I recently replaced the boot drive in one of our Mac-bsed systems with a Samsung SSD EVO 850. These drives are recommended by many, so I bought one.
Disk Utility was unable to either partiton or format the drive. The error stated the drive "cannot be opened". Googling various forums, this is a widely known issue. These is zero information on Samsung's website addressing this.
The "work around" is to mount the drive externally, and perform the partition and format from there. This worked. Meanwhile, there are way too many alternatives to have to deal with this. Back to OWC next time! They also have really cool SSD Drive Sleds, should you require one.
BTW, the EVO's work wonderfully in PC-based systems. We just sdded one to each of our Cinedeck ZX systems.
