When I was running MC 6.5 on Mavericks, and I wanted to import music from iTunes, I was able to open the IMPORT window and select MUSIC from the sidebar and see my iTunes library. In addition I was able to see playlists and easlily select the songs I wanted to import. Now after an upgrade to 7.0.5 and Yosemite, when I go through the process, I get nothing. MC is telling me iTuens needs to be open to see the songs (see attachemnt) and iTunes is... but I can't see my iTunes library anymore. I'm looking for any tips to get this back working. As a note, my iTunes library is on an exteranl drive.

Will my BIOS stop me from upgrading to Windows 10...
Hi there Aviderrrz,
I have an ageing HP Z400 for which I want to upgrade the BIOS and also the OS. When checking HP's website for the latest BIOS version and checking the Operating Systems tab I see various mentions of XP, Vista, Win7 but no mention of Win 8 or Windows 10.
I'm currently on Win 7 Pro.
My question is, will upgrading to Win 10 break my workstation as the OS is not on HP's BIOS list? I don't believe it will and HP's website even says "This package contains the System BIOS image and local and remote BIOS flash utilities for the HP Z400 Workstation. These utilities can be used to restore or update the System BIOS. System BIOS is operating system independent.". I'm guessing this means there won't be a problem but I got thrown by the list of OS' above it and wanted to double check with smarter people than myself.
Any thoughts or insights/experience welcome.

Avid randomly shutting down
Hi, problem with Avid shutting down randomly. One PC has just started doing this - I thought it was just on a particular project that got corrupted but it seems it's a general problem. It's had this error for a couple of weeks - I updated from Avid 8.4 to the latest 8.5.3 to see if that help, but it didn't.
Normally it just shuts down with a windows error message of 'Avid editor has stopped working' but this morning I got this error code:

Googling it doesn't return any results. It would seem to be something to do with quicktime but it has a fresh install of the correct quicktime version. I tried the recommended Nvidia drivers but then my composer window wouldn't display properly so I have now rolled back to 347.52.
Might to do with quite an old GPU (Quadro FX5500) I guess...? I'm about to update to Win 10 anyway so might try removing Avid completely and reinstalling, unless any has a fix for this?

Let's Make the Next MediaMover or MDV
Hello Everyone,
I think native, flexible media managementis lacking in Avid. "Have you tried Media Tool?", you might ask. Here's my problem with Media Tool - it's not easy to use. For example:
1. An Assistant Editor finishes logging, then wants to transfer the project to an Editor. He'll bundle up the assets in one folder, grab the Avid project folder, and send them over to the Editor. Might be over the network (peer-to-peer) or through sneaker net.
2. An Editor finishes his project, and wants to do a backup. Same as before - he'll bundle up the assets, grab the Avid project, and store them on backup drives.
3. We produce events that require last-minute changes. Plus, there's on-location editing that requires gathering assets from multiple users. So bundling all the assets you need before traveling is critical. Hotel networks aren't built for large file transfers.
For years, the alternatives were MediaMover and MDV. MediaMover can do all the above, but MDV is the best I've ever used. It's simple, easy, and fast.
Here's the problem with MDV. (Problems, really.)
1. It's Windows only. There are ways of making it work in OS X, but you hate them all. How do I know? Because it keeps coming up.
2. It has limitations in Wine - neither bin sifting nor folder scanning works.
3. It's abandoned.
So what would it take to create a native OS X media management tool?
First, we need to know what we're working with, the data. Are there available file specs on:
1. Media Stream Managers (MSM's)
2. Projects
3. Bins
4. Metadata layout on individual MXF's
Is it just a matter of asking someone from Avid HQ? Do you know anybody?
It's clear we need something. But everyone's busy, you know... editing. Plus you're thinking, "What can I do? I'm not a programmer!" Well, I'm an anomaly. I do what you do, but I also have some development/IT chops. They just need some refreshing. And this project would be worth refreshing them.
So what do you think? Is it worth making the next MDV? Are there any others like me who would be interested in contributing? Do you have any contacts that could help point me in a direction?

Avid 8.5 Mac taking forever to export files (Actually stops and cannot quit)
HELLO. I installed 8.5 (and El Capitan) yesterday. I have been working on a project and have not gotten any errors while I have been working. I am now trying to export and I am unable to do it. The time indicator keeps going up and up and up and the bar almost seems to stop moving. When I try to stop the export (command+.), the system will not let me do it. I have to force quit in order for it to stop. It has not crashed (or locked up) because the numbers for the time of the export are still moving. My specs are below. Thanks in advance.

What "media creation" codec should I use please
I'm so confused. I have 4k .mov footage and after reading about Avid DNxHR HQX and all the other DNx Codecs as well as Apple Pro Res codecs I have no idea what to choose for importing. Also should I choose a 10 bit or 8 bit codec? And I have generally used YCbCr for color space not RGB.

Title tool problems - what u see is not what u get
Hi Avid fans,
I am working on a feature length documentary edit and am a longtime avid user, over 20 years now. But all thru my ownership of avids there have always been unerving, maddening and consistent bugs with the title tool.
Often I find as I am working in the tool with details such as kerning specifically, the tool looks one way while I am working and outputs something completely different, or worse yet only slightly different so you don't catch it til much later.
For more complex titles I go into after effects, and not marqee--- but you would think I could just get my Avid to be able to do a simple title in black and white or a very simple lower third without being shifty on me. Right now I am about pulling out my hair with this! take a look at how the title looks in the timeline-- and then how it looks in the tool--- SAME EXACT TITLE!
Now I know the first thing folks often mention is an upgrade of system change- I am on a fast computer, (imac 3.5 Ghz Intel core 17 24 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3-- OS 10.9) and am staying on 7.0.3 until I finish this film at which point I will upgrade- I am not upgrading long into a year long edit and facing all thise potential bugs and hassles and incompatabilities with other plug ins or other software systems. I am only a few months from finishiong this giant project and would like not to rock the boat too much. Plus, having owned MANY Avids over two decades, this weird title glitch has appeared in various other versions, so I am not confident in updates making this fix.
If anyone has any ideas that do not involve system overhauls I am all ears. Otherwise it appears I will go into the labor intensive work of using after effects for simple black and white cards and lower thirds--- not exactly why I pay for the avid tho...

Trying to export media that is both 29.97 fps & 25.00 fps
Hi,
I am trying to export my reel from Avid. My reel is originally 29.97 fps. I recently came across another project that I edited from a while back but is 25.00 fps. I have added this material to my original reel. ( Now my reel is mixed with 29.97 & 25.00 fps)
What is the best way that I can export my reel with the new addition of material that is 25.00 fps? All and any tips/ guides will be much appreciated.

Export Duplication
Just upgraded to Media Composer 8.5. Now when I export a timeline it automatically creates another timeline, calling it (Name) exported. It gets messy in the bin and I'd like to turn off that feature.
Any thoughts on how I can do that?

I dont know it is right or not right that I use the word 'halation', it is from the footage, because the lens hood is not big enought, we got some light, just 3 or 5 frames.
can I remove it by avid mc or any software?

ISIS (Nexis) 1000 system director shuts down
Hi all,
We have three x ISIS 1000 units installed at three different locations in Australia, each with between 3 and 6 connected clients. We purchased the first one in October 2015, the next in March 2016 and the most recent was purchased in early May 2016. Since November, all three have exhibited similar behaviour in that, at quite regular intervals (every 2 weeks), all clients lose their connection to the ISIS and the client manager shows the message "Failed to get workspace list with error: Timeout. Server may not be running."
The ISIS itself shows an amber light on the front panel but otherwise appears to be still on although the fans have stopped spinning. We are able to access the web interface, but it gives us the message that "System Director is not running". The only way to bring it back online is to turn it off at the power switches and then power back up. Once it goes through it's boot cycle, the clients can log back in and continue working. To say this is inconvenient and unnerving for our clients is an understatement and we have been in constant contact with Avid via our resellers since it first happened. The most recent instance was on the unit purchased earlier this month, which went down this morning. We have had Avid support capture logs from various systems, but the logs don't seem to have any record of the system going offline.
The response has been glacial at times and we still don't have a diagnosis of the issue or any indication of when there may be a fix. We have opened at least 2 cases (through different resellers) with Avid.
All three systems are running version 5.0.1. I am posting as I can't believe we have the only three units in the world that are exhibiting this behaviour, so I'm hoping someone may have experienced the same and may have a workaround or temporary fix that can pre-empt and avoid the shutdown of the system director.

Export Avid AMA File with 1 Stereo Stream

I'm having a problem exporting an Avid MXF File. I output my sequence, go to AMA File Export, and choose Stereo. For my timeline, I only have One Video Track and One Stereo Audio Track. Why does the Avid, upon exporting the MXF file, create two separate mono audio streams embedded in the file, instead of just one stereo stream?
This is a big problem when I have to import this file into iMovie, or even upon playing back on Quicktime Player for the Mac. It plays back in mono. I realize in most NLE's, you have to pan L and pan R to get the stereo image back, but this is an inconvenience for clients who just want to playback the MXF file and here a stereo image.
The GREAT news is that iMovie 9 and iMovie 10 can import the Avid MXF File *perfectly*, it's just that the file gets interpreted as two mono audio streams :(
Contrastingly, Adobe Media Encoder is able to create an Avid MXF File with a single stereo stream, so when I open that MXF file in Quicktime Player, it properly plays back in Stereo (no need to pan L or pan R at all).
Is there any settings in the Avid to toggle this or fix this in the future?

according to AMT SDK documentation (AMT Overview Version 2.3) supported
compression formats include JPEG2000 1080i at 25 and 29.97fps.
The question is : The supported format is only JPEG2000 RGB 4:4:4 or YUV 4:2:2 is supported

MC 8.5.3 Place playhead to the end of timeline
Hello,
wanna some strange thing. When I click on the empty space right of timeline, in MC8 my playhead does nothing. But in MC 7.0.6 it places in the end of timeline. In MC8 it works so only when I toggle my sequence to preview monitor. I want this function back!

PLEASE HELP ME ... Issues with Importing AVCHD .MTS files
Hi,
I've been trying to import .MTS files but having issues in Media Composer. I'm getting the following few errors. The files will look like it's importing but then I'll get following errors:
Exception: NEMFile Writer:Execute Internal TIMEOUT - NEMFILE Writer has detected upstream pipe stall
OR
This file (00081) is not the first file of a spanned clip. This clip will be out of sync if the first file is not selected first
OR
The AVCHD file seem to be importing but all it does is starts importing again and again and again ...
Is there any solution for this issue? For the time being I converted the .MTS files into AVID DNxHD but it's taking all the space on my hard drive ...

AMA relink issue
Hi
I'm working on a MC 8.5 suite (just upgraded) and ran into a relink problem with some AMA.
brief summery:
1. I have many Sony FS7 cards on this project.
2. Most of them managed to be relinked.
3. Some, no matter what I did, stayed offline. As if they lost any connection tp the original footage.
4. I'm well experienced with AMA so plugs and checkboxes solutions had already been tried. So is re-mounting, hiding media, opening in another project/user.
Any suggestions?
Can I force a clip to be relinked to a certain media?

composer crashes during import
Please help,
I already have successfully imported .movs and mp4´s with size of around 5 GB and a playlength of about 90 minutes.Now, doing the same import process, the system crashes on each import attempt after about one hour.

AMA File export is changing original color
Hey guys,
I'm trying to do an AMA export from a linked uncompressed 10 bit QT. The issue I'm having is that the color gets saturated and no longer looks the way it did in the time line. Why is avid crushing the blacks and saturating the colors when I try to export an mxf op 1a in a J2k compression? Does anyone know why this is happening or how to get avid to keep the same color space? It's going from ycbcr rec 709 to ycbcr rec709 primaries rec709/2020 gamma.
