As a longtime Avid user and currently 1st assistant editor on a major network dramatic series, I use the Markers (formerly locators) tool extensively and often.
I've been around long enough to remember when markers were called locators and could be relied upon to actually wrap text so PDFs could be created successfully, with images, and in a single step. That hasn't been the case for more than a decade.
I can't think of a subtler way to put this, so I'll just say it: those of us who rely on Avid to be the pro tool it is are Avid's core customer group. We've been there and we will be there. So how about fixing Markers AKA Locators, a tool so well known and loved that it shows up as a branded request on editorial turnover lists from the largest to the smallest picture, sound and visual effects facilities?
Our sound and VFX teams rely on my ability to export markers in PDF format – a fact of life that hasn't changed in decades, and that shouldn't require extra steps to manufacture or maintain. It's well known editors and assistants rely on Markers in their ecosystem, but I wonder if Avid is aware how truly integrated an necessary it is to those outside the cutting room too, and how a simple bug fix could make it great again?
Please Avid: we love you, but I speak for all veterans when I say "please fix this bug" ASAP! :)
