fast way to import high res footages ?

hi iam using avid for 2 years. these days i edited footages that are captured in Dslrs  BUT NOW for the first time iam going to edit RED CAM footages.These days i used to import and AMA link the  footages since the footages are lesser size it dint take me a long time to import.but the red files are HUGE.

MY QUESTION IS

IS THERE ANY ALTERNATE WAY TO IMPORT FOOTAGES IN AVID (RATER THAN IMPORT & AMA LINK)?

AND WHAT METHORD IS THE CINEMA EDITORS USING TO IMPORT THE FOOTAGES QUICKLY(IN AVID)?
