This has me baffled and there seems like there has to be a better way than what I've been doing. I've done This a million times before so I don't know what's going on this time.
Okay, so I was handed a feature to online. I DPed it as well but didn't do DIT or do the offline edit. We shot on RED and it was transcoded and the files were then synced to .sync grouping. They brought me in to help online and color grade so I AMA-ed the 2,500 clips into their individual days then ALT-dragged them into an "All" bin for easier relinking. I have all of those clips highlighted their bin. (Also; I'm using a fresh project, none of the transcoded media, just the empty clips from the project and the sequence with is also offline.)
I go to the bin with the sequence, right-click and relink... I select the "Selected Items in ALL Open Bins" method. It doesn't link to a single clip. I tried various method from the pulldowns. The transcoded clips all have "tape names" associated with them, however, the R3D AMA clips have no "tape names" just "file name" under that heading. So obviously when Avid's looking to link up a 'tape name' with the TC, it's coming up empty on the AMA size. I could do "file name" on the transcoded source clip side... but that's empty. Basically, it's lacking one or the other (file name or tape name).
Last two days, I've been copying and pasting the "tape name" onto the clip name (since it was renamed to, say, 14/1, 14/2, etc.). I relinked to the 'open bin' using just the "Name" and that got most of the clips online. But the odd thing is that, when I 'matchback' from the sequence, it points to the empty clip that was transcoded... not that AMA-ed clip that the sequence is linking to and showing. It's really odd that it's showing video in the sequence but wants to matchback to the transcoded clip, when the sequence is sourcing the AMA footage. Then, some other clips still aren't coming online and I'm trying to avoid having to cleanprint this thing.
Basically, I'm wondering if there's a way to get the AMA files to link to the transcoded files? Ideally, is there a way to force-assign a "file name" the transcoded clips? That should solve everything. Or, is there a way a tape name that matches the file name... instead of individually 'modifying' each AMA'ed clip?
This looks grim though :/
