Hi everyone,
I'm working with a Mid 2010 Mac Pro 5,1 running Mac OS X 10.8.5. It's a 2 x 2.66 6-Core machine (12 cores total), and I would like to update the OS X to 10.11.5 El Capitan so I can upgrade my Avid MC from 6.5.4 to 8.6.x.
This machine does appear to be on the list of Apple qualified systems for MC 8.6.x as seen here:

But there is a note that "This model on Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite) has known performance issues with playback, render, and transcode of higher resolution material."
The project I am making the migration for is going to be at 2K, 2048 x 1080, and working with DNXHR SQ offline versions of that media. Given how close that is to 1920 x 1080, does anyone know if that performance warning is likely for 4K and above only? Would updating to OS X 10.9.5 be a smarter move for any reason? Just not sure if the problems are isolated to the named OS X 10.10 for some reason and 10.9.5 or 10.11.5 are both better.
Thanks very much in advance for any help anyone could provide.
Best,
Bret
