Due to iLok problems with MC 8.6.4 I upgraded to MC 8.8. using the Applicaton Manager. However, the iLok problem remains. PACE License Support Win 64 Version 3.1.3. (included in MC 8.8 installer) was not installed.
So I deactivated MC 8.8, deinstalled MC 8.8, "License Support" and "Interlok driver setup x64" as advised here: http://community.avid.com/forums/p/122828/706750.aspx#706750
(deinstalling "License Support" was only possible using Revo Uninstaller). Then I installed and activated the download version of MC 8.8.
Result: When starting MC 8.8, error message says the necessary software for validation of the product is not running, I should first install iLok license manager.
I downloaded and tried to install PACE License Support Win64_v3.1.4_r36376 from www.ilok.com (the only available version, however v3.1.3 would be needed). An error message says "Your Windows System needs updates to run this software. 1603 fatal error during installation". I updated Windows 7, not all of 24 updates could be installed.
Then I began the whole process from the beginning. Nothing helps.
I'm really stoked on this Nvideo 1080 Ti that's out today;
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/10series/geforce-gtx-1080-ti/?ncid=em-ded-gc27-8716
$699... I thought they'd ask for more. I'd love to see what the newer versions of Avid can do on this.
Please help, i've watched a couple of tutorials, but I think I'm looking at the wrong ones... Yikes!!!!
Using paint (clone) to blur license plate on a vehicle as the actor runs by it. The clone of the fender looks good, but I'm doing something wrong with the tracking part of it.
I have mc 8.7.2 - the clip has two vehicles in it. Actor running by both. Trying to blur the license plate with a clone of the fender. I select clone, then square shape. Make the shape, put it over the license plate, then add trackers (two). I used the fluid tracker option.
(I tried the correlation tracker first, but the clone shape moved a lot.)
I put the two trackers just above the licence plate location, one to the left, and the other to the right.
I started tracking with the fluid tracker option.
The clone shape didn't stay in place. I tried using keyframes. For some reason I can't get how to use keyframes when animating or things are moving.
Is there something I'm missing? Please help.
Thank you.
can AMC import 1920x1080i m2t files? thanks to any reply in advance.
Hello all,
I have recieved external audio used in a studio recording as WAV's which should cause no issues. However when grouping the external audio to the ISO cameras it puts all the WAV's on Audio Track 1 which i can toggle the source on. The edit has requested that the WAV's be on different tracks (21 in total) and I'm wondering if there's a way that this can be set in the grouping process so they aren't all on Audio Track 1!
Many thanks,
Joe

Original project was P2HD clips AMA linked to project and then transcoded to SD. How do I now relink these old sequences to the original HD clips?
I've tried deleting the media with the master clips and re-link - it doesn't find the new clip. Tried relinking the sequence to the HD material after AMA/consolidate of it into a new bin.
I must be missing something. any suggestions?
Hi there
I have just done one thing over the years regarding setting up my projects and not strayed.
When I create a projest I leave the color space on YCbrCr 709.
Because I used to do a few TV commercials the color space worked but I just kept on using it for all my media which now basically is just for the web. Correct me if I am wrong but is all the content on the web using the full color space?
I am asking this because a client is asking for certain specified colors on his web video and I am now questioning my workflow. I guess if someone askes for a particular color and gives me the values I guess I would have to go to a full color space to accuratly represent them.
Does RGB 709 show the full color Space? or do I just adjust the Clip Low - Clip High slider in the Controls tab in the color corrector?
Any help would be appreciated.
Is there anyway to create a LUT in MC 8.3.1's Color Correction tool, I want to match some multicamera footage and thought if I could match them with CC effect, save as LUTs, and then assign the LUTs to the source settings I would have a flexible workflow which could be globally altered if my original settings were off.
The other way is to apply settings to the source files (AMA or imports). This way would help with color correction and other effects like invert for those unavoidable upside-down shots.
Thank you, Richard
I've been using Media Composer a long time and the good 'ol title tool seems to have reached it's limit and is not very functional anymore and unusable in higher resolution projects. So I downloaded and started to use the free Avid supplied New Blue Titler 2 plugin. I have to say I've been less than impressed. It's not very intuative, especially when a quick and simple lower third with a drop shadow is all that's reqired. I have to say I am a bit envious of Premier Pro's tight integration with After Effects.
I was curious to see if others have been able to embrace NBT-2 or have you had to pay several hundred dollars to purchase the later version (4 or 5) that is hopefully better?
Please feel free to share you thoughts, tips or work-a-rounds.
When i import a multi audio MOV file the timeline is different than the original file.
Audio (MOV) A1 is on (Timeline) A2, (MOV) A2 is on (Timeline) A3 and the rest i did not test....
So my handmic moves to channel number A2... But its recorded on A1.
Tested on 8.4 8.72 and 8.8. (MAC)
Any ideas?
Peter
Hi guys,
just instaled and entered AMC 8.3.0. into my my macbook. Text inside bins and topic-fonts ("Bins, Volumes, Settings..") are badly blurry. Same with MC loading window, white text is distorted. Is this becouse MC can't handle retina, as some posts suggested? Font softening in the setup dosn't do the trick. The font that is on when I open MC is Apple emoji. But if I change the font from the menu to different, it keeps the problem. Some submenus come out sharp thou, like presets and edit timebase in format menu. Other graphs like buttons are sharp also.
Does anyone know way around to help MC to settle into it's new home?
:)
Hi,
I am currently upgrading my hardware and am looking at building a PC from the ground up. I will be working mostly HD but also will have several projects originating on 4K. I also do a fair amount of Adobe After Effects work along with Premiere Pro and Adobe Encoder. I'm looking to build the system with an internal raid for media.
Below is a link to the build with parts picked out. Looking for comments and suggestions.
https://pcpartpicker.com/user/MoonFartFlam/saved/8XfkLk
1. Should I wait to see what NVIDEA has to offer in a few weeks with the new P series graphic card?
2. On the internal raid will I be better off using a pcie raid controller card or will the onboard raid conroller on the Supermicro MOBO suffice?
3. According the the MOBO specs it will support Thunderbolt 2 technology. Does anyone have any experience with pcie thunderbolt cards and performance.
Any other info or comments are welcome.
Thanks
John
I try to (multi)group footage from just two cameras. And it's not working.
Situation (which seemed perfect for me!)
- I only need to group the video clips (no audio) from 2 cameras (both Canon EOS DSLRs)
- Synced TC (coming from 2 Tentacle Sync boxes) was recorded on the audio tracks of both cameras
- This TC information is correctly displayed in the Aux TC 1 column. The value in the column Start TC is 00:00:00:00 for every clip
- CamA recorded about 20 clips (mostly about 10 min long), CamB recorded 60 clips (about 10" each, with a lot of gaps in it)
- The clips of the two cams have totally different start and end points (documentary)
- 1080p/25 project, MPEG-4/AVC/25p footage
What I tried
- Throw all clips in one bin, select all >group clips. Not working
- Same with >multigroup. Not working
- Then I tried the same with only one 10 min clip from CamA and the 7 clips from CamB in the same TC range. The first 3 clips grouped correctly, the rest was ignored.
- BUT if I only grouped these last 3 clips, they grouped correctly!
- I tried these steps with both, AMA linked media and transcoded media (DNx185)
- I reproduced this behaviour in a new project & new user
- Aux TC seems to be correct, I tested a few clips from CamA and CamB, and they matched
Then I used the TENTACLE SYNC STUDIO software to create a sync map - and this worked!
The very friendly support people from Tentacle told me that this is simply an Avid problem.
So, my question is:
What could cause these problems?
I had more or less no multicam problems in the past, but I didn't do a lot of multicam work.
IF Avid is the problem here it would be very important for me to know - regarding future jobs!
TIA

I have footage with TC (coming from sync boxes) recorded onto the audio tracks.
Now I'm going to
>Menue >Special >Read Audio TC
In the new window I have the option to check User Bit Timecode.
I'm not sure what this is doing...?
Hello,
There is a known bug with Media Composer Version 8.6 to 8.7 - if you try to create an Ultra HD 59.94p project using Blackmagic Desktop Video 10.7 or above on a Windows machine, you will get an error message and the system becomes unstable and crash. I wanted to find out if any other Avid users were experiencing the same problem. The bug has been logged and I hope Avid fixes it soon.
Thanks,
Asaf
I guess I'm a fairly experienced Avid editor but I've just upgraded to 8.8 and my usual approach of right-click sequence and relink to create a new sequence linked to the original media is just not working. It just says 'no clips were relinked'. The drive is mounted, I'm relinking by source name and I can view all my AMA clips in a second bin from which I originally transcoded the footage. But I can't seem to get Avid to make the link.
As this is such a basic workflow, I figured it would be easy to find tutorials for this but there's nothing post Avid 7 as far as I can see. Has this basic step changed?
Sorry for asking such a simple question..
I keep hoping a new Avid update will solve this problem, but I just upgraded to 8.8.4, and nothing has changed. When I'm in YCbCr 709 color space, my source/record monitors go into a hideous purple/green look. If I switch to RGB, everything looks fine, but I don't want to work in that. I have a BlackMagic DeckLink Mini Monitor attached, which I think is when this all started. But the monitor I have hooked up to it via HDMI looks fine in both color spaces. Is there a setting within Avid that I need to change that I don't know about?
