Trying to capture video into MC 2018.8 with Intensity Pro 4K Help

Been trying to capture some old SD video inot avid - first I used BM capture tool but avid does not like the file.

I do not know which file to chooose?  Then I am trying the capture tool in MC- but the deck is not controlled by avid just a sony deck with compsitevideo in and audio in - I think the BM card preference are ok.

But there is not any video in confidence monitor and it keeps asking me for a source tape - but I really do neet to

use that feature and cannot find where that menu button is.  Anyone run into this or know how to cpature without avid controlling everything - just  a hard capture to HD?

HI can I get some help with a new PC build for Avid MC

Hi, so I keep having constant crashes, usually when I first turn on my pc.  I have been battling this for over a year and simply have had enough.  I have been unable to find a solution.  My pc will just crash and restart.  I have checked the error logs and its always the same power error.  I changed out the psu....I even changed my mobo and cpu last year.....nothing solves this issue and I can not find anyone or anything online that solves the issue.

So I am just going to start from scratch here. I am going to use windows 10 64 bit...I have been using windows 7 64 bit.  I have never had a single issue with Avid, Photoshop, after effects etc.  Is this smart to build with 10?  Seems like it is time to do this.  I use 10 on my normal pc in my house and have zero issues so I am assuming Avid is cool with 10 by this point.

So I am looking for reccomendations for MOBO, CPU, GPU, Hard Drives, PSU, Ram and Case.  Not sure if I am going to use any of my existing parts except maybe my drives.  I currently use two Raid 0 2 tb, 1tb boot drive sata 3 and have a blu ray drive.   

I use to use videoguys as a baseline for what to build and they seem to have gotten out of the buisness of reccomending builds.  I am a freelancer and have worked as an assistant editor for a tv show for the last 9 years and now that has essentially come to an end because of a lack of sponsors.  So I need to be able to do edit anything thrown my way going forward.  Not raw 8k files or anything extreme like that however.

So I am open to any ideas others have and am interested in your builds.  It seems AMD Ryzen, a 1060 and 32 gb ram seems to be a constant I keep reading about in regards to this.

XAVC-S Slow-motion in Avid

When I shoot slow-mo with my F5 the footage links perfectly with the Sony XAVC Avid plugin, when I shoot slow-mo with my A7RII it is not so easy, you have to work with the native linked footage and use the Avid motion effect editor to set it up, so   is this where I now have to finally purchase the nablet XAVC-S plugin?  Will the nablet plugin bring the XAVC-S slow-mo footage into Avid at the shot frame rate transcoded?

Feature request: sort the Windows menu

I can't tell you how crazy it is to me that there's no option to sort the Windows menu alpahabetically.  As a result when I have a dozen or more bins open, this menu becomes useless--there is no way to find anything.  I have to name bins with all kids of crazy special characters so that I can find them in the list.

On top of this, scripts and bins in this menu should each sort within their own group.  There is no reason to have a menu with 25+ items, scripts and bins, all mixed up based on the order in which they were opened.

Avid Background Services on 2018.8

While it's relatively slow this month, I'm trying to refresh the OS and software on my 3 Mac Avid network, connected to Nexis Pro storage. All Macs (trash can, iMac and laptop) are on approved Mac hardware list.

After a fresh install of MacOS 10.13.6 and Media Composer 2018.8, Avid Background Services is not running consistently between different user profiles. I create Administrator (with admin rights) and Editor (standard, no admin rights) profiles on all machines, and make my freelancers use the Editor account. I am able to successfully start Avid Background Services on the Administrator account (green icon), it will not start on the Editor acocunt (red icon). I've installed this configuration on 2 of my 3 machines now (laptop and iMac) and this issue presents itself on both machines. 

I've tried creating a new editor profile with admin rights, and this newly created profile still does not start Background Services. Only logging into the original Administrator profile allows for successful background transcodes, renders, etc.

I'm upgrading from v8.5, where Background Services was also unreliable. I was hoping Background Services would be more stable with this release. When it works, I find it very useful for our workflows, especially transcoding media to our Nexis in the background, allowing us to organize our bins and even work on other projects while it transcodes media in the background. I don't see that many posts about it in the forums, does it generally work well for everyone else? Anyone have any tricks up their sleeves to get Background Services turn green when it goes red? Or does no one bother because it doesn't work for them? Asking for a friend... :)

Relationship Color Correction interaction

Hello

I've run into some weird behaveour in Symphony 5.5.3.

When I'm using both a Source Segment correction (green line) and a Program Segment correction (blue line) on a clip I can see that there is a 'hierachy' in that the Source Segment correction seems to be applied first - then the Program Segment correction. If colors are clipped by the Source correction they cannot be brought back by the Program correction.

However the Help states that:

 

Effects and Color Correction Guide : Understanding Color Correction Mode : The Color Correction Tool : Understanding Relationship Color Corrections

You can apply a relationship correcton and a color correction effect on the same segment. This results in two distinct corrections. Your Avid editing application processes the relationship correction first, and its result is the input to the color correction effect.This approach differs from applying one correction on the Source side and another on the Program side, when your Avid editing application makes a single adjustment using the merged values from the Source and Program sides.

 

But clearly the values are not mereged but applied one after another.

Is this a bug in Symphony? An error in the manual? Or perhaps a setting that can be changed somewhere?

I'll post some examples below. First the Y Waveform of the original image.

MS 2018.8.0 with Blackmagic Ultrastudio Minimonitor playback problem

Hi all - 

Playback to client monitor no longer works after updating from 2018.5 to 2018.8.0. Sound continues to play, but picture in record monitor and client monitor become very slow and timeline indicates dropped frames in red. All is well with hardware disabled.

Anyone else experience this problem? (Blackmagic software is up to date.)

AudioStreamReader... Consistency Check Failure

I'm working on a show that was setup by some inexperienced assistants/DIT's... and I find that some of the media shows up as linked, not master clips, even though the actual media is mxf and is in the proper folder for media.  Just seems to be linking to mxf files rather than having been imported.  Definitely there were some shortcomings on the dailies.  

Attempting to do quicktime reference outputs but can't do that with AMA files, but when I find the files in Media Tool and attempt to transcode, I get this error:

 

AudioStreamReader::ExecuteReqeustSingleAsync()

CONSISTENCY CHECK FAILURE !?! :(102).

 

Appears to give the error when transcoding the audio portion of the file (picture dailies had a guide track included in them)

 

Long shot, but any suggestions, as I'm on my own at this point.

Avid Nexis Client Manager 18.6.1.14 - No network interface found

Hi,

We have new laptops and can't connect to our Nexis Pro while on wireless. If we click on Network interface settings we a message saying "There were no network interfaces found". If I connect a cable it works ok.

Anyone else that has seen this? Can't find any info on it.

Composer v2018 : flickering SubCaps !

Hi !

 

I’m currently working on a documentary feature film in which we needed to subtitle in progress. This is on Composer 2018.4.0.

We used a track with a 3D LUT, and above, a track with SubCaps.

 

Unfortunately, some of the subcaps are kind of flickering / shaking (and even jumping) for about 1 frame time, suddenly set in the middle of screen before coming back at the right place.

This flickering happens randomly, and from one cut to another, you don’t see the same jumping subcaps…

 

-I checked that there’s no keyframes in Position of the Subcap FX

-I tried to invert LUT-track and Sub-track

-I tried to render the whole video.

Day by day, some of them stop flickering - some others start to…

 

Do you know something about this issue ?

Media Composer 2018.7 does not work with Decklink Ultrastudio Mini Monitor.  Downloaded the latest drivers and reinstalled them.

Regarding AD integration with CloudUX20186

After running the avidctl script to create auth.yaml file. I can not see the groups defined in our AD. Are there any tools to help debug this?  MCUX at least had a test login tool. CloudUX20181 was successfully integrated  with this same AD

Ignite Pro crashing MC

I took advantage ogf the 1/2 price deal on Ignite Pro AVX plugin, however MC is crashing on launch (Segmentation fault in main thread at Initializing Plugin: IgniteCore.avx).

I've tried reinstalling IgnitePro, but MC always crashes at this point, but works as expected when the plugins are removed.

I've also posted a query to FXhome, but had no response so far.

Firewall issue with application manager

We are trying to use Media Composer first in our company but can not get past the logon screen of application manager.  Our IT department indicates they have followed the instructions provided by AVID to grant access to ports and IP's but every time we try to sign in its not working.  We get "our logon service is not available right now".  In talking to IT, they indicate the program keeps goign to different IP's and isnt staying with the list that AVID provides.  I contacted AVID And they wont offer any additional support and directed me here.  Does anyone have a solution I can provide our IT department to try and resovle this issue?

the following message appears when i try to open a sequence, then my PC crashes down:

Some more infos: 

I received the project including .mxf files from someone else and try to reopen it. I got 2 sequences. The 1st one is the problematic one, the 2nd works!

I already checked the rights of the sequence and the .mxf files. I already setup a new default user profile (which most of the time solves problem starting with this "mac2qt" thing).

MC 2018.8 /// Desktop PC /// Win10 ///  i7-8700K CPU @3.70GHz - 32 GB RAM

 

Please help asap. Thanks in advance!

Using 2048x1152 DPX in a 1080 sequence, and exporting at 2K?

Hello everyone.

 

I am on a job working with Avid 8.10.0

 

We are working in a 1080p 25fps project.

 

Recently our VFX vendor reached out to us and requested DPX frames for three morph shots we had made in the Avid. Unfortunately, since we are working offline, our temp VFX are made from 1080p, DNxHD 36 images instead of the 2048x1152 uncompressed images that we shot.

 

I've requested from the VFX company to send me their full resolution DPX pulls, with the thinking that I could take those, apply our temp morphs to them, and then send them those DPX files at the original 2048x1152 resolution.

 

My questions here is, if I AMA in the 2048x1152 DPX pulls into my 1080 project and apply the morphs, will I be able to export 2048x1152 DPXs or will Avid see them as 1080 footage because they are in a 1080 sequence?

 

If this is the case, how do I get around it? Will I have to create a new 2048x1152 project and then do the work there?
