I just downloaded the new version of Media Composer (with Symphony option) and also the RED plugin, which I guess is pretty new and only works with MC 8.6+.
I just got dailies delivered which are RED 5K 2:1, and while the files are copying I thought I'd look up the workflow for the plugin.
Either I'm retarded or the workflow is not published anywhere. In the past I've used the REDCINE-X program to transcode the files to Prores 422, then used AMA to link.
Has anybody used the RED plugin? How does it work, and is it aware of the RED folder structure?
And most of all, can the RED files be played natively, or do they have to be transcoded. According to the plugin page: "you can shoot on any RED camera and then instantly access footage right from the RED-FLASH card or RED-DRIVE, enabling you to get right to work, with access to the full metadata and color management data. Choose between preserving RGB color space or downconverting to YUV color. Images are scaled to HD image size." That sounds to me like you don't need to transcode....??
