AVID 8.6.3
I wanted to make a list of definite rules for AVID's trim behaviour that would correctly predict the outcome of any Trim. This is something I did for FCP many years ago. There is some very hard to explain behaviour, as I demonstrated in this video:(https://streamable.com/bszj)
Here's my attempt to explain what is happening here.
When adding frames to the tail of a clip:
All clips that start on or after the same frame as the edit point will move to the right, provided the edit point belongs to a clip that has another clip directly to the right of it. If it doesn't and there's even a frame of space, any clips of the same type (video or audio being the two types) that do not themselves have a clip directly to the right of them and start on the same frame as the edit point will not move. Clips of a different type will move regardless.
WOW. I'd love to hear someone's take on AVID's rationale for making trim work this way.
Also, I know that AVID has introduced a new feature called 'sync rollers for sync locked tracks', and selecting this actually changes the above behaviour to consistenly move everything after the edit point. Unfortunately the feature is a bit buggy and slows a lot of stuff down.
