BRINGING IN MATERIAL TO THE EDIT

Hi,  I am facing two challenges in bringing in material into an edit on Media Composer 7 on a mac book pro (OS X Mavericks)

1- I have an SONY HVR Z1U  (Known as a Z1)  and have no problem digitising from it as I usually shoot in HD on DVCAM.

However I have been given some older mini DV tapes shot sometime ago - possibly on a different DV format (Non HD ) and when I try and digitise them (even when I set the camera to AUTO format or DV format) it says the format is not suported and I cannot see anything of the footage in the edit.  I CAN see it on the camera LCD screen but it does not show in the edit window.

Any ideas how I can bring this footage in and get the edit to recognise it - either via camera settings or edit settings?

2- I am working on a project on a harddrive (lets call it harddrive 1)

I would like to bring in a few tapes I have already digitised for another project which is on another hard drive (Hardrive 2)

I would like to copy all the media associated with for those tapes to the harddrive no 1 that I am working on with the project as I will need to have all the media for the current project on that one drive.

What is the easiest way to do this? CAn you take me through the steps?

I edit alot as a director-camera operator but I am not a trained proffesional editor so please write in laymans terms otherwise I just have to ask loads more questions because I don't understand the language!

I'd be hugely grateful for any help as I am on quite a deadline ! Thank you, Sara
