2019.6 Find Bin command in MC

In 2019.6 if you use the Find Bin command on a clip in the source monitor for which the bin is not open when the command is invoked (i.e. you've got a sequence in the record monitor, you're parked on a clip, you want to know where the master clip is, you use Match Frame to load it into the source monitor and then Find Bin to open the bin), the bin opens in a new Bin Container that is floating above the existing bin container.

My request is the bin should open already inside the existing bin container.


High light any timecode, copy and paste in to any other time code window..

Sometimes when I get sent stuff from my edit producer I need to replace all the clips they send in an aaf with a group clip including both cameras. I want to be able to load the group clip into the source monitor, then load thwe AAF into the record monitor match the timecode rather than match the source. 

Currently I have to manually eneter the timecodes to paste the group clips in.

Move markers or locators to Timecode track

Hi,

I am working with a lot of markers (or are they called locators?) for transcribing my whole footage in a timeline.

I like to place the markers on the Timecode track but some markers I had placed on a video track.

Is there any way to move them to a Timecode track?

If I right click them in the marker window I can only move them to Video or Audio tracks.

Offline Workflow Advice Needed

Hey all. I'm prepping for a show and I'd like to get some advice on workflow. 

The show will be shooting in a variety of formats, frame rates, and rasters sizes. To manage this, all media will first be transcoded in DaVinci Resolve to UHD ProRes at 23.98fps.  

We want to then create low-rez edit proxies in resolve from the new masters. The format would be 1/16th rez ProRes Proxy (or maybe DNxHR LB).

What workflow would you use when importing the low-rez proxies into an Avid project to ensure that the low-rez media relinks to the high-rez media when we conform? 

Traditionally, in the unscripted workflow, we would AMA, unlink media, change the tape names to something unique, relink the media, and transcode in Avid to low-rez edit proxy. This obviously worked because Avid is creating a direct relationship between the AMA-linked media and the avid-generated edit proxy.

But if both the high-rez media and the low-rez media are both created outside of Avid, you will have to use other methods. 

FYI, I did do a test relinking a low-rez timeline to the high-rez media on another workspace. It worked, but it was sort of ineligant. In the relink dialogue, under "Relink by" I chose "Timecode" and "Name." The timeline relinked perfectly, but none of the media in the project relinked. In fact, when I tried to relink the clips in the bins in the project to the high-rez media, the relink options were greyed out. 

Should I also have an idential high-rez project that has all the bins of high-rez media in it? And that is where I should do the relinking of the low-rez timeline?

Hi, 

 

Comp Specs: 2019 iMac, Mac OSx 10.15.3

Avid Version: Avid MediaComposer Ultimate 2020.12

 

Issue: I am trying to install Language Pack 2.2.0.207 for Avid MediaComposer Ultimate 2020.12. Currently, Scriptsync only has Language as an option. 

Description: Every time I try to install, I get this message:

"AvidLanguagePackInstaller_signed.pkg can’t be installed because its digital signature is not trusted. - The package may have been corrupted or tampered with. Get a new copy of the package and try again.". 

I am on a deadline and have to scriptsync in another language. Unfortunately, I haven't been able succesfully install 10.14 (I believe my computer is too new) to see if it's a 64-bit issue. 

 

Any help would be greatly apprciated! Thank you!

Frequently when consolidating a sequence, I get this error.

What can be? The sequence I can export and visualize without problems.

Moving Locators (easily?)

12yr FCP user, but switched to MC5.5 2 months ago - so appologies if my terminology isn't right. 

 

I've added locators to all the VFX shots in my sequence so I can easily find them again, but I've put them at them all at begining of the shot, and I want to move them all to the middle of the shot so they can't be deleted if they are trimmed at the head. 

 

I've figured out how to Option+Click/Drag them.. only in the Composer Position Bar, not on the timeline itself. 

 

The problem is that the Composer Position Bar is really small on a 20 min sequence so all 60 of the locators blend together.  The other problem is that I am able to double click the locator in the Locators Window to go to it, and option+drag it, but it is really imprecise... jumping many frames at a time. On the shorter clips, it just skips over the entire clip and I can only move the locator onto the next clip over (totally wrong!)  Is there any way to move the locators more precisely?

Hello all, and Happy Friday.

I'm having some issues re-link media (already I hear the groans) in Avid MC 2018.12.11 running on a PC.

I have a sequence that I've prepped for turnover. The media that was used for the offline was transcode at DNxHD36 in Resolve and imported into to Avid (not AMA link) and is stored on our ISIS drive (Y drive) all good so far.

For the turnover I've re-linked the transcoded footage to the orginal raw rushes (3840x2160 & 4096x2160) and then transcoded them from the sequence with 50frms hands at DNXHR HQX to another partition on the ISIS (X drive) as per the request of the online editor.

The problem I have is that I didn't duplicate the offline sequence (rookie error I know) so now the offline is pointing at the full res DNxHR HQX files and not the DNxHD36 transcode files on the previous ISIS partition (Y drive). 

I've tried moving the media from the AvidMediafile/MXF location so that brings the media offline, and then tried to relink back to the Y drive forcing it to only link to DNxHD36 files but no joy. I've also tried to relink it from the bin with the transcoded media in it and no joy with that either.

Any light you someone could shine on this for me would be very much appricated.

Media Composer Licence "unavailable"

Hi, one of our perpetual licences is displaying as unavailable in Avid Link despite being active on our My Products page and not needing renewal until December.

I tried entering in the licence manually but I got the "Activation ID failed"error message.

Avid Linking to Op-Atom Issue

Hello,

This was in 2018.13 but I have seen it in multiple versions.  When I mistakenly link to op-atom media all the clips display the link symbol but the media remains offline.

If I delete these links and drop the Op atom mxf files into the correct Avid MediaFiles folder structure to scan they do scan and databases are built but the clips still display the link symbols and the media still appears offline (even after brining in the new .mdb file into the avid)

 

I thought deleting the AMA management folder "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Avid Media Composer\AMA Management" would delete all history of AMA linked media but this does not.  The clips continue to have the linked symbol and are offline even when new databases are built.The only workaround I have found is to take the media to a different computer and for that to build new databases. Is there something that can be deleted to make the computer forget about linking to this media?  Thank you for any advice. Play both ganged monitors together...

In this day and age why can't i gang the source and record together and have them both play back at once in unison? This would make it much easier to get a quick idea of if things are in sync. Whichever monitor is in focus would decide which audio is played.

Blackmagic Video Assist issue

With 2 different Blackmagic Video Assist recorders I get the same issue. I link an SD card and consolidate it to DNxHD 145 @ 1080i. In this case it is a 50 minute continuous clip. I put it in a sequence and play it. With Vid Asst #1 the timeline freezes at 9:59:10 and will not play until I step to TC 10:00:15 at which time the seq plays to the end. It will freeze at the same point every time I try.

With Vid Asst #2 the same thing happens, the seq freezes at TC 9:59:24 and will play once I step to 10:00:29 then plays to the end.

The console reports the same issue in both cases:

"PlayLoopThread::CheckForExceptions: Exception: HagridBase: Err: 0 | -1979514218 | lk_interruptobject.cpp | 1157 | Error Code: kLPKerr_CodecFatalDecodeError Msg:"Card2:Decode:Pipe2DecodeError"

I use recommended SD cards and have tried several. That and 2 different Vid Assts with the same issue leads me to think the fault is with my Avid.

 

Any help is appreciated.


Getting exception ADMADM_NO_ADM_CONFIGURED_FOR_OUTPUT

Hi,

`m trying to setup a new project in the latest avid media composer and when try to play the imported video file. It shows the error message " ADMADM_NO_ADM_CONFIGURED_FOR_OUTPUT ". May I know the reason behind this?

Punch-in Tool does not record audio from USB microphone

I've submitted this case to support but maybe the forum will have a suggestion.

Punch-in Tool does not record audio from USB microphone, neither to bin nor to MXF media folder. When record button in Punch-in Tool is pressed, I can see a "creating" file appear in the "Creating" folder of my media drive path "Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1" but when I click the Stop button in the Punch-in tool, the "creating" file disappears. I see these two lines appear in the console when attempting to record with Punch-in tool for the first time:

Reloading plugin: AudioCodecManager.avx

Reloading plugin: CMAvidMPEG1Layer2AudioCodec.avx

 

Encountered issue on version 2021.5 on High Sierra.   Upgraded to 2021.6, problem persists.

 

Audio levels not appearing in meters in Avid application.

 

Audio levels do appear in System Preferences / Sound / Input tab.

 

Zapped PRAM, problem persists, but iMac screen is now much brighter.

 

 

 

are FFV1 / MKV clips supported?

I read in the forum that Media Composer can read FFV1 codec in MKV container directly.

I created with Shutter Encoder v15.2 some test files but MC fails to link and when importing MC shows "<filename>.mkv is unknown file"

It is a HD FFV1 video with PCM audio in an MKV container

MC Version: 2021.3.55320

 

2020.12 Exception: SYS_ERROR

Had a problem with 2020.6 where I got Exception: SYS_ERROR on Avid start up. Uninstalled and clean installed 2020.12 and I still get the same thing.

I have a class tomorrow and I can'tteach if I can't get Avid up and running. I can open up an existing project by clicking on the .avp.

Anyone have any ideas about how to get round this?

Media Composer 2021.6 issue

Having downloaded 2021.6, I find that I have an issue with my two screen PC set up. (project and bins in the left hand monitor, composer and timeline in the right hand monitor) 

When playing, trimming or any function in the right hand monitor, without warning the left hand monitor/screen automatically becomes activated and any keyboard or screen functions in the right hand monitor/screen become inoperable. Only by clicking within the right hand monitor/screen will the left hand screen be deactivated and the function become operable. For instance. when playing and adding a keyboard 'in' point. This does not always work if the lft hand screen has aactivated. Or, having added an 'in' point via the keyboard before the left hand screen has automatically activated itself, but trying to enter an 'out' point on the keyboard or screen, this does not work if the left hand monitor/screen for some reason has automatically activated. Trimming becomes frustrating having to constantly deacctivate the left hand monitor by clicking in the right hand screen. 

I have rebuilt all my settings, changed my tracker ball to a mouse, tried a USA keyboard rather than my UK keyboard but the fault sttill exists. I have not tried editing in just one monitor as this is not my way of working.

I use Windows 10 as my computer platform which, I believe, has the latest update.

I have been editing on Media Composer since 1992 so I am well versed with bugs and problems, but I have not met this problem before
