It doesn't work but adding a regular timewarp does. Any reason we can't use the trim to fill on these? Running 8.5.3 on 10.11.4.

do I need to transcode???
Hello,
I'm cutting on Media Composer 8.5.3. I have raw .XML file that I had uploaded through dropbox and then dropped into an avid 4k project bin. I get the error message "the file format C0010M01.XML is not supported. The test was to see if I need to have transcoded so I guess I do, ALTHOUGH I thought XML files were supported by Avid.
Can someone explain please? I believe in the past when I have loaded XML files avid has turned them into quicktime files for use.

Fusion 8.1 with MC8.x
Downloaded and installed Fusion 8.1 and it runs fine stand-alone but did not seem to install the AVX Plugin so can not access within Avid. I have a query in to BM Support but meanwhile wanted to see if anyone has managed to get it to work with MC8.

Can't play back real time
All of a sudden I can no longer play footage in real time. It pauses and stutters and the audio has an echo. I've uninstalled and reinstalled MC(8.5.3). This is the first time I have experienced any problems with this setup since the upgrade to Windows 10 when it first came out over a year ago. Installed the correct Video Driver too.
Any ideas?

Can't send 1080p project to sorenson or make ref file
Hi friends.
I have loaded footage from an osmo camera which I shot in 1080p 59.994fps.
When I try and export the project to sorenson, it tells me this feature is currently not supported for larger than HD media.
Any suggestions? I am on shut-down until I get this figured out. I tried the brosoft tutorial with no results btw.

Importing DJI (OSMO) footage in AVID MC
I have loaded footage from my DJI Osmo, as well as some drone footage from a DJI camera. I try to use different import resolutions, including DNxHD 145. Every option I use looks extremely washed out, also lots of stair-casing and artifacting on the lines. There must be a step I am missing, because it can't be that footage from one of the most popular camera companies can look this bad. Maybe I need a codec?
I shoot in 1080 60p
Any help would be great.

Change project Attic location to 'local' while using shared storage.
Hi Avid,
I wonder if this option would be a good idea as to give the userbase some option to determine where the random problems with bin saves, time line updates come from.
Of course shared storage performance will always be a bit slower then when using local storage but the differences on big projects are beyond any network performance reason and these problems have existed for years. Eventual update of attic files on an ISIS can be done on bin closure or project closure. This also creates a possible extra level of 'backups' on the ISIS systems where users can decide to optionally update attic files on the ISIS.

Boris RED 6?
When releasing RED 5.5, Boris anounced that there is a version 6 coming later in 2014 (with free upgrade for 5.5 buyers), though there is no word about it since. Has something changed?
I wonder if the issue with lack of properly working lighting effects will be finally fixed, especially Lens flare - the Open GL versions of these effects have unsolvable problems with transparancy, that makes these useless in ceratain situations leaving you with no lighting effects at all. I remember I lost a whole day while testing RED and trying to do a certain effect, befeore I realized that I'm not doing antything wrong and this is simply a 'feature' :)
The other annoying issue was no option to properly export content when working outside of Avid: no QT export, AVI limited to 2 GB, leaving only the Targa files option, that was slow as hell.

TMPGenc Mastering 5 and authoring 5 issue
I have both Authoring and mastering 5 which had been working fine(windows 7 pro 64 bit) until I upgraded my computer to windows 10, now when I open both programs, they dont go pass "launching application", so I can't open any of the programs. I know it's not MC related but may be someone may have experience the same issue and resolution, any help would be appreciated

can I work with both these files with no problems?
Hello there. If I don't AMA but import MPEG 4 quicktime made with H264 Linear PCM codec and .mov clips made with Apple ProRess 422 codec can I use them in same sequence without problems?
Also wondering if I make the project 8 bit or 10 bit if the original footage is 3840x2160 (a version of 4K) ?

What is the official word on an in-place Win10 upgrade...
What is the official wisdom and sanctioned behaviour regarding doing an in-place Windows 10 upgrade with Media Composer 8.5.3 installed?
The deadline for the free upgrade is approaching, I've done an in-place update on my laptop which went smoothly in terms of retaining all documents etc.
Do I need to deactivate my copy of MC before performing the update? Will it just continue working as normal after the update? What is the process here and who has sucessfully installed Windows 10 Pro in place and then continued working?
Anything to be aware of/gotchas etc.?

Persistent transcode drive space bug...
This seems to have been a problem for many versions now and seems to never have been addressed.
Situation:
A sequence is mostly consolidated or transcoded but a few clips remain on another drive or AMA linked. Maybe the clips total a few seconds of footage and so should be tiny in terms of the space they take up on a workspace.
When I go to transcode (not consolidate) these clips, Avid is unable to correctly estimate the size needed on the target drive and instead of asking for a few GBs (which would represent the approx size needed to transcode the few clips), will ask for hundreds of GBs as if I were transcoding the whole sequence rather than just a few clips. It's been doing this for ages but I swear it used to be able to correctly figure out how much space was needed. (maybe version 4 and before?)
This is incredibly annoying when you have a full ISIS and need to juggle things around. Or even worse if you do not have the ability to scale your workspaces in size.
Do other people see this? It's a massive PITA.
I'm seeing this now on version 8.4.5 but I can remember seeing this in many previous versions.

Pan and Zoom with Frameflex; How to get the result into the video clip?
I want to use UHD (3840 x 2160) video clips in a HD-timeline (1920 x 1080). I linked the UHD-clips and used source setting to apply a framing with 50% size, which gives me a frame of 1920x1080 in the middle of the video clip.
I placed the linked clips on a timeline. They all show the spacial effect being ppresent. Now I want to use the effect editor to animate the frame by using keyframes within the effect, to follow a moving object and keep it in focus. So far all works fine. With the effect editor open, I see the frame with handles in the record monitor, and I can change the parameters. The source monitor shows the result of modfications as "Effect Analysis". When I have finished adjustments, I want the modifications become permanent for this clip. When I close the effect editor, however, all panning disappears, and I still have the video as it was before modifications in the effect editor. How can I achieve, that the modifications made in the effect editor are shown in the timeline when I close the effect editor?

This morning I started MC and he asked me to activate it on (?). Because it is already activated.
I have a problem: I can not desactivate MC from Application Manager. Whenever MC responds:
"ECHEC de la désactivation : Response is out of order with previous responses"
And i can't start it.

Background Transcoding/Services won't start
Hi all,
Having trouble with the last couple of versions with background transcoding or effects rendering. Basically, it doesn't work anymore.
If I hover over the icon in the notification area it says:
TranscodeService: Stopped
DMF: Stopped
TranscodeServiceWorker: Running
Server status failure.
If I right click the icon and choose Start Avid Background Services nothing happens.
If I try to open Avid Background Services Manager from the start menu, nothing happens.
Tried rebooting, no good.
I'm using a computer that's not on the approved list, but it's been fine for years.
Any ideas?

Transitioning from Mac to Windows 10
I have an Educational license (currently installed and running on a MAC), and I would like to know the following:
1. As I recall, I am allowed to install my educational copy of MC/license on any computer, but am required to deactivate it on the existing computer and then activate it on the new computer to use it elsewhere. Have I got that right?
2. I have used this procedure on another Mac but will it or should it work on a Windows computer? What about the system ID? It will be different on a different computer, won't it?
I don't expect this to be an ongoing issue, but I would think that many Educators face this issue, wherein at their place of work they have one type of OS and at home they have another.
Or do I have to get another MC license?
