Hi guys,
I would like to ask if anybody has any experience with upgrading a 'large' number of HP MC workstations to Windows 10? Why you would ask?
Well, yesterday at one of our customers, who already owns 4 HP Z420/Z400 MC 8.3.1 systems, we installed a Nexis pro with 2 extra HP z440 clients. The customer requested Windows 10 + 8.5.2 for the new clients and asked if we could also update the existing systems. The new clients perform really good during the first tests, definitly better then Windows 7, so his request makes sense.
But the upgrade path is a bit time consuming as the Windows 10 free upgraded systems can't be cloned between identical workstations like it is possible with OEM Windows licenses. Actually my first question is if anybody knows if the HP Windows 10 OEM license HP offers with their workstation are actually clonable without breaking windows activation.
My second question is if anybody has tried the windows 10 upgrade with MC and plugins like izotope, genarts, sorenson, newblue installed on a system or if the upgrade breaks the activation, which I would expect.
As far as I can see, the 'correct' path is to de-activate all software (if device ID's change after OS change). re-image the workstations with their original OS, Windows 7 or 8.1, upgrade to windows 10 en re-install all software and activate with existing activation files or download new ones if device ID's are different. But that will take a few hours for each machine.
Thanks in advance for sharing any experience.
