The first thing noticed is that MC5 is a new beast.
Here are some AVCHD files to try.
The first 3 files are mts.
Because MC5 is capable of importing AVCHD files.
Update:
1) The import is slow but the files are coming fine into MC.
2) NTSC clips can't be imported into a PAL project as MC detects the framerate and stops you.
3) Once come into MC they play fantastic.
Hello,
I am aware that it is likely to be an issue of Adobe Media Encoder, however I want to ask here too because knowing if other users encounter the same issue might help to isolate the error:
We often use Quicktime reference files, and suddenly no one could be interpret correctly by Adobe Media Encoder. It only shows black, but gives no error message. It encodes without a warning, but the result is a encoded file with correct audio but black picture. Selecting or deselecting the option 'use Avid codes' changes nothing.
As there were numerous updates both from Adobe and from Avid, I cannot narrow this down to a certain time.
Thank you
I can't link to AVC Long-GOP High (HD720) .mp4 file.
Avid Generic Plug-In 2.6
I seem to remember that when I spec'ed my then new Avid system in 2014, we were told that the HP Z820 workstation should have dual 6 core HT CPUs, because MC (at that time v.7.0.4) could not handle more CPU cores - or at least could not benefit from more. Today we're running v.8.5.3 on the same platform. I can see that the settings (max threads) is set to 12 which would seem to agree with the original spec.
But my question is now, could newer CPU's with a greater number of cores be of any benefit - and MC utilize them, and are the gains worth it?
FYI we are currently fitted with 32GB RAM
Any real world experience on this question out there?
Well its time to upgrade my system as I am starting to have issues. Its an old system anyway and its time. Ive never did a custom build so Im more then likely going to just get a pc brand. Any recommendations or websites that would editing PCs? Budget is $2000-2500
Hi
We shoot on Sony PXW-X70 1080p50 XAVC-L 50 10bit. My normal workflow was to transcode to DNxL HD 185x which at 50fps is DNX 365x, Quite large files for HD.
With the introduction of the “Generic” AMA plug in I am able to edit with long gop media that I wasn’t able to do with the Nablet plug in.
Is it better to:
Consolidate and render in XAVC-L 50?
Transcode and render DNX 365x?
Or a combination of the above?
Is the Avid XAVC-L 50 10bit?
Thanks
I have an issue since I installed MC 2018.10.0
I'm using a Macbook pro 2018 and a USB Avid keyboard. Whenever I mark and extract (CMD+x) and paste (CMD+v), the extracted content will overwrite instead of splice in. I've got the same issue when I mark clips with the splice in mover (yellow arrow). Whatever clip I move to splice in, it'll overwrite.
When I check my keyboard settings it shows that the splice in tool is correctly on the v-key.
Any advice or clue is highly appreciated. This really slows down my editing
Hello:
I recently migrated to Windows and I'd like to know where the MC State file is created and saved in a PC.
Thanks in advance.

I see there is a new Avid FX V6.3 available but the download for Mac version is broken. Anyone have an idea of how to get it downloaded?
Cheers,

I've exported AAF files many, many, many times to our 3rd party audio mix facility (who use ProTools). Never any issues. But suddenly our AAF files are no longer working. Apparently they "contain no data".
See settings below.
I sent the same protocol to a different mixer at a different company and they too were having problems.
Anyone else out there having issues with AAF ?
files?
Hi,
I want to publish a 7 minute sequence from MCF to VIMEO. When I try that, I first get a window in which I can set the quality of the video. I chose better, because best is 6 GB. I guess to big for internet. The project is 1020. I want as good quality as possible, because it is a showreel. When I click VIMEO, MC opens a publish-window where I can log in. After login, it is not clear how MCF and VIMEO interact. I don't see how this works. Anybody did this already? How should I go on?
Thanks,
Rob
I've searched through the forums for a similar thread and haven't found one. If I've just missed it, I apologize, and please point me in the right direction.
After a re-install of Media Composer (8.10.0), I'm having trouble linking to h264/mp4 video files (and re-linking them to existing projects). This is the case with about 95% of files of that type. I've come across a couple h264/mp4 files that did NOT have issues, but I can't figure out a difference between them. And either way, I'm pretty desperate to get these files back online. They were all working before the re-install.
When I link them via the source browser, this is the error I get on playback:
AMAProducerTask::Execute: AMA Plug-In Unable to Provide Compressed Sample
I ran into a similar problem linking R3D files, but that was simply a matter of re-installing the RED plugins. Maybe this could also be a plugin problem? Is it possible for the Quicktime or AVCHD plugins to become corrupted or uninstalled? If so, how can I reinstall them?
If it might help, I can provide samples of the files that are working and not working, as well as system specs.
Thanks, in advance, for any help you can offer!
Ron
Any EVA1 users out there? We do a lot of work with the EVA1 and Avid. We film in 10bit 4:22 150 or 400 bit, 24p. To do this we have to film in LongGOP. Avid doesn't export LongGOP natively, or so that's what we've experienced, so we have to force the film output in QT Movie, Custom, Avid 1:1. Looknig for better ways to output this footage for finishing.
Hello,
I thought I'd ask an "expected compatibility" question between an Avid product and SDK here before opening a case formally... If this is NOT expected to work I will not bother opening a formal case. Maybe someone else has encountered this and has a suggestion. I am not sure if it would be considered an Interplay MAM issue or AMT2 issue.
A mutual client in Albania is having problems with one of our AMT2 based products being used to add a new format to existing Interplay clips created with the Interplay MAM product. (long standing product)
The issue seems limited to DNxHD media created by this product - MPEG2 (D10) clips created with same product/version are working with NO issues. I believe it might be a metadata issue and not a codec issue. Some descriptor items differ for the video. Maybe AMT2 is not expected to work. AMT3 may not be a suitable solution since it is unclear whether "avid to avid" with AMT3 is supported or not officially.
Details: DNxHD media created with Interplay MAM 5.9.5.10037 is failing (VCID 1238 - 1920x1080p@25fps) when the media file associated with the clip is opened by AMT2. I have several clips from the customer as samples, all fail the same way.
The error is "UNKNOWN AMT EXCEPTION" (error code 72) when calling OpenMxfFile with the uncompressed XML below. Our product does not have issues with the same format/rate/raster created with AMT2 or Avid editor.
NOTE also- that MPEG2 (VCID 160) media created at this customer with the exact same product works with NO AMT2 issues. This is VERY repeatable with these clips.

Thanks in advance for any comments or advice.

Hi all,
I apologize if this is not the correct forum for this post.
We have run into an issue with one of our products in use at a mutual customer in Albania. Our product uses the legacy AMT 2 toolkit with MXF media created with Interplay MAM 5.9.5.10037. (we are in the process of moving to AMT3but still have a period where AMT2 products are in use).
The customer's workflow creates assets (DNxHD and XDCAM-EX 35) using Interplay MAM workflow and the MXF content crashes AMT 2 hard (unhandled exception). The exception occurs in OpenMxfFile call on the video file. NOTE - It seems to be limited to HD formats - IMX50 media created with the same workflow does not have an issue.
This is easily recreated with the sample toolkit with a simple call:
AMT_DLL_sample_app mxf_to_amt videofilev01b087ab0d.mxf "" .\Data
Ideally - since AMT2 is essentially no longer in development - a fix to the media creation in Interplay MAM can be identified to maintain compatibility with AMT2 at least with SD and HD formats supported by AMT2. This appears to be a metadata issue.
Please advise and let me know if you need any assistance or have any questions.
Thank you in advance,
Rich Laws

Update 10.24.18
Media Composer 2018.10 & macOS Mojave (10.14.) is now supported. Users can upgrade to Mojave and use Media Composer 2018.10.
Please note that there could be a slight lag when using the Mac installer. You might think the hanging in the Finder while opening the DMG file when using Mojave requres a force quit. normally it doesnt it you wait a few seconds it should be fine.

BUT...you should download the Movaje base installer from the App Store BUT DON'T LET IT INSTALL. Save it and you can use it to install when it is finally approved.
Is a sheduled restart as part of maintenance required for Nexis?
With the ISIS system it was required but ISIS was running windows server.
is there a way to avoid truncating the start or ending of a clip in which the video is longer than the audio, or vice versa? I would like to keep the original lengths of all the video and audio files when autosyncing. I don't mind gaps in the timeline.
