers.

Updating to Windows 10 professional- Is it worth it?

I just bought a new CPU for my edit system to get ready for some 4K coming my way.  It came loaded with Windows 7 which is what I use now and is stable and dependable.  It also came with a windows 10 pro update.  

I'd really like to hear from anyone using windows 10.  Do you like it?  Is it stable?  Up side?  Down side? 

I've searched the forums and can't find a thread that discusses this issue at all, but I can't help to think that someone must have some opinion!

Hi, I'm trying to log into the Application Manager on MC First, and have got this message:

 

'We are unable to sign you in. Looks like Avid servers have outage. Please try again.'

 

Does anyone know what's happening, or when it might be sorted out?

Why am I unable to change my user profile?

All I get is a spinning circle when I click on the "Edit my Profile" under Options. Sometimkes the circle stops spinning and all I get is a completely blank white screen!

Has been like this for at least 6 months now!

Audio ducking fails on export

I have a project that sounds great on in MC First program, but when the file is exported the volume in the 3rd audio channel remains static.  The keybands created from ducking for the background music seem to be overlooked in the export process.  Has anyone else noticed this?

Airspeed 5500 issue

Dear experts, I need your help. 

On last Sunday, I restarted my airspeed 5500 and the system report this message :

"BMC Responding.

Front side bus mismatch. System halted.

System halt.."

I waited for 15 minutes and finally, the system booted to windows. I use Health Monitor tool to check the airspeed and the system report 03 Media disk Fail. 

 

Now, I can transfer Sequence to the airspeed but when I playout video, the image is stalled, not smooth.

Media Composer First, Publishing Error - HELP

Hi anyone, I need help please!

I've been using Media Composer First for about 6 months and it's been going fine. However recently I tried to publish a video to my computer, but whenever I click on any of the publish options I get these two error messages.

It is so frustrating because I have tried other projects and none of them will let me publish either. I don't even get to the publishing settings screen.

I have tried uninstalling all avid and media composer applications and deleting the associated files multiple times, but nothing has worked.

I am using Media Composer First verision 8.9.3 on a MacBook Air

Please does anyone know what I should do? The program is pretty much useless if I can't export anything.

Match Frame on clip in timeline -- XAVC 4K Intra Class 300 (3840x2160) -- does nothing.  Doesn't load clip into source monitor... Any advice? Help?

I just bought an Avid support code, I am having problem

launching the MC 8.10 i am supposed to use on this editing gig i just started,

there is no technical support at this company, so it's up to me basically.

I just needed phone help on this MC software but now (after my Visa payment went through)

I still haven't received The Code in question.

What I am missing and cant I get reimbursed if I don't use it.

This is turning into a mini-nightmare

Also, I am presently in Germany so the phone contact for Avid here is basically

basic.

Pinnacle Studio 20 Video Time Lapse

Hi all,

There may be a thread for this somewhere but if there is I cant find it so feel free to shoot me a link. I have recently purchased Pinnacle Studio 20, my past Studio version, Studio 14 had a way of being able to 'Subdivide' video clips into multiple (evenly timed) sections to then delete some etc etc to create a time lapse. In short, I cant find this function to subdivide a clip into multiple scenes anywhere in Pinnacle 20. Can someone help me with that one?
