Using Source Browser to Link to media on a network share

Hi Team,

I'm having issues adapting our workflow to this new Source Browser in Avid 8.6, and I'm hoping I'm missing something really obvious.

We usually create a share on our Evo server > Create a Shortcut > Store the shortcut in a folder called "EVO" on our C:\ e.g.

"C:\EVO\aa_masters_01 (192.168.199.242) - Shortcut"

> In Avid 8.4.5 we would select "Link to Media..." > Navigate to C:\EVO > Click on the shortcut > That would take us to the server, where we can then navigate to the files we want to link to.

In Avid 8.6 however, I can navigate to C:\EVO, but then the shotcuts are just white icons (they look like a piece of paper with the top right corner folded over). Under the 'Type' column these files are listed as 'Unknown' and I can't use the Shortcuts to navigate to my server.

I tried using the address bar and typing the following options:-

- 192.168.199.242\aa_masters_01

- \\192.168.199.242\aa_masters_01

- 192.168.199.242

- \\192.168.199.242

But these all resulted in the same error message; "Please check the path. The current entry is invalid."

The solution would be to map the drive using a letter, making it as easy as going to Z:\ instead of "\\192.168.199.242\aa_masters_01" but this is an awkward workflow for us as we have so many network drives. We quickly run out of letters to use.

Does anyone know how to navigate to a network drive in Avid 8.6 Source Browser without having to map the share to a drive letter?

Thanks,

Sian
